Went to W hotel for just one night on a Business trip and wish I could stay much longer. I had already experienced the "W effect" in Taipei, and once again in Hong Kong, the magic works ! This hotel is simply the best experience a hotel guest can get: the general ambience, the super high quality of the room (perfect design, inspiring funny little ideas, comfort, the view, ...). But what makes W a unique experience is the quality of the service. Not something you can easily describe. Every employee is totally engaged in the client experience and they do it in such a natural way. They are totally genuine. They do not play any role, do not force any trait: they interact with their clients as they are, with their own personality, not trying to endorse someone else's personality. They are NO robot. These people have a why, a passion, a true interest to connect with people. And they are happy to do it for a living ! On my check out, a very nice guy from the Lobby luggage service just walked with me to Kowloon station to make sure I would not get lost on the way. This hotel is a pure gem. Full of energy, full of life and full of authenticity. Thank you ! Collapse

Brutal visit to the Hong Kong W. My room had non-functioning air conditioning, smelled of funk and moth balls, had no television, and dirty towels. The staff seemed unable, or simply unwilling to be helpful. Worst part is the location. It’s very inconvenient for business travelers, and nearly impossible to get around unless you take a taxi, and give yourself 30-45 minutes to go anyplace worth going. There is literally nothing around the property. I felt like I was in prison. Throw in barely useable Wi-Fi, a messed up room service order, and a Concierge who never made an appearance at his desk, it’s a recipe for a heinous experience. Absolutely Zero stars. Collapse

W, as a brand, is uneven. Sometimes it’s spectacular, sometimes ho-hum, as in why bother? A few weeks ago I left a mediocre TA review for the SFO W which was at best just any old downtown hotel and at worst a blot on the W brand. Not so the W Hong Kong: This W shoots it out of the park. Here are ten great things about the HKG loc: Convenience. You take the airport express from the terminal, disembark at Kowloon, take an escalator upstairs, and check-in. Seamless. It is a bit of a daily slog in and out of the hotel if using the subway, but even so the location is great. Plus, the Elements mall is enormous. Lot’s of shopping and eating options without going very far. (NB: The W is in metal; you need to know your elements to navigate the mall, which has various wings, fire, water, etc.) Design: It’s actually a bit over-designed if you care, the first time you try and find the elevator keys in the faux bookshelves you’ll probably curse the designer, but in fairness it’s consistent top to bottom, from common areas to restaurants to hallways to rooms. And given the staid design (often old school an uninspired design) of so many upscale HKG hotels, this is a breath of fresh air. Attention to detail: The modern traveler wants a bunch of things grand old dames of the hotel world fail to deliver. The HKG W scores. Take, for example, the seamless blue tooth through the HDTV. Fantastic for streaming. The USB plug conveniently beside the bed, check. Several wall plugs for charging (how many hotels have you stayed at where you have to unplug a lamp to get a free plug?). Loads of storage. Lots of simple amenities (water daily, a loofah, razor, etc.). Technology: WiFi is pretty good as hotels go; after a month in Australasia I give it second best on locations stayed at. The faux iPhone with Google maps which you can take with you on your daily outings is a MAJOR PLUS and really well considered for the tourist. You can also easily stream to the TV through your own devices. Liked the lights for privacy and cleaning as opposed to a card (why are supposedly five star hotels still using the insipid door hangers?). Layout: Suprerb room layout. We didn’t have a suite, we had a Wonderful Room, so on the basic side, but there was no short shrift. Really well thought out use of space to maximize convenience and utility. Ingenious use of mirrors throughout including a slider across the TV which helped make even a basic space seem enormous. Comfort: Bed was great. Work desk functional. Small lounger with fabulous view very nice. Sheets and towels in good nick. Professionalism: From concierge and check-in to all the staff, they are really focused on service, great attention to guest needs. Cleanliness: Flawless housekeeping. On turndown they virtually did a second clean. Super impressive. (The only thing I wasn’t keen on is ice; turndown fills your ice bucket but if you wanted a pre-dinner cocktail you have to phone for ice.) Views: A low floor is in the 30s. You will not suffer from poor views. The lit-up night across to Hong Kong proper, if you have a direct or peek a boo view, is enough to get you to stay in the room and order up. Pool: On the 76 floor, the pool (plenty big for laps) and jacuzzi, offer over the top views. We were there during a cool spell but even so the pool was 28 C and the jacuzzi was piping hot. Well that’s ten great things. I could go on but I doubt anyone on TA gets this far into a review except the property GM. If I was changing anything it would be these few minor things: The flexible work lamp was flimsy; the hot water in the shower could be a tad hotter; it would be nice if the shears opened all the way (but as the curtains and blinds are on auto open/close, there’s no option for anything other than open/close) and the pods for the French press, the could be replaced with something tastier. Extremely minor details all things considered. Really, a sensational stay. Collapse

My friend and I stayed at the W for two days over a weekend to celebrate his birthday. We were contacted by the SPG experience team beforehand for our visit. They not only upgraded our room and provided early check in by around 1:30, they also assigned dedicated reps to our case to prepare the room for the occasion. We really appreciated their special care and had a lovely weekend. Amenities were good as well, we took advantage of the gym. The only thing lacking was a straight barbell that's not attached to a machine. Collapse
