London Outer Holiday Reviews

Greenwich Skyline, London Outer

With all of the exciting attractions, fabulous shopping and incomparable West End Theatre the capital has to offer, choosing one of our hotels on the outskirts of London means you'll have easy access to a wealth of exciting short break activities. Ideal for when you don't want to stay right in the thick of it - a quieter break somewhat removed from London's infamous hustle and bustle - the London outskirts are also well worth the trip in their own right.

When you do fancy a trip into the city, London's excellent transport links will take your right into the centre. Our hotels on the outskirts of London are made easy to get to on major roads like the M25, fantastic rail links across the country and, of course, London's many airports.

  • Our hotels North of London are ideal for a visit to the incredibly popular Harry Potter Studio Tours - an absolute must for all fans of the boy wizard.
  • The home of football, Wembley Stadium is a must-see when you're staying in our North-West London hotels, and the utterly brilliant concerts and events at Wembley Arena are well worth a look too.
  • South-East London hotels are perfectly situated to see gorgeous Greenwich - the breath-taking buildings of the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum have to be seen, and London?s greatest concert venue The O2 Arena is also here.
  • Don't miss our Richmond and Wimbledon hotels either, not least for the pretty and affluent surrounds of this part of London, but also for the world-famous Wimbledon Championships during the summertime too.

The perfect choice for a quieter break in the capital, check out our range of London Outer hotels in the list below.

Watford trip

Stay Date: 19/04/19, a customer aged 25-44 from Gb who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

The hotel was fine, sharing a room with a 4 yr old however is not easy - next time we need 2 separate bedrooms - you should think about offering an adjoining room for families. The breakfast was See More  Read more information ok, basic but ok. The one problem we did have was the permanent building work going on right next to the hotel, ALL bank holiday weekend, it was noisy and incredibly dusty. Harry Potter Tour and hotel

Stay Date: 11/05/18, a customer aged 18-24 from Chesterfield who stayed at 4* Holiday Inn London Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

The Harry Potter tour was absolutely amazing, I would 100% recommend and go again. However the hotel was not up to the standard I imagined. I booked a Queen size bed in which they failed to deliver, See More  Read more information we slept on a standard double. I requested we ordered room service twice, this was speedy and good quality however very overpriced. An upper floor room and was only placed on the first floor, whichis quite a poor attempt at a upper floor room. The staff were lovely however the same cannot be said for the guests, I had trouble sleeping as the room next door and many rooms along our corridor werereally lively and loud until early hours of the morning! Quite disappointed with the hotel, however the tour was incredible.   Collapse  Hide

Fantastic Day at Harry Potter

Stay Date: 15/02/18, a customer aged 25-44 from Carrigtwohill who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

Overall a fantastic 2 days in London - we visited mainly to go to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour. It was everything we expected and more...the children were in awe...as were the See More  Read more information adults...loved every minute of the 5 hours we spent exploring there. We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Watford which was perfect for our trip - it's a 2 minute walk from Watford Junction where you can geta Harry Potter bus directly to the Warner Bros studio every 10 minutes. Also there's a train to bring you directly to Euston station from where you can access anywhere in London. The hotel, whilebasic, was clean and had everything we needed and a very relaxed environment! A good few food places around for pub grub or quick lunches. We got a minibus directly from Stansted airport to the hoteland return which was a lifesaver when travelling with kids on a tight schedule...and spent day 2 exploring London on the trains and tubes with a 1 day family card for 32 pounds! An amazing trip withfabulous memories made.   Collapse  Hide

Harry Potter. Pure magic!

Stay Date: 26/01/18, a customer aged 45-64 from United Kingdom who stayed at 4* Holiday Inn London Elstree M25 J23 in Elstree wrote this review.

After booking our tickets and accommodation through Super Break it was just a matter of sitting back and waiting for our tour date to arrive. All the relevant tickets and information was sent via See More  Read more information email which we printed off and took with us. On arrival to the Harry Potter Tour we collected our tickets and entered. We started our tour at 3.30pm and left around 7.30pm and all I can say is wow! There is so much to see and do it's a must for any true Potter fan. The only downside in my opinion is the food is very expensive so I advise you take your own but try the Butterbeer it's worth it. Thegift shop is very pricey as well but you can make your own minds up on that one. We stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn in Borehamwood the staff were very nice and helpful. We stayed in a family roomthat consisted of a a good sized double bed and a single bed, there was tea and coffee making facilities and plenty of other creature comforts. Anything else was available via room service. We ate outin Nandos which is about 2 miles away in Borehamwood but there are plenty of other places to eat in the same area. All in all we were very happy with our visit and accommodation. Thank you SuperBreak for making this a magical break.   Collapse  Hide

