Before arriving to the hotel I read a couple of not so positive reviews about the front desk. Luckily I had the opposite experience. As I was approaching the front desk looking for the SPG dedicated reception, a lady great me with a smile and explained that there was no dedicated SPG reception (ridiculous !!!) Aside that, the lady was super friendly and prompt. I learned her name being Cindy. She was able to give me a nice upgrade (I’m a platinum member). Cindy checked and rechecked the computer and was able to even find a room that was ready available. (it was not even noon). My son was traveling with me, and she was also very warm to my son. Well done ! Collapse

Bottom line - I think this hotel is fine for a sightseeing stay, but would not recommend for business travelers. And yes, the rooms are small, but they have everything one could need, and the hotel is conveniently located. I stayed here one night before an interview. To disclose fully, the hotel reservation was made and paid for by the company interviewing me, and this review does not reflect on them, at all, as they were delightful. I'm only sorry, and sad, that my stay at this hotel negatively affected my interview performance. I arrived frazzled and not on time to interview as a result of some customer-service issues the morning of the interview. The good: - the hotel received a package for me the day I arrived (Valentine's Day), safeguarded it until my arrival, and called my room after I checked in to ask about its disposition. A hotel employee then brought the package to my room, and left it inside my room when we crossed paths in the hallway. That was totally great service! - check-in was friendly, efficient, and helpful on a Wednesday at 5 p.m. The hotel representative even asked if I was a SPG member, and said she noticed an expired account, and offered to add my stay to that account. Again, great service. The bad: - when I arrived that afternoon at 5 pm to check-in, there was not anyone attending the front doors to the building, to help guests get their luggage through the smallish revolving doors. Same for when I checked out. - had trouble connecting to wifi. Called front desk and they did not know what to do. They referred me to a 3rd-party help desk provider who tried for upwards of 45 minutes to get my computer connected. At end of call, and after being on hold, 3rd-party told me that hotel had a maintenance outage. Hopefully, they hotel front-desk staff are more timely informed of this type of event and communicate it to guests as it does affect one's ability to work. When I called front desk to inquire about business lounge, I was sent to second floor. The business lounge actually turned out to be two computers in a very open hallway that required a credit card to use (I had not brought my wallet down from 10th floor), so I finally gave up and turned in. - the morning of my interview, my plan was to leave the hotel at 915 am for a 15-minute taxi ride to interview at 10 am. Sometime between 845 am and 9 am, I discovered that my hairdryer did not work in any of the outlets. I tried resetting the GFI outlet in the bathroom, to no avail. I called the front desk and reached a woman who did not know what to do or advise, and started to make whining sounds like a 4 year old. I asked her to send someone to help me, but to give me a couple minutes to dress. I waited and waited. I debated going to interview with completely wet hair. At 915 am, I tried the hotel's hairdryer and it, too, did not work. Still no call or help from hotel. In grabbing hotel hairdryer, I noticed bulky plug and that it had a reset button, too. Problem solved, and still no help from anyone. I wish front desk or other employees had simply known and promptly told me that there might be two resets with use of hairdryer. I could have gotten ready calmly and been on time. - at 930 am, and feeling pressed for time, I approached front desk to check out. Everyone in front of me was checking in, though not actually checking in to rooms, just doing the paperwork and handing off their luggage. It would have been great if there had been a dedicated line for those checking out as those arriving did not seem pressed to check in by a certain time. More time ticked away while I waited for a clerk to process my check-out. - at check-out, I told the clerk, per the company's written instructions that room should be charged to company, despite my having presented a personal card at check-in. The front desk clerk would not hear me out, and just charged the room to my personal card. I had no choice, but to leave and catch a cab, made late by the hairdryer and customer service issues. I later called the business office and was able to straighten out via email. The ugly: - there was a used bar of soap in the bathroom - thick dust on the stretcher base of the desk - the shower drain backed up and I had 1.5" of water surrounding my feet. I was worried it would overflow before end of shower, but cut it short - the HVAC unit is very loud. I even switched off during hairdryer fiasco to see if maybe I had tripped some breaker by using it. Nope. - I spoke with a manager on Sunday evening about these issues, and thought he was going to email me, but have not heard back from anyone at hotel. Collapse

Great location close to Central Park etc. The rooms are small and clean but have all the basic necessities. No fridge or coffee facilities are provided which would be useful. Our room the first night was streetside and we hear sirens, car horns and other noise all night and didn't get a good sleep. The windows appeared to be double glazed but we could still hear the noise from an upper floor. Reception staff were very helpful when we asked to change rooms in the morning. We were quickly moved to an internal room on the same floor - much better! Wifi is available in the room but is limited to 3 devices - not sure why for a modern city like New York. Collapse

The queue at check in took about half an hour. This wasn't entirely unexpected, as I got there at about five-thirty in the evening, but it was the start to an entirely unremarkable stay. One of the elevators was out, so I spent a good deal of time waiting for the one elevator, and it took ages to get up to my room. The room itself was tiny, as is the norm for New York. It overlooked Lexington Avenue, with all of the noise that comes with that. My stay was punctuated by the occasional ambulance sirens that mark life in New York, so that really didn't lead me to docking points. Additionally, the room was clean, though the desk chair had some significant wear to it. One weird thing is that there is a fee to remove the mini-bar in the room. Especially since this is one of those new-fangled mini bars that charges you as soon as you move something, I was pretty upset. Additionally, the coffee maker is a Keurig, but they don't put it in the room standard. You'll need to call downstairs and wait for them to give you two pods and you'll need to call each day if you drink above your allotment. The walls were very thin, and my neighbors were pretty noisy. The gym also had some pretty old equipment, and a few of the treadmills weren't working at the time. The location is great though. An incredible coffee shop, the Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, is located around the corner for a great cup of coffee and overnight oats. I don't think I would have booked this hotel myself, but for a corporate trip it was adequate. Collapse

On the bright side, the hotel location is great and very convenient for anything: sightseeing, shopping or nightlife. The hotel is clean and the reception is quite nice. However if you expect the cool "W effect" of other W hotels within the group or amazing rooms, you will be disappointed. Rooms are not too nice and, at least the 3 I have seen (only two stays here, but in one I have changed room) almost completely lack of sunlight or view. Customer service, from receptionist to manager level, was again well below the usual W standard...and on one of my stay I was still SPG Platinum. With SPG Platinum, at least when I was there more than a year ago, you do get free breakfast, but not in the restaurant (that serves excellent food btw), but in the bar in front of the lobby...with poor choice and not good quality. Summarising: the hotel is not bad and the difference in Service and coolness is reflected in a price cheaper than other Ws. Just do not go there with high expectations or you will be disappointed Collapse
