Stayed here for the second time, also reviewed the last stay some 6 months ago. The hotel is privately run, well appointed, in great order and in beautiful grounds. One of the main attractions for me is the great gym, pool and leisure facilities. It is the attention to detail and food that lets it down, I can’t understand why it is not recognised and improved. Staff great at check in, good room overlooking the gardens, room No 5. A pile of dirty linen and bedding was piled up on the landing outside my room, it remained there throughout the stay and was there at checkout. Dinner in The Grill was a ribeye which was fine, it was served with a herb butter, one mushroom and Parmesan & truffle fries, the dish was dry and cried out for a sauce and some green vegetables. The fries were simply frozen, skinny fries with cheese on top, cheesy chips!! Breakfast is limited at best, see pics, that is the whole offering for the buffet breakfast. Last time I stayed I asked for natural yoghurt for the fresh fruit, non was available. I asked the same this time and the response was the same, I also asked for the fruit compote but again they apologised and said they had none. Both these are regular breakfast items and are a standard offering on their printed menus. Great staff, great setting and building, poor food and lack of attention to detail (wonky pictures in the restaurant and poor housekeeping standards) leave much lacking at this hotel. Collapse

The hotel was a converted manor house and very traditional. The room was very large and well appointed with an enormous bed. The spa area was nice, clean and well equipped. The pool was a good size great for swimming lengths (16m). The gym was well equipped, my wife had a massage which she enjoyed very much. We ate in the restaurant on both our nights and I have to say i have never tasted steak and lamb so nice. The food was absolutely superb and service was friendly and professional. We got talking to head chef Bobby who has only been there a couple of months but doing great things in the Kitchen. Cant wait to go back. ! Collapse

My husband and I stayed here with our 2 year old for 2 nights. It is a beautiful mansion in a secluded location so it's very quiet. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We mistakenly parked in the first car park we arrived at and entered the building, only to be told that this was the spa entrance. The hotel reception was slightly further on and we should have continued round the corner until we reached the second car park. We were helpfully shown the way to the hotel entrance and retrieved our car after we had checked in. We booked a package break which included dinner on the day of arrival plus a picnic the following day - the picnic was forgotten but hastily put together for our second day. It was very basic consisting of a sandwich, bar of chocolate, bag of crisps and a drink. I noted it would have cost £15 per person for the picnic had it not been part of our package which seems expensive for what is included. We had dinner at the more relaxed The Grill restaurant and we liked that the menu was small but varied, I had the lamb loin which was perfectly cooked and seasoned, he had the aubergine which was tasty but on the small side. The chef was happy to make a child's portion of pasta which wasn't on the menu which was great. Breakfast was simple with a selection of cereals, juices, pastries and fruit, plus a hot menu of full breakfast, porridge, eggs and other options. They also have champagne if you wish to indulge. Overall a lovely hotel, friendly staff, and a super location which makes it convenient for exploring the island. Don't bother with the packed lunch. Collapse
