An unfortunate review to write considering how lovely everything was. When we arrived we were upgraded to a deluxe room which was lovely of the hotel staff, food was excellent, room was clean and service was very good, however our stay was very uncomfortable due to how cold the room was and the lack of heating and hot water in our room (room 5). This was discussed with the receptionist who was very accommodating and checked the room and hot water for us and informed us that it was hot enough for her but may not have been for us therefore gave us the option to change rooms. We decided against this as the hotel had already upgraded us and we didn’t want to appear as awkward guests however this was a mistake as we spent the night freezing, wearing dressing gowns and using the extra blankets provided. This was such a shame as the hotel had lovely open fires which would have helped to alleviate the problem however none were lit or had firewood to light, this and the lack of hot water unfortunately made our stay very uncomfortable. Overall the hotel was lovely and we would like to stay again but maybe in a different room or alternatively a different time of year, it would be lovely to see if this review is taken on board at the hotel as it is such a small change to make to ensure guests have a far better experience. We have just spent a very pleasant overnight stay here for my husbands birthday. The room was spacious and clean. Lovely bathroom with good toiletries. The food at dinner was plentiful and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our breakfast was very very good. Various cereals, fresh and dried fruit, juices and croissants. The cooked part of the breakfast was perfect. I asked for sausage and two poached eggs which were done to perfection. My husband had a full English with extras of beans and fried bread which weren’t on the menu. These were suggested by our waitress Gaye who was an absolute delight. She was friendly, bubbly and excellent at her job. She kept our coffee pot topped up and made sure we had everything we wanted. I have a little issue with the heating. I know it is an old place and the plumbing may be struggling, but it was a little cold in our room. The other thing was, which is so obviously not the hotels fault, but other than one other lady we were the only ones dining that night. It was a bit quiet. The same in the bar area really but if no one else is booked in then it can’t be helped. It is just after Christmas anyway and it wouldn’t put me off returning. The rest of the stay was lovely. Really nice Hotel with pleasant, helpful, staff. The room was spacious and well presented and very clean. Both breakfast and dinner were very good with a good choice of meals. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Service was good as also was the food. Nothing to really complain about. Some of the decor was "a little tired" Will definitely stay again. May get noisy at weekends as weddings feature quite heavily. Collapse
