Second stay at 12 Apostles. Really enjoyed our first stay. This time we were put in a room which really should not be rented out. We had a lovely view of a concrete wall. Also, we were not informed that the hotel was having a wedding function the weekend. If I had been given the choice I would have chosen a different hotel. Not really relaxing to have to listen to loud music and inebriated non-guests making noise the whole afternoon and night. While at the hotel, I had another Red Carnation group hotel pestering me for a 50% deposit payment for a stay in a few weeks time. Needless to say, I canceled that booking immediately. For a hotel that charges close to the Bristol, Paris (a stay which I thoroughly enjoyed), they need to get their act together. Cape Town may be pretty but there are many destinations closer for Europeans to travel too. This will be my last visit to a Red Carnation hotel locally and internationally. Collapse

HOTEL (8/10) What can I say, overall it was fantastic and gets a well-deserved 8 … sadly, not a 10 as we feel there is always room for improvement, and other ratings to follow will explain my 8/10. RECEPTION and STAFF (10/10) The champagne welcome and courteous and friendly staff, certainly put us at ease straight away. CONCEIRGE (10/10) 10 is just not a high enough score for Nardus and Dane … without these guys, we just could NOT have done the things we did … Top Marks. BELL BOYS (10/10) Always smiling, always friendly, always helpful SHUTTLE (09/10) Both drivers were excellent. We only gave a 9 as we felt the shuttle could run more often. ENTRANCE-Upper (10/10) Brilliant ENTRANCE-Lower (04/10) Very poor. It does not do the Hotel justice. If I had my way I would get rid of it!! CAR PARKING (09/10) Good, but maybe guests in the hotel should get preference. LIFT (07/10) Is this the slowest list in Cape Town?! LEOPARD BAR (10/10) Another rating that needs more than a 10 … just Fantastic. Everyone who works in the Bar makes everyone welcome. Special thanks to Tyronne, Fabian, Richard, Malcolm, Mischa and the manager, we didn’t recall his name. LEOPARD-BAR-FOOD (09/10) Good food, good efficient service, but maybe change the menu every week LEOPARD-BAR-SEATING (08/10) We were disappointed that you had to RESERVE seating, which meant most nights we had to sit at the Bar (but hey, we got to chat to all the Bar Staff … what a hoot we had with them!!) LEOPARD-BAR-PATIO (08/10) Great Views, but again, we were disappointed that you had to RESERVE seating, maybe consider some outdoors heaters Café Grill (09/10) Sadly it took us about 7 days to discover that the Café Grill never closed … this needs advertising more!! Top Marks to Gina and Gaylene. ROCK POOLS (06/10) The grounds and seating are great, but the water in the pools is TOO COLD!! SWIMMING POOL (08/10) It is just too SMALL, but the water was nice and warm. SUN LOUNGERS (06/10) These really need a tidy up, maybe replace the cushions SUN PATIO/LUNCH (09/10) Tables are ok. SPA (10/10) My wife really enjoyed it, and maybe 12A should advertise that the pools inside can be used at any time? WEATHER (10/10) Absolutely brilliant, except for one night where we didn’t sleep a wink as we thought the wind would blow 12A away!! BEDROOM #428 (10/10) The maid(s) provided BRILLIANT service, we never met them, which was a bit of shame?! BATHROOM #428 (10/10) Always spotless. Occasionally we ran out of Body Lotion, and it would be good to have a list we could leave for the maid to ensure we don’t run out!! MAID (10/10) BRILLIANT SERVCE. Ha Ha … on 2nd day, we removed the sheet between the duvet and the mattress (too hot), and the maid put it back, the following day we removed it, the maid put it back, On the 4th day, we think she got the hint and we never saw the sheet again ROOM PATIO (07/10) Just too small ROOM TV (07/10) Needs to be updated, to a HD RESTAURANT-Dinner (09/10) Menu needs changing weekly! WINE sommelier (10/10) Brian the Wine sommelier was awesome!! CONSERVATORY (08/10) This needs advertising more. GYM (08/10) I used the Gym every other day. Maybe Two treadmills would be better. The A/C needs fixing. Collapse

My husband & I booked to have afternoon tea in the Leopard Room and we weren't disappointed. The staff were so friendly & the food was lovely. We couldn't eat all the cakes so the waitress kindly boxed it up for us to take back to the hotel!

We have stayed here many times in recent years but this visit held a few surprises. We had booked the Azure restaurant for our first night before leaving the UK and were looking forward to a cocktail in the bar before dinner. However, we were shocked to be stopped at the doorway to the Leopard bar and asked if we had a reservation. Almost all the tables were free but had 'Reserved' signs on them. We were directed to the stools at the bar because 'that's all that's available'. When we left for the restaurant the tables were still unoccupied. We asked to see the bar manager who was full of apologies and promised to reserve a table for us for our entire stay even though this was unnecessary as we were eating elsewhere some evenings. Since when did residents of a 5 star hotel need to book a table in the hotel bar ? The main pool is fairly small and the number of sun loungers is limited but the biggest problem concerns the decking around the pool area. The subframe is clearly failing in some parts so that whenever anyone walks past your lounger you 'bounce' to the point of giving you a headache ! Work needed I think. The sea-facing rooms are lovely but the traffic levels on the road outside are increasing every year. On weekends the locals rise early and enjoy taking their V8's and Harley Davidsons for a (noisy) spin down the peninsula. We barely slept during our stay and weekends are best avoided. Perhaps double or triple glazing is needed. Collapse

After a scam artist cancelled our rental house the week of New Years we were in a bind and ended up needing a 1 nights stay in Capetown which was 100% impossible over the holidays. We were able to snag a stay at The Twelve Apostles via American Express Concierge. We were not only grateful to find a place in a sold out city but jealous we couldn't stay longer- we tried! The hotel staff was quite professional and offered great hospitality. Even the doormen offered us champagne while we waited for our Uber to take us to dinner at the Codfather. It was quite thoughtful. The beds and decor were lovely, and we loved the oversized bathtub- we wish we could have enjoyed the property longer. Although we didn't have time to experience all the hotel offered we did get to enjoy the delicious sparkling wine breakfast buffet on the terrace with a spectacular view of the ocean in the sun- it was absolutely lovely! One piece of feedback would be the gym is definitely an afterthought- its a tiny room with slated ceilings making it sort of difficult to move around- especially when there's more than 1 other person in there. Regardless, we still loved the property and hope to return some day! Collapse
