Westminster Hotel - Opera
(Paris) 4 4 Star:
Per Person Per Night
Even in Paris, some hotels seem more Parisian than others. The Hotel Westminster, despite its regal English name, is such a place. Intimate, close and convivial, from the Haussmannian facade to the flowered, serene patio, the property exudes a joie de vivre. Located amongst the prestigious addresses of the high fashion and jewellery district, the four-star Hotel Westminster is a stone’s throw from the Place Vendome, the Opera and the Tuileries gardens. For more than 200 years, the hotel on calm and quiet La Rue de la Paix has welcomed everyone from royalty – like the Duke of Westminster, from whom it takes its name – to those wanting to discover the art of living.
Drawing from classical periods of French history, from Louis XV and Louis XVI to Napoleon III and Regency, the Hotel Westminster is as timeless as it is distinctive and sophisticated. Each of the 80 air-conditioned guest rooms and 22 suites ranging from Superior to the Vendome Apartments is decorated to perfection with accoutrements like brilliant crystal, elegant dressing tables, exquisite Toile de Jouy wall hangings and marble mantelpiece fireplaces. The result is comfortable, fashionable and historical.
A million words could never paint an accurate portrait of Paris. A true daydream of a city, it lives and breathes in both quiet romantic moments and in bold displays of the world’s finest art, food and sightseeing. As for Hotel Westminster, the most prestigious neighbourhood in all of Paris is directly outside the door. Steps away, legendary shops line the Place Vendome and Rue de la Paix, including Cartier, Mellerio dits Meller, Van Cleef & Arpels among others.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and have to say the hotel staff has gone out of their way to make my visit special. It is an elegant establishment with a fine restaurant “Celadon” right on the Rue de la Paix near the Opera. As I was staying for some time, I started out in a small room 117, which had a problem with noisy plumbing, so they graciously moved me to a larger room 103. This made a big difference in my stay as the room was quiet (inside courtyard side) and larger. The hotel is undergoing some renovation of rooms in stages so they were aware of some of the noise issues. It was nice of them to take good care of me. Room 103 has a king bed, comfortable, a TV with lots of choices of channels and movies, a mini bar, safe, armoire for the closet that was spacious enough for a longer stay, good temperature control, a desk and a few chairs – all in period style. The bathroom was fairly large and modern, having a tub/shower combo, a single sink, a bidet, heated towel rack and a nice little desk with a mirror, typically - a cosmetics desk in period style. For some reason the hot water in the shower came on quickly and was very hot while the sink had barely hot water that took a long time to get warm. The maid service was good. They gave me a robe and slippers to wear and refreshed towels daily. The laundry service was quick. Breakfast was included in the lovely Celadon restaurant. It was the same every day: scrambled eggs, stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, various pastries and breads, jams, dried fruit, pineapple, orange slices, meat cuts, cheeses, some yoghurt, smoked salmon, etc. I got to know that breakfast well. The service was excellent and the staff was attentive and kind. Newspapers are to be found upon entering the bar to the restaurant in the morning and in the lobby. The concierges were especially helpful in getting me tickets to museums, arranging for transportation and helping me through a difficult problem I encountered with my flight. The hotel has a gym but I didn’t use it. I am grateful to the wonderful staff of the hotel for their kindness to me. Collapse

This is not my first review of the Westminster and I'm sure it won't be my last. If you are travelling to Paris you should try your best to stay at this hotel. It will make your visit complete. Classic French elegance with a touch of "Old English". You'll be happy in a regular room but try for one of the executive rooms. They are much bigger than in most other Parisian hotels. The hotel is perfectly located on Rue de la Paix in between the Louvre and the Opera. It has everything from parking, spa, Duke's Bar to a Michelin starred restaurant - Celadon. But despite having all the amenities that you could possibly need, I still maintain that what makes the Westminster stand out in a class of it's own is the hospitality. I have not visited another hotel that displays such a consistently high standard of care for its guests. The indefatigable Lidia, two award winning concierges, Nicolas and Jean-Charles and Katarina the Front of House manager who never ceases to amaze - nothing is impossible for her - all the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. On this trip I had the pleasure of meeting the new manager, M. Billy, and like his predecessor, he really understands the hospitality business. I highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure. Small hotel but with a great location near the Opera and walking distance from the Louvre. The rooms are clean. This is a good option if you are looking for a hotel near this area but with lower prices. The restaurant is really small.
