Owners- invest dollars to renovate this old property

I am sure at one point this hotel was a top notch place but the owners have failed to invest in renovations. The elevators and bathrooms are decades old. The furniture would be more suited for sale at a dollar store. And the carpets - everywhere- need. Steam cleaning from a higher deity. While the staff is friendly, the spaces are worn to the bone, the water pressure is better from a garden hose, and the entrance is similar to a run down country road. Thank goodness there was a Timmy's across the street. I am tired when I check in - the hotel should not be. Collapse

I'm inspired to write this review because of how bad the internet is at all hours of the day - I'm writing this at almost 1am and am frustrated by how poorly my video playback is. That being said, there are things I like about this place and it's not fair to just trash it for slow internet speeds. PROs: It's on the water and if you're facing it the views very nice, albeit if you're in the remodeled section they're a bit hemmed in (ie not panoramic) by the other tower and an apartment building nearby Breakfast in the lobby restaurant is delicious and the service is great Management does take a proactive approach to solving issues and any complaint I've mentioned has been immediately dealt with in a professional manner It's easy to tell many of the employees here do really care about the guests The lobby/entrance looks fairly new and swanky, and there's a big bar/lounge area to socialize Close to Union Station/stadiums CONs: The WiFi is some of the slowest I've encountered in 8 years of almost weekly travel and trying to watch a video online is like watching a cell phone video 15 years ago, at least until it can buffer appropriately which often takes about 5-10 minutes to do. This also means it takes a minute for the video to get going or if you need to VPN in for work it can make things frustrating. I wish they had a high speed offering instead of just a standard one for everyone. The location can be a minor inconvenience depending where you want to go and most of the restaurants/bars you will want to visit are a bit of a walk, but there are some options closeby. The water (from the sink only) comes out cloudy and it takes a while IMO for it to settle and become clear-ish, which mentally makes it unappealing for me to drink. It is usually full of people in Toronto for conferences, which isn't necessarily a con but it depends on the crowd/conference I truly want to like the hotel more than I do, but it's little things like the WiFi and water that I really struggle with. I feel like its an unnecessary frustration to deal with while traveling (at least as much as I do). I also wish the views from the renovated section weren't so enclosed by the other tower and the apartment building which is fairly close. All in all though I think it is a good hotel with staff and management that care, and especially if you're here just for a short trip is an excellent place to stay. I do think the price is very fair for what is provided. Collapse

As its a westin hotel, I had high hopes, however, while the rooms are standard, nice, clean, the Hotel itself is dated inside and out. It's a very large hotel I would say too large and because of this it lacks atmosphere and customer service. If you have any issues and we did have 2 or 3 you never get to speak to the same person. The bar is soulless. It is in a good location walking distance to city centre and beside the harbour but the hotel has no stand out feature. I would suggest this is a business hotel but not a hotel to visit on a vacation. Also the staff all appeared very miserable and unhappy which is never a good sign. Collapse

my wife and I stayed at the Westin for 2 nights while in Toronto to watch a Leaf playoff game. what an amazing property and a great location. we had a water view room and the views were amazing. the hotel was easy access to walk anywhere downtown. we walked approx. 25kms in 3 days in downtown Toronto. Toronto is now my second favorite Csnadian city, with our home city being our favorite. Thanks to Joletta for making our stay extra special. we were also celebrating my wife's birthday, we were very impressed and we hope to be back in the future..... thank you Collapse

I recently attended a conference at this hotel and had a wonderful stay Pros * location - the hotel is walking distance to Union Station and right on the waterfront * staff - everyone I interacted was very friendly and outgoing * gym and pool - Huge well stocked gym (free weights, lots of new machines, TRX, Kettleballs, and Bosu equipment. The pool is great for laps and 9 ft at the deep end (rare for business hotels) * rooms - I had a corner room with a fantastic view of Lake Ontario Cons * Can fill up so it may be difficult for early check in (especially hard if you come in on a red-eye) As it was just my birthday, the front desk upgraded me to a large corner room with lovely views of the lake and even surprised me with a dessert delivered to my room. I was not able to do an early check in due to the hotel being full. This is a popular hotel both for conferences and when there are games on as the Air Canada centre is located close by. Once there though, the room and staff were especially accommodating and very friendly. I took advantage of their Westin Fit gear rental which was an absolute steal at CAD $5 for the stay. They partner with New Balance and I rented workout clothes and a great pair of shoes. They do give you new socks. The gym was fantastic and the morning workouts really helped with the jet lag. I also like the promo they have where you can forgo housekeeping in exchange for hotel credits or starpoints. As I was traveling solo and generally like to keep things tidy, this was an easy choice to make. All in all, the hotel is a great choice for both business and families. Thanks to all and I will see you again on my next trip. Collapse
