As with a lot of reviews on trip advisor, you take a lot with a pinch of salt. After reading the reviews before my holiday, I was worried! I needn't have! I've stayed in the benalmadena Palace and Sunset beach club numerous times, but wanted somewhere quieter with the kids! Hotel - modern, very clean, spacious, 5 star feel! Wait time on lifts isn't too bad! Reception friendly and efficient! Taxi rank outside! Location - yes, further away...however, I'm on holiday. It's nice weather, I don't mind walking a little further. My 5 year old son walked 5 times to the marina. Amazing shop (super mercado) which is about 10 minutes away. Taxi is about €7 to the marina. Bus stop right outside the hotel! Rooms - not your typical Spanish hotel room. Very stylish. I stayed in superior double and it was plenty! Rooms very clean, cleaned every day. Great view. Air condition in room, mini bar which is empty, but can be used as a fridge. Food - nothing you can say about the food, other than choice, stunning and delicious. One thing to remember is you're a different country...so there's choice. You will get a fry, but it's not an English fry. There's a lot of choice, all delicious and they do a different theme every evening! Chinese night was my favourite! Pool area - massive, grassed, palm trees, 3 pools, including a kids paddling/wading pool and a play park. Plenty of sun loungers. You are right on the sea front and there can be a breeze. Very quiet and chilled. There's also access to the short walk to the nearby beach. Pool bar serving snacks, drinks and ice creams. Staff - friendly, energetic, always smiling!! Very helpful! Downside!!! There is only one downside in my opinion...the French. The hotel says it has a hotel policy of not reserving sun loungers. However, I witnessed our French cousins down there IN THE EVENING and first thing in the morning putting towels out! The worst thing is there was a lot of sun loungers that were reserved...but not used at all during the day. On the last day I was tempted to hide all their towels 'just for the craic' Overall I was absolutely delighted. My son preferred this to the benalmadena Palace...I must admit it is the best hotel I've stayed in on the costa del sol. Tip: go all inclusive, it's worth it!!!! Collapse

When we checked in to the hotel it was around 11pm at night, the reception staff were very friendly and the service was very quick and easy. However there was no offer of food on arrival for late visitors (I have experienced this often in other hotels when we arrive late at night). This didn't bother us to much as we were very excited to just be on holiday but it is something for the hotel to think about. On getting to our room the balcony door didn't actually shut or lock! The next morning I went and told reception who repeated that someone would sort it out. They never did. We were on a high floor and realised the possibility of getting robbed was slim so didn't keep on complaining. We did get a free safe with the room which was great. The holiday it self was very relaxing and I did find the food was the best part! I am a very fussy eater but this holiday I could find multiple things to eat at every meal. The animation team are amazing, so lovely and really do try to make an effort at getting people involved in the activities throughout the day. They need a pay rise as they pretty much work form about 10:30 till sometimes 1:30am with only small breaks! Always full of energy. Bar staff were great, especially the staff at night, very friendly! The part that spoiled the holiday for me was on last day. We paid to have to room longer which was perfect as wasn't leaving till the evening but at 12 they cut off our wrist bands so no more all inclusive for us! If we wanted we could pay a fee to be all inclusive for the rest of our stay! I have never been or heard of a all inclusive hotel that does this as when I pay for 10 days all inclusive I expect to be all inclusive for 10 days! We paid for a pizza at the pool bar which was lovely but did cost €10 and it was only small compared to the pizza I bought outside the hotel at the marina for €11 and it was double the size! All in all it was a enjoyable holiday but I think they do need to improve on areas! Collapse
Could easily be improved

