Spa is dirty and horrible. Concierge inattentive and lazy. DO NOT stay here!

We had spa appointments and based on reviews, we thought we'd give it a go. Big mistake. FIrst of all, the spa is over the car park so when you are walking on the glass panel walkway in the spa, you can see the shadow of and hear the noise of the cars. The changing rooms are on the ground level and were not very clean. You know when you get that feeling that things aren't quite up to snuff in terms of cleanliness? That's precisely the feeling we got here. After changing into your robe and slippers, you descend into the underground spa, which is dark and very depressing, with decor stuck in the 1970s. An old damask wallpaper which is discolored near all the door handles looks circa 1971. While you're waiting for your therapist, you wait in a dungeon-like room with four chaises that have white plastic seats. UGH! There is no outdoor area, so everything is subterranean. There is a salt sea bath, like at the Dead Sea in Israel, except at the Twelve Apostles, there are NO lights, just a pool in the dark. Very creepy! Even before we had any treatments, we asked for our money back, which the staff gladly refunded. The manager told us either you love this spa, or you hate it. You can tell by this review that we hated it. We should have known, because when we arrived and were waiting to ask the concierge or manager for directions to the spa, he continued to talk with a friend or colleague for minutes while we waited. The hotel reception area, like that of the spa, was dated and had a musty odor. Definitely NOT five star, and definitely not worth the money. We've stayed at many Four Seasons/Fairmonts/Ritz Cartons and this dingy hotel should take abundant lessons from true five star properties. Save yourself time, money, and most importantly, disappointment. For experienced travelers, this hotel doesn't warrant a stay. As a previous poster noted, this is a three-star property at best. They need to totally close this hotel and spa and do a head to toe renovation if they continue to expect a five-star clientele. Collapse

I've been for my 6th time staying at 12 Apostles. Hotel is beautifully located, good service, good restaurant. Can say that you will not be wrong staying there. Meanwhile hotel is getting OLD. It need to be refurbished urgently to avoid having it's customers running away on new top selected hotels in Cape Town. Live expectation of a Hotel Room is 10 years. It seems that it is not the target on that place. Nothing else to say despite price are quite high and deserve high toplevel rooms to get value for money into accommodation. In any case one of my favourite places to stay while visiting Cape Town with children as hotel management is very caring about them and I really appreciate it as most of good 5* star hotels in South Africa have kids restrictions. Seems that they forgot one day there were kids and that a young customer today will became a good customer tomorrow. . Collapse

This is apparently the most luxurious hotel that Africa has to offer with '5 stars and amazing views'... If this was a 4-star hotel I would say acceptable, 3-stars I would say outstanding, but, in my opinion, a 5-star hotel doesn't have the following: 1.Poor service from staff who turned us away from the bar when we wanted to order drinks saying a waitress would come see us but never turned up 2.Only 1 kitchen to service 3 restaurants and a banqueting room! 3.Rooms with a mountain view facing a rock wall 4.Door handles that are loose and don't close properly 5.Gaps around the doors which don't fit the door frame so light from the corridors spill into the room at night like rays of sunshine keeping you awake 6.Glass shower panels that don't prevent water spilling onto the bathroom and flooding the bathroom 7.TV channels listed that don't work or aren't tuned in 8.A knock-off nespresso machine but the water settings haven't been programmed into the machine so it only serves espresso portions for both buttons 9.Coffee mugs and not espresso cups 10.Plastic bed sheets and pillows listed as 'cotton' 11.A 12 choice pillow menu, 9 choice soap menu but no coffee pod menu 12.Rooms that are turned down twice a day but the coffee pods aren't replenished 13.Only 2 coffee pods per day... the others included 2 roobois tea and 2 hot chocolate pods! 14.The ocean view is just that - ocean, on a highway and no beach... you get the exact same view on a cruise ship 15.The parking lot doesn't get much better with a round about in front of the entrance that their people-carriers use as parking space preventing taxis using the round about! We stayed here for 5 days on our honeymoon and booked the banqueting room for a dinner 6 months before we left. Initially they quoted us R26,000 for the room for 40 guests. Then 2 weeks before we were due to arrive we received an email from their 'Wedding Co-ordinator' who said they had to requote us the banqueting room costs based on their 'wedding rates' when we weren't even getting married there. The room cost itself tripled with the full quote coming to R145k! ... a money making exercise gone wrong. Given our experience I'm glad we cancelled that and opted for a lamb spit-braai on the beach instead which cost us R15,000 in total for 40 guests. Overall summation: Appalling ! Collapse

Second stay in this landmark hotel and what special stay it was - totally love the classic feel and dramatic location, a complete one off with lots of punch and style. I think the most impressive service was always with the front of house team, the concierge was incredible and he secured us tables for 4 days worth of our favourite restaurants and was one first name terms with all the restaurant managers to get us great tables- so helpful, so friendly and so professional - wish I could remember his name so he gets some credit! The whole set up here is excellent - it was only let down by some poor service in the leopard bar, breakfast and around the pool- not a deal breaker but the service here should be as slick and helpful as the front off house team. All in all a very special stay, thank you Collapse

I spoiled myself to experience what it would be like to stay here. I done it an got the t-shirt. Sadly I don't think I will bother again. It is a beautiful hotel but a little over rated for the price. They had a wedding on and the whole place was over crowded and noisy. We had a sea-view room (which I paid extra for) but I couldn't open the curtains because of the wedding guests partying outside my bedroom window. Therefore no view and a lot of noise. The spa and tea in the bar is highly recommendable though. Collapse
