Lake District Holiday Reviews

Pleasure boat, Ullswater

By booking hotels in the Lake District you open up the opportunity to discover an area of outstanding beauty in the Lake District, home to inspirational countryside, breath-taking mountains, spectacular lakes, traditional market towns and numerous heritage sites.

The UK's largest national park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with stunning 350 fells and around 80 lakes to enjoy. You can enjoy a refreshing walk along the largest of them at Lake Windermere or climb England's highest mountain Skafell Pike. With all this fantastic outdoor space it can often be tempting to find a campsite. However, for those of us not brave enough to face the elements, there are plenty of top quality hotels in the Lake District.

For a lot of people the Lake District can seem like a pretty intimating place, especially if you do not have access to a larger vehicle. However, there are plenty of ways to get around. We have put together a guide of things to see, do and how to do them here in our Lake District Travel Guide. Why not take a look and let it help you plan your break.

Most, but not all, of our selection of Lake District hotels lie in the towns and villages in the national park. Why not visit one of the towns in the Lake District like Kendal, Keswick, Grasmere or travel a little further and visit the city of Carlisle, the largest in Cumbria. All of these locations offer superb hotels, shopping and restaurants but some of the best hotels and restaurants in the country reside in the Lake District countryside itself.

Here at SuperBreak, we offer a selection of hotels in the Lake District that should suit everyone! Whether you are looking for a base in the town to explore the area or you want a more secluded spot out in the countryside, we have something for you.Explore more UK weekend breaks.

Lake District Break

Stay Date: 03/03/14, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 4* Beech Hill Hotel & Spa in Windermere wrote this review.

Beech Hill hotel is excellent and good value for money. It is much cheaper than some of the B&B's in Bowness itself. The hotel is a couple of mile out of Bowness so a car is needed. All the staff See More  Read more information are very helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It is a quiet hotel - no loud music etc. Was given a free upgrade - a lovely room with a terrace outside. Weather was very good - sat onthe terrace having a coffee in the afternoons. Pool is superb. Only had breakfast which was very good. Have stayed many times at the hotel and will continue to do so when in the Lake District. Manyinteresting things to do and see in the Lake District, though as it was early March not everything was open. Tourist information by Lake Windermere excellent.   Collapse  Hide

Would highly recommend the Wild Boar Inn, our first visit Feb 2014 was very memorable and we are already planning a return visit. Whilst staying there it was evident that other guests had indeed See More  Read more information returned many times!! Very comfortable hotel & the bedroom was warm and nicely decorated. The bar & restaurant had a great atmosphere on both Saturday & Sunday evening with lovely warm open fires blazingwhich were much appreciated as the weather was cold and wet at the end of February! The staff were all very helpful, polite & friendly. Great walks locally in the adjacent woods, wellies provided forfree!! Cant wait to return. Thank you and hope to visit again soon, Edward & Sarah   Collapse  Hide

The Hotel is really comfortable, with very friendly staff, the breakfast selection was excellent and the food served in the bar was very good value and delicious. The leisure facilities are great See More  Read more information too, which provided perfect relaxation. The only comment I have to make, there is no changing cubicles, I had to use a combined disabled toilet with a small bench to change. But it did not spoil mystay.   Collapse  Hide

Nice Relaxing Break

Stay Date: 28/12/13, a customer aged 45-64 from Warrington who stayed at 4* Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa in Bowness-on-Windermere wrote this review.

Lovely view of the lake. Arrived early however concierge took care of our luggage and parked the car also luggage took up to our room when it was ready. First morning breakfast was very good with a See More  Read more information table by the window with a view of the lake which was lovely. The second day I was disappointed that we had to queue outside the breakfast room for about 10 mins to be seated when lots of tables wereavailable, this service for a 4 star hotel is not acceptable. It would have made more sense to get everyone seated and then come and take our orders. There appeared to be few staff and a lot dashingaround but not really doing an awful lot. When we left the dining room there was still a small queue waiting however the dining room was not full. This was reported at check out and the receptionmanager did apologise for this. On a positive note the staff were all courteous the room was lovely beds comfortable and the spa facilities very nice.   Collapse  Hide
