We arrived by car and had no choice but to wait on double yellows to allow unloading and valet parking in the covered park opposite. A warning of this would be helpful. The staff were very welcoming but the room was small and somewhat dingy - as was the bathroom. The bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished but, as is often the case, the modern features were a triumph of style over function. Trying to regulate the shower temperature while at the same time controlling whether the water was directed either to the bath or the shower required a technique which escaped us. The restaurant staff were anxious to please but were let down by the kitchen. Our pasta with mushrooms turned out to be a game of hunt the mushroom. Our complaint was however courteously received and the cost of one main course was deducted from the bill. Beware though the addition of an 'optional' gratuity! All in all, very pleasant but probably not worth the £310 for 2 nights B & B. Our next 2 nights in the Fortescue in Salcombe (£220) were much better. Collapse

The views from the hotel (including our room), were exceptional, stunning, and took your breath away, but not as much as the climb back up from the beach or railway station which was conveniently placed immediately below the hotel. I and my wife are quite active, (we are both over 65), and although we managed the daily climb (twice a day) back up to the hotel, I could imagine that if you are infirm or not as fit as some people, it could be hard and would restrict your movement to and from the Hotel. The accommodation, food, and service were excellent, and if I was thinking of returning to St. Ives, I would definitely want to stay at the Harbour Hotel again! Collapse

We have just had our incredible wedding at the Harbour Spa hotel. Our coordinators were truly fabulous..from the initial show around to all of the communication leading up to our big day. Then the day itself was truly magical. A special thank you to Jasmine, Dominique and Sydney. The staff on the day were also phenomenal and went our of their way to make sure every guest was looked after. Will, Donna and Josh really stood out for us as well as the girls in the restaurant and Emma and colleagues on reception. If anyone is considering staying her or even get married her, do it as you won't be disappointed. The food was lovely and the rooms very comfortable. The staff truly awesome! Collapse

IF you like only a trickle of water from faucets and the shower in your third floor room... IF you like a lift (elevator) that only works periodically... dragging your bags up and down ... (in all fairness, the staff did take the bags up on the then-working lift) IF you like exceptionally slick tubs with no safety hand-hold bars... IF when you request a non-slip mat to avoid a fall for that same tub, and are told in no uncertain terms "we will do not, and will not provide them"... IF you like a shower head that cannot be adjusted... IF you like having no wash cloths in the bath, and when requested the hotel provided one for the entire three days of our stay. IF you like paying the equivalent of over $300 per night for your stay for a room as described above... Notwithstanding all of the above, I do give high marks to the staff who were professional, attentive, and competent. Collapse

Its very unusual for me to rank a hotel so low. Being a person who stays away in budget hotels weekly with work, I have experienced some frustrating events and wacky sights which you just learn to accept. However you don’t expect this from a 4* Hotel and spa. Firstly check in, unorganised, uninformative. No info on breakfast or spa and even after asking questions we were left guessing. Sadly the receptionist seemed rather flustered and distracted. Not a great first impression. Further to that, to our horror our car keys were kept in a key cupboard which was never locked, with the reception often not supervised. Please bear in mind when I say reception, this does not include a “walk behind “ counter but a rather an odd desk arrangement where customers were regularly standing behind admiring the view out of the window. This led me to feel anxious throughout our entire stay. Secondly, why would a Hotel provide gin in a hotel room but no water? Even the bar man seemed confused why we weren’t being supplied with water blaming housekeeping as the issue. Then there is WiFi. Our room seemed to be a black spot. After raising this with reception they seemed disinterested however they said they would look at it. I raised for a second time and was given the same answer. Two days later I hadn’t had any communication back and still had no WiFi. I believe no action was taken at all due to the fact the ladies in reception kept stating that it was working for them in the reception area, to which I agreed with, but it wasn’t working in our room at the other end of the hotel. Sadly by this point I tried to take action into my own hands and emailed the manager of the hotel directly to which I never received a reply. Clearly they don’t want to have people in their establishment who are on “working breaks” A simple apology would have been enough or a movement of rooms. On a positive note, the hotel itself was brilliantly presented and the location is fabulous. The views from the bar and restaurant are breathtaking. Service within the restaurant and bar area was good. Unfortunately the level of service in other areas didn’t even come close to a budget premier inn or even a travelodge. I would suggest that this Hotel would be a nice break but the service leaves you feel undervalued and frustrated. Would I return ? NO Collapse

came here with my partner for our 1 year anniversary on May 2nd and also for a relaxing night away after a stressful couple of months, apon arrival was fantastic, lovely mannered receptionist who couldn’t of been more helpful, beautiful clean room and a lovely view out to see, but when we got to the actual spa/relaxation part this is where things went VERY downhill, children in the pool because very loud, very badly behaved and genuinely ruining the lovely atmosphere of the spa, people were trying to relax but kids were running around jumping in and out of the pool/jacuzzi splashing those trying to relax and having no regard for anyone around them, felt like I was at a public pool NOT a spa, staff didn’t seem to care and let them run free as did the parents.. could not of been further from stress free if it tried, I understand children are aloud at this hotel but the spa should not be a place for them. Breakfast - tasted fantastic, lovely service again with a beautiful view but only thing I was not content on was the portion sizes, asked for scrambled egg on muffin which may as well of been baby portions, was not satisfied at all and not much selection at the continental either to make up for this. Room on the small side for quite a big price, but everything to hand, including a poetry book on how to sleep soundly in comfy, over-pillowed bed. Good level of comfort, slightly arch-luxurious feel to the place, but wonderful view over the bay from the restaurant and terrace. Nice welcome, although when I asked how to get to the Tate, possibly new receptionist apologised and said she knew nothing about St Ives. The hotel is above the action round the harbour but it only takes 10 minutes to walk back up the fairly, but not too steep, hill. Very convenient for the station. Collapse
