Budget deal at hotel, this was because of refurbishment, so fair enough. Clean room and good bed, but bathroom smelt at night (no extractor). Entertainment good and lounge area etc. Staff OK and hotel situated in good position for Babbacombe. See more

We stayed last minutes as a couple and toddler. Booked via booking.com in the morning and headed off. Price was fantastic, very very competitive. We opted for half board so dinner bed and breakfast. This was great for us as we didn't want to drag the toddler out to a restaurant. Hotel is in a great location with a decent outdoor play park literally metres away. The hotel has inhouse entertainment most nights like bingo, quiz and cabaret singer. Bar is fairly reasonable but stick to the house brands. Bar, lounge, entertainment and restaurant areas are really lovely. Very modern, cosy, recently done up. Bedroom a little dated but we didn't care, it was perfect for us as a base. Tea/coffee facilities, shower, telly etc. Food at tea time was a couple of starter options, salad, three choices for mains and two pudding choices. Done buffet style and good. Breakfast buffet style full English, toasts and cereals. Will definitely stay again as half board and entertainment was a plus xx Collapse

We were a small party of friends staying at the Trecarn on a National Holidays 5 day stay and had a great time away for a short break - but this is about the hotel. As a previous review has stated, you get what you pay for and so we have no grumbles in that respect. All you can eat buffets, but don't expect fresh veggies. As one of our party was vegetarian the chef was very helpful offering to prepare something special in addition to the three choices already from the buffet for the evening meal. This was in addition to the soup, salad and delicious desserts. A very wide choice for breakfast as well. All the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful and thanks to the young man who carried two heavy suitcases up the stairs at the same time. This leads me on to the hotel itself: the lift was out of order but fortunately was due to be repaired in the following week. The downstairs reception bar and seating areas have been furnished and decorated more recently and are fine. Incidentally, entertainment in the form of an hour of bingo followed by a singer was the norm for each evening. The singers were good but personally, I think the bingo could be given a miss - it was far too dull and serious, but that's just a personal opinion as there were groups of people who seemed content taking part. Now for the rest of the hotel. It's in dire need of renovation: scuffed paintwork, worn carpets, old wallpaper, much of the decor un-matching, wonky floors, peeling paintwork and water stains on some of the walls and ceilings. It looks like some of the pipework needs repairing. Our bedroom was spacious enough though the bathroom was rather cramped. The bed was clean and comfortable but all the decor rather past its sell-by date. I felt rather sorry for the hotel but despite the downsides, the staff and the plentiful buffets and the social areas made up for this. If you're watching your budget, this hotel will suit your purpose, only about 3 minutes from the front and one minute from a bus stop, and 8 minutes from the theatre which puts on some great shows. Where do I start? This is the worst hotel I have ever set foot in. National holidays Friday to Monday break. On arrival booked in and straight into the dining room for evening meal which looked disgusting and was inedible. Dirty dishes no cutlery or condiments on table. Total shambles. Dining staff unhelpful. Chef came out of kitchen with really bad attitude. Our room was directly above concert room so consequently the sound was as if we were in the concert room. We were offered a twin room which had a dehumidifier in and totally smelled of damp. Disgusting. Lifts not working. This hotel is dirty and possibly in breach of health and safety regulations. The staff are some of the most ignorant and unhelpful I have ever come across. Possibly because they work for Britannia Hotels Group. I can't express how much you should avoid this hotel like the plague. Collapse

This hotel has a lot of bad reviews so i was nervous about staying there but i was pleasently surprised about nice the hotel is. I honestly couldnt find anything wrong with our stay there. The lounges, dining room were very modern. Plenty of seating areas. Our room had been modified for diababled guests, and looked newly refurbished. The bathroom was a huge wet room and the bedroom had two single beds with an extra one added as we needed a family room, if you took the bed out there would be ample space for a wheelchair. Breakfast and evening meals were help yourself buffet, there was plenty of choice and food always replaced quickly. The staff in the dining room were very freindly, helpful and polite. The hotel is a very short walk to the sea front and local bus stop into Torquay. We stayed with a coach party and would definatley stay again. Collapse
