My wife and thirteen year old daughter took a residence with the sofa in the sitting room as a bed also . We had a big long balcony a well appointed kitchen and bathroom . It was all very clean and was tidied each day . A couple of things did not work but were quickly repaired . Even my shoes that came unglued were fixed . Most impressive . The gardens are lovely and there is lots of shade . There are four pools with bars and plenty of sun beds and fresh towels . Breakfast buffet is the best for British visitors that I have experienced . The great issue is the cost of all of the other many in house restaurants. We ate at three and while they were good especially the pasta one we felt financially pillaged and so I reverted to trip advisor to find local family restaurants for which there were many recommendations from sun garden visitors . We found three very local who would collect and return you foc and the food was all lovely and plentiful and about one third of the price . We used the climbing wall , snooker ,ski donut and took a boat trip around the islands and also a boat trip into Dubrovnic both of which I recommend . We hired a jet ski from outside because it was so much cheaper. You can use the hotel bus to take you to Dubrovnic for 45 kuna or you can catch a local bus from outside the gate for 15 kuna . The staff were all polite and friendly and would make our outside reservations for us. If it were not for what a lot of us think about the prices charged for food here this would be a five star experience . I would come again but eat out ! Collapse

I spent the last 5 days of my holiday in Croatia at Sun Gardens, and it was the perfect end. They have everything you could possibly want in a resort, including a spa, 2 gyms, a beach, 3 swimming pools, a sports centre and a number of restaurants on site. I made use of the spa gym which was small but it was bright, they had the necessary equipment and even provided chilled towels to cool off! The pools were all perfect sun spots and there was even a pool dedicated to adults. I'm part of a family of 5 so it's difficult to find something that everyone likes, but I feel as though Sun Gardens was suited to every member of my family in a different way. The staff were helpful and there was generally a very positive atmosphere. I only have one complaint which was that when I was walking past a stall selling swim floats, one of the members of staff was making a complaint to another member of staff using very abusive language which was very inappropriate considering there were kids around. Apart from that, I cannot fault the resort. Our hotel suite was 2 floors with 2 bathrooms, large bedrooms, a fully functional kitchenette and a television. The AC worked well and the beds were comfortable. Check in and check out was smooth, and we were provided with all the information we needed upon arriving. Very impressed with Sun Gardens, I'll be back! Collapse
Five Star ? If so, quite a few need polishing!

The setting of this large hotel resort is outstanding. It is beautifully maintained with great facilities- especially for water loving families- but it does not deserve the five star accolade. Individual staff members try their best to give good service, but often the system lets them down ( a thirty five minute wait for a light lunch in a hotel bar virtually empty of guests on two occasions is just not acceptable.) And while staff manage the ordinary reasonably well, out of the ordinary in terms of requests or even emergencies ( a lift stuck on a floor) seems beyond them. But the real " let- downer" here is the food. Five different on site restaurants are simlply not...different that is....serving up almost identical menues of very ordinary food. It was as if a job lot of supplies had been bought to cover every base. The quality was very average and certainly NOT five star. Dubrovnik is expensive enough....Sun Gardens was breathtakingly so. £38 for the cheapest bottle of wine in the cheapest restaurant, little change from )£100 for a shared basic starter and a pizza each. It is also VERY busy. Granted, we were there mid August, but I do not expect to have to hunt for a sunbed by a pool in a five star hotel, or enter a bun fight with most of Europe for a very lack lustre buffet breakfast. As beautiful as this place is, it does not deserve to be a " Leading hotel of the world" without a lot of attention to food and fine detail . We are still reeling from a very expensive and often disappointing holiday. Collapse
It's all relative...and relatively speaking this isn't at the top

Sun Gardens is a large hotel and residence complex with three large outdoor pools and at least two toddler pools. Whilst it claims to be 5*, it lacks the service elements one associates with 5* properties. Expectations are high with 5* family properties, with attentive customer service being top of the agenda...but here there were few instances of truly feeling valued here. The poolside bars are ok, but other similar properties have waiter service. The loungers seem to have past their best (the same being true of some of the parasols). The food is ok with the exception of children's selections which were very poor (all the restaurants offering the same poor selection except for Pasta). For example, the rooms (in the residences) are small and poorly designed. Some of the garden view rooms seemed to have views of a bush, a wall and some gravel...not very appealing. Also, beware of the most noisy air-conditioning units we have ever experienced - akin to sleeping on a flight. This severely disrupted our sleep, but did mean we were up early enough to get the towels down on the sun loungers by the pool ;-) . Whilst the staff all worked hard and were pleasant enough, there is no poolside service, no welcoming spirit and a distinct feeling that the team were stretched too thinly. Location-wise the property is positioned well, just a short journey into Dubrovnik, with excellent views over the sea. Prices are high but not extortionate, but for us the service was not 5*, nor were the rooms. Collapse
