Nice is an excellent place for a mini break. You feel comfortable in the city with crime being apparently very low. The bars and restaurants are friendly and for a city good value. Cheap train connections to Cannes and Monaco add to the opportunities available. Walk the Grand Prix circuit whilst in Monaco, look at the film stars hand prints in the pavement in Cannes. Collapse

Firstly may I say that this is my first bad review I have ever given I would normally only write a review to praise my accommodation if it warrants it and are not the type of people who complain about anything but this is an exception. My wife and I went to the Hotel Splendid and Spa Nice for 3 nights to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. When we arrived we were put in a room on the 6th floor which was fine. We were both tired from the journey and thought we would have a short rest unfortunately we could not do this as there was hammering and drilling coming from what we thought was next door so we went to the bar and had a drink instead. The next day we were woken by the same drilling and Hammering and the sounds outside of what sounded like a bottle bank. We were annoyed but did not want to make a fuss as this was meant to be a special time for us so we had breakfast and went out for the day we returned late afternoon to hear the same noise my wife wanted to complain then but I said no as the staff on the desk had been very friendly and helpful about 5pm it stopped. The next day again we were woken by the same noise but a this time both my wife and I had very bad stomach upsets probably from something we had eaten and were forced to stay in our room. The noise at this time got too much for us and my wife went next door to complain and found the noise was not actually coming from that room it turned to be on the 3rd floor which tells you how loud the noise was they were gutting the entire 3rd floor and the bottle bank turned out to be a chute down the side of the building they were throwing the waste down so she went to complain to the hotel manager he did offer to change our room at that point but we were not feeling well and it was our last day so we declined later he sent up a bottle of wine to our room but again because of our stomach complaint we declined as it would not be drunk and thought it was inappropriate. This was bad enough but it got worse when we got home I wrote e-mails to the hotels parent company Warwick Hotels and to the hotel complaining about the hotel we did receive a reply from the hotel offering us 1 days room payment refund but when we said it was all 3 days of disruption and that we should have been told about major works in the hotel before we went to give us the option of cancelling we were told that as we only complained on the last day we must have been happy I said we were not the type who complain and do not like confrontation but this did not seem to matter to him. I had received no reply from Warwick Hotels so I looked to escalate the matter only to find that they are NOT affiliated to ABTA or ATOL so answer to no one they also do not put an address to contact there customer services on their website now I know why I had to phone up a hotel in England to obtain contact details the manager Michael was fantastic and this company could learn a lot from him. I then phoned Paris as I was told this was the place to put my complaint I was told they would look into it after many unanswered e-mails from me apart from one that had an attachment that my computor told me had a virus and would not open I again contacted Michael who phoned Paris for me and came back and said as this hotel is a franchise of Warwick hotels they are not going to do anything. So my advice to anyone ho goes to this hotel if you have any problems at all complain straight away do not be what we consider to be friendly as if you do not it will be assumed you are delighted even though their own front desk staff told us the noise was unacceptable and we were right to complain. My wife and I had our wedding anniversary totally ruined by the hotel and 1 month frustration of trying to contact Warwick Hotels I wish I could take this matter further but they have no affiliation to any complaint commissions as our hotels are in the UK. I would never think of returning to either this hotel or any linked to Warwick hotels and although this review is very long I hope it helps people find out about this hotel and hotel group before booking, Collapse

I recently spent 2 nights in the Splendid Hotel whilst participating in the Nice-Cannes marathon. I booked a marathon package at a very reasonable rate. Check-in was friendly and the staff were very helpful and happy to answer any questions that were posed to them (there were a lot) and were happy to correct me if I made an error with French (it had been a while since I spoke it!). Room was nice and spacious however it was quite dated and was disappointing not to have a balcony, although I accept not everyone can have one. Dinner the night before the race was very good, plenty of pasta dishes, perfect for carb loading, as was the marathon breakfast at 0430. The views from the restaurant on the 8th floor (top) are superb and you can get a full panoramic view of Nice from up there. Definately a highlight. I did not have dinner the 2nd night, however the dishes were well priced. Breakfast the 2nd morning was a little disappointing with not a huge amount of choice. Although it is a buffet breakfast, I believe that 19€ is very steep. I did not use the gym facilities for obvious reasons, however they are in the process of being renovated. I didn't use the spa either, as prices were steep, but again, it is a spa! The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the train station and 5 minutes from Promenade des Anglais and the beach. If I was able to give an extra half star rating, I would. I will look to stay in this hotel again next year for the marathon. Collapse

This is my go to place when visiting Nice. I was thrilled to return (my 3rd visit) in April with my daughter. My husband and I had visited twice before. The hotel just completed a renovation when we were there. It was very tastefully done. We booked a room with a terrace which is well worth the extra money. It was so peaceful and relaxing sitting on the terrace in the morning and every evening. The hotel has a beautiful rooftop deck with a bar, restaurant and pool overlooking the city. The hotel is perfectly situated between the Promenade des Anglais (and the beach) and the train station. We liked the quiet residential area the hotel is in. It is a quick walk to the center of town and the old city. We loved being a 10 min walk to the train, because we did several day trips to Monaco, Cannes, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Ventimiglia- Italy. All these cities and others are less than an hour by train. I must mention, the staff is top notch and did everything they could to make our stay wonderful. Nice is the perfect place to stay and there is no better place than the Splendid Hotel & Spa. I look forward to my next visit! Collapse
