I always have high expectations of Waldorf Astoria hotels although I am really not sure why. This is a small hotel with an annex building for their more basic rooms. If you got a pavilion room that is where you will be staying. I am never a fan of luxury hotels that do this but it is what it is. You can always pay more for the rooms in the main building of course. The front desk was fine and spoke English well which was helpful for me. The staff in the bar lounge area was also very good. You can walk into town quite easily. The pavilion rooms were just like any other hotel room. The shower/bath controls were a bit strange to me and I have stayed in several European hotels before. I wasn't really a fan of it here. I found the room to be unimpressive but fine. There is no A/C in the winter but I do not mind it at this hotel because they allow you to open the windows which I loved! If you don't you may get hot. I rarely ever use a heater at hotels since all the other hotel rooms heat up the entire hotel for me. There is a tunnel underground between building that no one told us about that was useful. The concierge which I generally don't use was awesome! They were the highlight of our stay! Maybe the only reason I would come back. The beds were comfy too though. We had breakfast on the last day which was an honors benefit. This was the only service failure I experienced and it was annoying. We stood at the host stand for 10 minutes. Employees just kept walking by and could care less. Finally some guy just basically told us to in the dinning room and didn't really say anything. No one even told us what we got for our honors benefit. A waitress came and she was sort of helpful. I think at this point it was the first time we ran into a language barrier at the hotel. So I can't fault anyone for that. However, she didn't refill our drinks until I got up and asked her. I saw the hostess show up 30 minutes later which I assume is why we had the seating problem in the first place. It just seemed very disorganized. They can do better for a luxury hotel. Collapse

We ended our trip to France with two nights in Versailles. I opted for rooms in the Pavillion wing as they were less expensive than the main hotel. Any concerns that they would disappoint were baseless. The rooms were enormous, beautifully appointed with plush mauve and purple carpet, nice silk drapes, velvet arm chairs, and a gorgeous bathroom with marble sink and plenty of counter space (yay!). Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby in the main hotel is lovely - a well executed update with bright modern touches (chartreuse upholstery....spectacular!) against the ornate original architecture. The location, right next to the park at Versailles, is excellent. It was an easy walk in the morning to the marketplace where we purchased picnic food (highly recommended!). Dining at La Veranda was very good though not particularly memorable. Outdoor terrace was a nice spot for drinks and a light snack with lots of sofas and tables and attentive service. Most people do day trips to Versailles but I'm happy we decided to spend a few days. It's a charming town and our stay at the Trianon Palace Hotel was the perfect ending to a wonderful French holiday. Collapse
