A glittering December in Manchester

All the stars are coming to Manchester for the festive season, with a plethora of special performances taking place on the city's popular theatre scene. This very weekend - the last for November - sees Spanish superstar Enrique Iglesias bring his Sex and Love tour to the north of England, while Jason Donovan and Westlife's Bryan McFadden put on a splendid performance in War of the Worlds on Sunday.

If all that is a bit soon for you though, don't lament - December is looking positively glittering for those in Manchester. Be sure to check out one or more of the performances happening over this most festive of seasons.

Alfie Boe

The nation's favourite tenor returns to Manchester next week (December 6th) for a spectacular show that showcases hits from his to-be-released album Trust. So if you want to get a taste of what to expect from his next effort, this is the show to come along to. Fans can also expect plenty of old favourites, including numbers from the musical Les Miserables.

The Britain's Got Talent dancers return to the Phones 4u Arena with a new and improved version of their highly successful show Limitless - The Reboot. First grabbing attention on the 2009 incarnation of the programme, the group of performers impressed the British public as well as Simon Cowell and went on to beat Susan Boyle to that coveted spot on the Royal Variety Show. They will be in Manchester on December 10th.

Ennio Morricone

Legendary composer Ennio Morricone takes up his conductors baton for this performance of his My Life In Music world tour. With a career that spans over 50 years, he certainly has a lot to talk about. With the help of an 160-member symphony orchestra, we can revisit some of his most famous works. He'll be in Manchester on December 14th and 15th, first at the LG Arena and then at Manchester Arena.

The nutty boys behind so many fabulous songs have been locked in the studio since their last round of live shows in September, so you can bet they'll be more bizarre than ever. Prepare for a surreal evening featuring favourites such as Baggy Trousers and House of Fun, as well as new material, at the Manchester Arena on December 19th.

Russell Howard

The cheeky comedian has extended his highly popular Wonderbox UK tour due to phenomenal demand and will perform in Manchester on December 20th for what is sure to be a hilarious evening of witty observational comedy. Howard has been a regular on television panel shows, and his own show Russell Howard's Good News on BBC3 has catapulted him to fame. The perfect Christmas treat for a comedy enthusiast.

Andre Rieu

Legendary violinist Andre Rieu treats us to an absolute Christmas cracker of a show, with plenty of the Dutch maestro's festive hits promised alongside the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Anyone who loves his back catalogue - which includes reworkings of The Blue Danube, Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet and You'll Never Walk Alone - is sure to adore this show, taking place on December 21st at the Phones 4u Arena.