Fantastic break

Stay Date: 05/11/17, a customer aged 45-64 from United Kingdom who stayed at 4* Holiday Inn London Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

The Holiday Inn at Watford Junction is in an excellent location for both visiting the Warner Brothers Studios at Leavesden and London, as it is almost next door to Watford Junction Station, from See More  Read more information where used run regularly to the studios. The hotel itself is clean and well decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom and shower was great. We ate one night in the hotel, using the twocourse meal and a drink offer and the food was really good. We didn’t have breakfast, but did grab a bagel from the take away cafe counter one morning. I would definitely stay there again. TheStudios were excellent and although 3.5 hrs seems to be the suggested length of time to visit, we managed 6 hours without any problem and with only a 20 min food stop. It is a wonderful experience andif you read every bit of information available, watch all the videos and look at all the props and other items on view, it’s not hard to spend 6 hours, but you also come away with much more knowledgeof how the magic happens. A fabulous day out.   Collapse  Hide

Great trip To Warner Bros Studio

We had a quick check in and we See More  Read more information were told all about the facilities and times of dining etc. We had two rooms booked one double and one twin and they were both on the same floor. They can also provide other items if you have forgotten anything. Weunpacked and then went down to the open lobby where you can get drinks and food. We had some pizza, garlic bread and fries to share and they were delicious. The staff were all very attentive especiallyBetty who was really lovely. The next morning we had breakfast included and it was a buffet breakfast so you could help yourself to anything. The cooked breakfast was the best we ever had anywhere.Everything cooked perfectly. There was plenty of choice hot and cold. I liked the smoothie it was delicious. It set us up for the day ahead. The meals in the evening were also delicious. Fantastic break at Harry Potter Studio Tour

Stay Date: 16/09/17, a customer aged 25-44 from Gb who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

After an amazing day at Harry Potter Studio Tour, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Watford. The hotel was lovely, the room we stayed in appeared to be newly refurbished, it was extremely clean & See More  Read more information modern, the bathroom was lovely with a fab shower. All the facilities in the room were excellent. The complimentary breakfast was tasty, perfect for our little ones. As the lobby & dining area arecurrently being refurbished there wasn't much room available & we had to wait for a table which wasn't a problem for us but I imagine some people wouldn't be happy about it. The hotel parking is limited& parking is available in the pub next door, it does feel a little isolated & not the nicest of places to be, especially at night but we had no problems. I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn before butI was very pleasantly surprised, I would definitely stay here again.   Collapse  Hide

Average Hotel - Dining room did not have enough staff

Stay Date: 26/08/17, a customer aged 45-64 from Tyldesley who stayed at 4* De Vere Selsdon Estate in Sanderstead (Nr South Croydon) wrote this review.

There were weddings at the hotel both days so it was quite busy. The first night the dining room was full - not even 1 table for 2 at any time. A warning when we checked in would have been useful. See More  Read more information The card given us with our room card clearly stated that breakfast at weekends was until 11 am. We arrived at 1015 to be told that breakfast ended at 10 am. Dining room staff seemed stupefied aboutwhat the card said and several asked to examine it. We were allowed to eat although felt under pressure to finish the meal quickly. Some food on the hot buffet was cold. On the second morning we madesure to arrive at breakfast well before 10 am. The dining room was again full mainly with wedding guests. Staff seemed to be struggling with the number of guests. Our table had not been properly laid -missing several items. Some guests occupied a table near ours that had not been cleared from the previous guests. All the food on the hot buffet was lukewarm at best. My pot of tea was cold eventhough I poured it almost immediately after it was delivered. Once I caught the eye of a waiter it was replaced with a full apology. There were lots of cobwebs on the windows in the dining room. Itlooked as if they had been there some time. It begs the question "How clean are the food preparation areas?" The view from the terrace was stunning. A shame that there was no waiter working theterrace offering drinks on the Sunday morning which was very warm, sunny and busy. Most carpets in the public areas were worn, as was the one in our bedroom. The room was too warm and opening thewindows seemed risky as it was a lower ground floor room looking out over an internal courtyard. The bathroom seemed to have underfloor heating that could not be controlled. This added to the warmth in theroom. The external aspects of the hotel and the view were very attractive but internally it was tired. Could be a great hotel.   Collapse  Hide

A last minute salvation at Edgeware Road

Stay Date: 10/05/17, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Maitrise Hotel Edgware Road in Edgware wrote this review.

