I was very dubious about this hotel having only paid €12.00 per night for our recent stay. However we were both thrilled to bits. Yes the hotel is halfway between Benalmadina and Fuengirola, its tired looking and could do with a refurb, and the small beach is 250m away downhill but its right in front of the Torremuelle train station which runs from Malaga to Fuengirola with numerous stops on the way including the Airport. The studio apartments are very clean with lots of piping hot water for showers etc, the beds are comfy enough and the staff we found to be very obliging. There is a small bar and cafe in reception with reasonable prices and a very pleasant barman. Don't worry about the noise from the trains as its electric and pretty much silent. All in all a great hotel if your on a budget, we have already booked for another week in March. One word of warning, if you live in Spain make sure you all have your passport with you, not a credit card embossed copy like i carry round. They did however accept my Spanish driving licence as its got photo and NIE number on it. As always weekends, bank holidays, July and August will be very busy. Collapse

Remote / little corner shop down steep hill only have basics. Fine if you can live on eggs bread and milk for a week. No onions no tomatoes.. rude staf Apartment: pool looks larger in photographs . Rusty piece of metal I presume is the tin opener. Had to wash all kitchen equipment including crockery that was filthy dirty. Also cooker hob did not work. Fine if you can live off scrambled egg microwaved for a whole week !!! No internet working on arrival. Was on the day after but didn't work properly in apt room anyway! Bar open at times to suit the ppl who run it. Expensive for two shots of not the proper Malibu ! Avoid at all costs ! Collapse

we have just returned from a great visit to this hotel/apartment . we were looking for somewhere small, slightly off the beaten track and good value for money. The hotel Vista De Rey was all of these things. It was also clean with a good little kitchen for preparing basic meals.some kettles are available or a pan works just as well.We were on the top floor of three and found it a great little sun trap, maybe slightly shady middle floors are good when it's hotter and ground floor which opens on to the pool if you have children. We had a hire car which was useful as shops are a bit of a walk away, but the train service is fantastic for getting along the coast and also for visiting Malaga, especially on a Sunday afternoon when the art galleries are free. The hotel is in Torremeule which is a fair way out of Benalmadena in a lovely area of apartments and villas.Benalmadena pueblo is up the hill but a car is needed to get there.Very pretty town with a beautiful Buddhist stupa. This hotel is great value for money, the staff are friendly and helpful, the room was cleaned ever three days and sheets once a week. This is an inexpensive hotel and if it suits what you're looking for its perfect,we recommend it. I chose Vista de Rey as a cheap two week escape from the miserable English weather. The positive: - All apartments and studios had a sea view. There is a railway station right at the back of Vista Rey, which is cheap and easy to use. The trains are all electric so it is quiet. There is air conditioning, you must ask for the remote. My studio was number 312 which was a good size but only for one or two people, any more would have been cramped. TV is good but you must get the remote. Find a program that was made in English, e.g. CSI, press the button marked CO1/11and a menu appears on the left side of the screen, scroll to second one down to immediately change the language to English. There is free WiFi but it is incredibly slow. The negative:- Very steep hill to get to the only supermarket or the sea, not recommended for anyone with bad legs. TV - no English news channel at all. My second week was awfully noisy both late at night or very early in the morning, furniture scraping across the floors. My studio 312 had a badly fitting window and door and a huge gap on the bottom of the door. When the wind blows it can actually blow a magazine across the room. The kitchen is small but has a silly wall built which serves no purpose other than to make the kitchen very small. The utensils, plates, etc very sparse and poor quality, but they serve their purpose. I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot and I always try to be pleasant to other people, but it struck me that most of the staff at Vista de Rey appear extremely unmotivated and unhappy.
