Art collections in Scotland to benefit from funding announcement
Date Posted: 14/07/11
Museums Galleries Scotland has announced that 16 of the most important collections in the country will benefit from a new round of funding this year.
In total, just under £650,000 will be handed out, with those on short breaks able to enjoy new display spaces and innovative designs.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh will be given £36,970, while the University of Edinburgh will get £40,000 to redevelop St Cecilia's Hall.
Joanne Orr, chief executive officer of Museums Galleries Scotland, said: "This funding invested into our Recognised Collections ensures they are cared for and promoted to wider audiences. For a small museum this represents a major cash injection, and helps put them on a firm footing for the future. For a large museum it is a chance to do something they simply didn’t have the resources to before."
She went on to say that modernising buildings can help to breathe new life into a display, while web-based projects will also be touched on.
Currently, the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh is preparing to present its new galleries, which will open on Friday July 29th.