I booked really late as I needed somewhere to stay after a long day of business meetings. I can't fault the ease of SuperBreak's booking system or the price. The staff at the hotel were fantastic See More  Read more information too. The room was on the lower floor and to be honest it was a little damp and the sheets smelt slightly musty. The breakfast the next day was a little quirky, it's the only time I've ever had beans ina little glass cup and an egg on a separate small plate to my bacon and sausage BUT the staff were so helpful and polite it made up for any little niggle. In all it was a very pleasant stay and set meup for a long day of meetings in a positive frame of mind. An experience in Watford

Stay Date: 22/12/16, a customer aged 25-44 from Warrington who stayed at 4* Mercure London Watford in Watford wrote this review.

Harry Potter Experience

Stay Date: 02/07/16, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Express, wouldn't recommend it. Car park spaces tight & covered in rubbish & broken glass. Had to pay to park there. Staff in hotel not that helpful, asked for extra camp bed/mattress but there wasn't any. Family room was small, no bath only shower & no toiletries. Dissapointed

Stay Date: 18/06/16, a customer aged 25-44 from Tyne and Wear who stayed at 4* Mercure London Watford in Watford wrote this review.

Magical visit

Stay Date: 07/05/16, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 4* Mercure London Watford in Watford wrote this review.

We had a fantastic day at Harry Potter Warner Brothers! There is so much to see and do and is suitable for so many ages. We really enjoyed the broomstick ride with the green screens and found it to See More  Read more information be very well organised with the queues going down very quickly. All staff we spoke with were extremely helpful and polite. I could definitely see us going again! The hotel we stayed in was good. The exterior did concern us a little on pulling into the car park but inside the staff were very helpful and it was clean and modernised. The rooms were put in were clean and comfortable. After check inwe went for a 10 minute walk down the road to the Toby Carvery where we had a really nice carvery with monster Yorkshire puddings, the biggest I have ever seen! We had a lovely breakfast in themorning and the staff were very welcoming. We used the leisure facilities before we left and found it clean and all in working order. The only issue we had was the lockers as they were combination locksthat were very confusing. This lead to us having to use a master key as our clothes were locked in the locker! I would recommend both the attraction and the hotel.   Collapse  Hide

Awesome Memory Making Weekend!

Stay Date: 13/05/16, a customer aged 25-44 from Southampton who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

Arriving into the train station we could see the hotel so headed to check-in. We were there 3 hrs before check-in time but the room was ready and the lovely receptionist waived the early check-in See More  Read more information fee! We were hungry so enquired about food availability and the receptionist explained there was room-service available but there was also a nice parade of shops just across the road offering greatchoice for lunch. This was incredibly helpful! We got lunch and headed the 100m back to the train station to get the shuttle bus to the studios. This was fairly busy but the driver was very diligent inknowing who had queued the longest as there were some people who had just arrived and tried to "merge" into the queue. The bus ride was only 15 mins and the queue at the attraction was short. Entry waseasy enough and the "tour" consisted of 8 screens in a darkened room talking to you, then a 10 min film of the three main characters telling you about the "tour" and then a "guide" standing in theGreat Hall telling you about "HIS" favourite bits of the film. You are then told to go through to the "Museum" and sets of then films as quickly as you can as the next group are coming through. You arethen left to your own devices. There is a broom riding experience but for £14 per photo it is unbelievably expensive! You then move onto the Hogwarts express that is impressive and gleaming! There is ashop there but again incredibly expensive - £26.95 for a plastic iPhone 6 phone case! Next is the cafe, again over priced for no reason - £2.50 for a bottle of Fanta and if you want to try "ButterBeer" you'll need to take out a Wonga loan! For a small plastic 150ml cup it is a whopping £3.95! The most expensive Irn Bru ever! (And I do not like Irn Bru). Next is the Knight Bus and Privet Driveand into the prosthetic's hall - the best bit in my opinion. The model of Hogwarts is truly fantastic. Leading into the main shop which you'll need to re-mortgage your house for any chance to buy anykind of souvenir! And once you've been fleeced of all your life savings that's it - all over. A nice comfortable bus journey back to the train station and a great meal in The Flag public house and abrilliant night's sleep in the hotel coupled with a good breakfast (the sausages were truly awful) and a lovely greeting from the hotel staff.   Collapse  Hide

