Several nice touches! Needs a lounge.

I stayed four nights attending a conference. This property is just a little too far from the convention center to comfortably walk more than one round-trip per day. I'm an SPG Platinum member and was hoping for lounge access, but the hotel does not have a lounge. Instead, they provide a $21 restaurant credit for breakfast, which was tasty, but not nearly as fast as popping into a lounge for a decent cup of coffee and a croissant. (The breakfast potatoes were especially tasty.) My room was muggy but the front desk was able to hack the thermostat to allow it to be set below 65. I'm not sure what the temperature in my room really was, but it surely wasn't 65. Once I was able to set it on 63, the air ran, the humidity cleared up, and it was comfortable. There is complimentary strawberry lemonade available in the lobby at some strange hours. It seemed to be a late afternoon thing but wasn't available in the evenings. The same area (right outside the restaurant) has coffee available in the morning. The in-room coffee service is an espresso machine and a separate electric kettle. The kettle was a nice touch, since it could be used to brew tea, or to add hot water to espresso to make a pretty decent Americano. There is also a Starbucks kiosk in Horton Plaza Park right across the street from the hotel. Another nice touch is the bagged ice in a cooler near the elevators (see picture). Rather than going to your room, retrieving the ice bucket, and coming back out to an ice machine --- you can just grab a bag or two of ice on your way from the elevator to your room. Shoe shine service is complimentary. They did a good job. Turndown service is available but must be requested each evening. It includes a full ice bucket, a piece of chocolate, and a small bottle of water (plus towels and coffee supplies being refreshed). There was a lot to like about this stay, but the location just wasn't ideal. Based on the experiences of several colleagues, all of whom were in hotels scattered around town, I think I would stay at The Pendry if I were attending another event at the Convention Center. The Pendry, however, isn't a participant in Starwood Preferred Guest. Collapse

(This review was also posted to Google 3 months ago, and the US Grant has yet to post a reply.) Where do I begin? My husband and I wanted to end our week vacation at the beautiful and highly rated US Grant. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we had nothing but issues which I addressed with Management shortly after we returned home. When we arrived, we were not greeted. For a 5-star hotel, I expect to have someone offer to take my bags or open doors. None of this happened. (I don't want to sound snobby, but this is why we chose a hotel with this rating.) We stood in line for check in and they told us our room was not ready. They told us to take a seat and they would grab us when it was ready. The gentleman helping us walked away and never returned. We sat for about 15 minutes before we walked up an asked if the room was ready. The new gentleman on shift had no idea we were waiting. Not a great way to start, but I'll cut them some slack. We paid more for an upgraded room, to find out it faces the park littered with homeless people. The noise from the screaming people and the traffic all night was unbearable. I asked the front desk if we could be moved and they said they were sold out and handed me ear plugs. We then went out and explored the town and came back to our room, which had not been touched by housekeeping. I called the front desk and kindly asked them if they could send someone. They apologized and said they would send someone right away. I checked on the room an hour later and nothing. I called again and they said they would send someone. Upon my third request I went to the desk in person. They apologized yet again and offered me a $50 credit. (Given the cost of this room, this was a measly offering but I accepted.) The hotel itself was beautiful and the room was very clean. If you would like to stay here, please request a room away from the busy street and park facing view. We've stayed at top of the line, 5 star resorts/hotels in the past and have had a brilliant experience. I am disgusted with the way we were treated and I unfortunately will not be returning. I hope things have improved for future guests. Collapse