We stopped here as a quick getaway for 3 nights. We booked directly with the hotel saving a considerable amount of money compared to booking with Expedia. We booked a double room all inclusive. We booked a transfer through hoppa from the airport to the hotel. Once we arrived at the hotel check in was pretty slow. The receptionist was friendly and he gave us all the information on the hotel and noted that the all inclusive finishes at 12pm the day we check out (something that I was not aware of). We were on the 7th floor (I did send an email requesting a high floor which was granted) and placed in the Malaga building (the other building is Marbella). When we got to our room it stank of stale smoke. The room was spacious and mainly clean (blood or ketchup on the curtains), the bed was huge (bigger than a double) and comfortable, TV with a few English channels and the view was lovely which included part of the sea and the town. We also had pleasant views of the moon rising in the evening. The sun doesn't fall on this part of the hotel in the afternoon however it is a sun trap in the morning and I actually couldn't sit out on the balcony due to the intense heat! We went down to reception to see if we could change rooms but was advised that the hotel was busy so we wouldn't get another room with a double bed on a high floor so he arranged for a maid to spray the room which helped for a bit! We then went downstairs to the pool area and there were NO sun beds available at all. This was in the afternoon. Loads of beds were reserved with towels but no bodies lying on them. The hotel states that this is against their policy however nobody seems to be enforcing this policy. The following mornings that we were there we managed to get a sun bed however if you leave it to the afternoon you will struggle. Breakfast was ok, the guy who serves the omelettes was really friendly (think he is from the uk) dinner wasn't too bad but there were times that we struggled to even find a table. We did not eat there at lunch so cannot comment. We did use the snack bar a lot and found that being all inclusive you are treated as 2nd class citizens. You're not allowed a large cup of pop (only paying customers are allowed) nor are you allowed to have more than two cups at a time. So we were served with very small cups. Forgive me but the last time I checked I had paid for my room and food and drinks so therefore should be able to choose what size cup of pop I have. This would save me from going to the bar so many times (it was a bit of a walk from where we were situated and it was very hot!). I found the staff quite rude at the snack bar except for one lady who was very friendly with blonde hair. The lady with reddish hair was very rude to us simply because she did not understand the difference from a hamburger and a cheese burger. Portions of ice cream were very Small. The hotel is situated at the one end of town so the walk to the centre would be a long one. We got a taxi to the marina which cost us €6ish there and €7ish back. We did not use the casino so unable to comment on this. We tried the indoor pool but it was freezing. We were told it would cost €42 to have a late check out room on the last day (don't know if this included food or drink) however they were nearly at full capacity so they were unsure if we could have one. We decided to use the luggage room and shower instead. The shower which is located near the swimming pool is terrible. The shower head needs replacing and the water sprays everywhere. It was not a pleasant shower to say the least. I don't think I would come back to this hotel unless some of the staff were trained on how to be more pleasant and there wasn't so many restrictions on all inclusive. It could also do with a slight modernisation. Other than those issues we did have a lovely break. Collapse
overrated may have been four star previously

We stayed here from 18th of June for 10 nights all inclusive, The hotel itself the grounds, pool and the rooms were lovely we had a sea view balcony. The food was definitely not four star struggled to get dinners in the evening mainly deep fried veg and then you would get Brussel sprouts or runner beans with breakfast, very poor selection of food for breakfast and dinners, just as well burger king and macdonalds were nearby. Not a lot of the staff spoke English and if they didn't understand what you were saying they would just either look at you or say no comprende and walk away. Trying to order a large beer proved difficult on some occasions even after the same member of staff had served you previously. The hotel seemed to be very understaffed which may be an explanation why some of the staff were quite rude. No one seemed to be in charge at meal times we had to set our table by ourselves a few times and the service was generally very bad with only a few staff making an effort to be friendly and helpful. On a couple of occasions areas of the hotel that were previously used for guests were closed off without any explanation for private functions, on one occasion the chairs were taken away from an outside seating area to be used for a reunion party and we were expected to stand beside the tables. On another occasion a group of school children arrived and ran amok in the hotel running screaming around corridors and in lifts un-supervised and when my wife approached reception about it was told it is only for one night and directed to where the teachers who were supposed to be supervising were all sitting chatting no where near any of the pupils. A lot of the areas of the hotel you see in the pictures is actually closed off and not in use. We would not stay here again even if it was free gratis....Mr D Paterson Collapse

Booked two weeks here with friends (4 of us in total) and paid a lot of money for a special anniversary holiday in what looked to be a special hotel. I cannot fault the surroundings - beautiful grounds, pools and right on the beach front but some things were very disappointing. Our rooms were lovely , fantastic views from balcony and extremely clean. The swimming pool / towel guys were great and I found all staff to be friendly. The food was very good and I cannot believe anyone who says they could not eat - there was a vast array of salads, breads and hot food so you could always enjoy something. my disappointments : The paperwork tells you before and when you arrive of the dress code for the restaurant so we looked forward to 'dressing' for dinner. Waste of time as the management do no enforce dress code and as usual people go into dinner wearing shorts, sweaty t shirts and clothes totally unsuitable for a restaurant - why is this allowed ?? The entertainment in the evening was very poor - the young team did their best and worked hard but very average and disappointing as there's nothing around the hotel to easily get out to. Then of course there's the 'rule' clearly on paperwork and in the grounds 'no saving sunbeds'. Again management failed in enforcement as every day there were beds with towels on for hours and hours without a person appearing - other guests having to lay on grass due to selfish grabbers and lack of management of this . Don't have rules if you are not prepared to enforce them. so yes we had a good holiday, lovely weather , good food and we took a few buses / cabs out to see sites, go market and marina etc but the restaurant really angered me - kids running about , people eating off their plates walking around and not using hand sanitiser and wearing beach shorts, flip flops and sweaty clothes YUK not what this hotel portrays. I feel I overpaid for basically a 3 star just with extra facilities that you pay a lot for and don't use. They need to sort a lot out. I wouldn't stay again but will go to the area again nearer civilisation as this hotel is a way out of town. Collapse