Great overnight stay at Watford

Stay Date: 31/12/15, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

The hotel is ideally situated 10 minutes drive from the Harry Potter Studio Tour. The staff were helpful and the rooms (we had two for our family of seven) were clean and comfortable. Our son's room See More  Read more information was directly next door which was great. The rooms are spacious and have everything you expect from an express hotel. My only negative would be that we were expecting a double and two twin beds butthe room had a sofa bed and with two teenage boys they weren't that keen on sharing. The free Wi-Fi also posed a slight problem as it appeared to only be available on one device per room. These twosmall negatives did not take away from our comfortable one night stay. We were extremely hungry after our visit to Harry Potter studios and decided to try the hotel's bar menu, the service was good, prices reasonable and food tasted good overall too, with a variety including kids meals, although the macaroni cheese child's meal which my daughter usually likes apparently wasn't very appetising, thesharing platter was probably the best value for money option. Would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn Express at Watford Junction for ease of access into London too as it is so close to WatfordStation, one train and tube and we arrived into central London for the NYE fireworks. I should mention parking was an extra £5 to park directly behind the hotel which is reasonable. As a family we had afantastic stay and would definitely use the hotel again for its location, cleanliness and value for money booking via SuperBreak.   Collapse  Hide

Stay Date: 29/10/15, a customer aged 25-44 from Coventry who stayed at 4* Holiday Inn London Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

U2 concert at the O2

Stay Date: 26/10/15, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Novotel London Wembley in Wembley wrote this review.

Parking can be a nightmare due to location, development and the road works going on around the hotel. However once inside all that stress melts away. The hotel's communal areas were clean, the staff See More  Read more information friendly and our room was lovely, clean and smelt fresh. We asked for our tea and milk to be topped up which was no problem. The room had a hair dryer and overall was a good size. If like us your gig was at theO2, Wembley Park train station is easy reach of the hotel, just a 5 minute walk. The O2 is a one train, train ride journey about 40 mins, which delivers you straight to the O2. We stayed at the Watford Holiday Inn Express as part of a package to visit the Warner Brother studios. Mercure hotel Watford

Stay Date: 10/04/15, a customer aged 45-64 from Kilmarnock who stayed at 4* Mercure London Watford in Watford wrote this review.

Strange room, with a clear bathroom door. Very unsettling. I was told that there was no booking for 2 adults and 2 kids and that they don't have a room for this. The food was poor, cold and See More  Read more information unpleasant. We booked buffet, but there was only 3 mains to select from - all cold such as a bad vegetable lasagne with dried vegetables and no salad. The juice was overpriced for the kids and there was amistake made with the cost of the buffet meal - the reception staff were dismissive of my complaint and argued every point I made. Very insulting. The gym lockers were broken and we had to make otherarrangements for valuables whilst we were there. The phones in the room didn't work and the shower was smelly and dirty - I reported this to housekeeping to no avail. A pretty disappointingexperience.   Collapse  Hide

Location

Stay Date: 07/07/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Tewkesbury who stayed at 4* De Vere Selsdon Estate (2 Night BB Offer) in Sanderstead (Nr South Croydon) wrote this review.

Great hotel but nightmare getting out onto the main road as visibility is poor. Needs sign more visible on main road so drivers know there is an exit/entrance. Breakfast was the downside, See More  Read more information although loads of choice the hot breakfast was only lukewarm each day and not very well presented. I would go again as the rooms were lovely and the atmosphere was good.   Collapse  Hide

A great stay in Watford

Stay Date: 02/07/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London-Watford Junction in Watford wrote this review.

Chose the hotel due to the location and it's four star rating. Our short stay was due to visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour, the location of the hotel was fantastic as it was a short walk from See More  Read more information the train station and a 10 minute bus journey to the studios. The hotel interior and exterior was clean and welcoming, as where the very friendly staff who made sure our stay was enjoyable. The eveningfood was very nice, although, not much choice and alcohol was very pricey. Breakfast was great as there was a lot of choice and self service made the process quicker. The room was excellent, veryspacious and clean, loved the en suite design and the shower was fab! Overall, our stay was very good and we would choose this hotel again.   Collapse  Hide

One to do

Stay Date: 21/06/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Wrexham who stayed at 4* Mercure London Watford in Watford wrote this review.

We used super breaks to book a package for the HP studios tour . We had a fabulous trip. Easy to research and book... However did not realise there was a 10 min taxi journey between the train See More  Read more information station and our hotel! There was a fire drill in the evening which we were evacuated immediately from. The situation was not satisfactorily handled from there on though! Upon re entering we were told allwas well... However we could smell melting burning plastic and were told the fire brigade had been called. Very scary situation being in a building smelling badly if burning and told a fire engine wason its way. When I called for clarification the gentleman on reception could just not understand my questions and I could not understand him. Totally unsafe unsatisfactory and un professional . Webooked our train tickets with my family friends cards ... Although the web site of yours said that they had saved you money I was able to get it 40 pounds cheaper . My f and f card is only 25 pounds so Iwould still have got it considerably cheaper had I used for first time ! So shop carefully . The hotel in general was great with a good pool. Super breaks were easy to use. Would use again andrecommend.   Collapse  Hide
