12 Million People ‘Have Seen The Lion King in London’

Disney Theatrical Productions has revealed that 12 million people have now seen its iconic stage show The Lion King at London’s Lyceum Theatre.

The musical, which is based on the Disney movie of the same name, has been wowing audiences all over the world for more than a decade, with an estimated 70 million people around the globe having been to see the musical for themselves.

And now, with the production approaching its 15th anniversary in London, it has reached the historic milestone of 12 million views in the British capital alone.

The music by Elton John and Tim Rice is known the world over, with songs such as Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Circle of Life among the most famous from the movie and musical. South African composer Lebo M, who created the African chants for the film, was also heavily involved in devising the score for the stage version.

It is the fantastic score, combined with breathtaking costumes and energetic performances on the stage that has made it such a favourite among people booking theatre breaks in London for more than a decade.

In fact, more than 230 different masks and puppets are used in the musical to bring the vibrant and exciting creatures of Africa to life on stage, with 25 species represented throughout the course of the show.

Last week, it was announced that the production would extend its booking at the Lyceum Theatre to Sunday March 29th 2015.

That gives you plenty of time to book tickets for the production and see the story of Simba - the young lion cub who runs away after his father is killed - and his transition from childhood to adulthood play out in the most captivating and exciting way.

All of your favourite characters from the movie are represented, with Nala, Zazu, Timon and Pumba playing their parts in Simba’s story, with the actors and actresses doing justice not only to the characters, but also the animals’ different movements.
