From arrival to leaving this hotel didn’t fail to disappoint. This was the best place to spend our 31st wedding anniversary. The building itself was quirky, lots of little nooks and grannies, twists and turns - every public room beautifully decorated and comfortable to sit in for a drink, lunch, a cream tea or pre dinner apéritifs. We were in Room 7, which was perfect for our wedding anniversary which was on the 7th May - a fantastic coincidence. The room was wonderfully decorated, clean, bright with fantastic quality bedding and fabrics adoring the walls - no wallpaper here! There was a more than adequate supply of hangers (always a bugbear for me but not here), ironing board, iron, hairdryer, fluffy robes, slippers and room safe. Fresh fruit in the room, complimentary bottled water and lovely toiletries. The bathroom was a great size, well set out, with lots of tittle touches in things provided. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast for three nights, dinner each night was fabulous a good selection to choose from - in fact the lamb was so delicious I had it two nights running! The breakfast choice was more than adequate and there was no issue should you want to go slightly off piste! Our expanded waistlines will certainly attest to the quality of the food. On our last night our dessert plates had even been decorated with ‘Happy Anniversary’ and we had chocolates and a rose on the table. I can not fault every single member of staff, all of them went out of their way, and above and beyond, in ensuring we had the most fantastic stay. On the actual day of our wedding anniversary we went back to our room to find a little bar of chocolate and a parchment which highlighted historical details of what happened on the day my husband and I got married! How amazing was that! As I said all the staff were brilliant but there is always that one member of staff that you seem to see more often and who goes even further out of their way to help and in this instance this was Zoe! We’d been asking about Dorset Knob Biscuits as we’d heard about them but not seen any; next morning at breakfast Zoe told us she’d been making enquires and had sourced the one remaining packet in the local village store and had reserved them for us!! Zoe is a star and an asset to the hotel and the Red Carnation Group! In summary a wonderful hotel that I have no hesitation in recommending; in fact when next in the area this will be where we stay! My wife and I have just had four nights in this wonderful hotel in mid Dorset. This was a return visit to a place we really love. We always relax immediately and sink into a luxuriously decadent and peaceful haven. Part of the Red Carnation Group of hotels it benefits from a truly internationally inspired ethos of customer care and attention. There are numerous people and services which merit special mention but I shall limit myself to but a few. The grounds and gardens are beautifully nurtured and maintained. A real credit to the garden team. The front of house is friendly and helpful. Always willing to assist with suggestions on where to visit and places of interest. Although rarely seen the housekeeping team are efficient and well organised. The room is always made up promptly and well. Very good quality bed linen. The restaurant is very professionally run with great service from the waiting team. The food is exquisite! Head chef Steve is always available for a chat and then he would disappear into his kitchen to produce plates of food of the highest quality. Of course none of this would be possible without the overseeing skills of the managers Jack and Alex. We are booked to return in December but we are just discussing the possibility of returning sooner! Collapse

we stayed here for a 2-night stay and it was delightful. It's a small property, so feels very secluded and personal. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the main street. Bathroom was ok, not as well appointed as i would have expected - but, again considering it's an old property I appreciate it may not be possible to modernise bathrooms as much as we would like. Decor throughout the hotel is very traditional and quite chintzy - not our usual taste, but seems to work here. Staff are very warm and welcoming and trained to the highest standards. Food was delicious - if somewhat overpriced. All in all, we had a wonderful stay for 2 days Collapse

We came here for a relaxing break for 3 days. Nearly £500 per night for a Principle Room. Room: room 10. Reasonable size but one window looked over a car park and another over an asphalt roof. Shower over the bath was poor (no pressure) but good linens and comfy bed. Dining: poor. The service was shocking and had to request EVERYTHING. At one point we said to the waitress we think we were at the ‘table that time forgot’ - but still waited ages for everything. Even the wine. Service was poor: it was beautiful weather and asked for a jug of Pimms at the lovely Carp pond. We unfortunately shared the pleasure with the last guests rubbish for the whole experience. See pictures. We somehow felt like second class citizens, although we paid handsomely for the privilege. Not for us although we had an amazing meal at the Acorn Inn with fabulous food and even better service. Collapse
