My husband and I visited for two nights on a summer deal, first impressions approaching were very good. Quick check in and shown to room number 4 Robson. Nice big room, bit dated but everything fits in with the style of the hall, and the bathroom was modern with nice large white towels. Shampoo, conditioner & body lotion provided and one small bar of soap. Thought they had forgotten to leave shower gel so rang reception, she had a look 'in the cupboard' couldn't find any so she said they must not provide it. So we had to manage with the soap. Two tissues provided in the box, not replaced when empty, and bathroom bin not emptied when room was cleaned. Food overall was very good, only complaint was I ordered Chicken Supreme on the second evening and a plain chicken breast was supplied, bit dry so I asked where the sauce was. The waitress returned with a sauce which was I'm sure warmed up soy sauce, not the white creamy sauce I was expecting. They did give us both a glass of wine as an apology but that meal was disappointing. Overall not a bad stay, the views are lovely and the gardener seems to be getting to grips with the grounds, most of the staff work hard to make your stay enjoyable but complaints do not seem to be passed on or try to be resolved. We do have the Classic Lodges Privelege Card, but never had an upgrade or any 'treats' in the room so really its just to let you know of special offers but you'd get the same deal online anyhow. Recently had a business meeting in a function room. First impression really good, lovely quality carpet and wood floor area for dancing if room is used for a wedding. While sitting my eyes were drawn to the cobwebs on the curtains and then looked closer to the carpet and noticed it hadn’t been vacuumed very well from a recent function (wedding presumably). The quality of a hotel is all down to the cleanliness. The Manager might need to take more time walking around and looking closer and give the cleaners more time to their job. This was a business meeting in a function room so cannot comment on the rooms, restaurant, bar area etc. Collapse
Beautiful location and views but in need of a face lift.

First impressions are good. The hotel is reached by a long private drive and the view of the property is impressive from it. We stayed room only as we were visiting friends in the area and meeting them for breakfast so no opinion on the food or service. Unfortunately on the way up to our room is was very apparent that the inside of the property is a bit tatty. Frayed stair carpets, broken window frames (taped shut!), creaky floors. In the room the ensuite bathroom had the worst floor standing toilet roll holder I have ever seen - it was so old it was corroded. The toilet seat annoyingly kept refusing to stay up as well. In the bedroom there was a huge mark on the dressing table top that should have been sorted or the piece replaced and the TV was on a bracket that didn't quite point in the right direction and was not level or anywhere near level. I walked round the grounds and the gardens in the morning. The property is quite extensive and the upkeep must be expensive and time consuming. The owners are to be congratulated for keeping it going but do not go with expectations of staying in luxury immaculate acommodations. Collapse

We stayed on the evening meal inclusive deal and paid extra for a suite. Well worth the extra cost, the room was huge, beautifully furnished and had excellent views. The deal also included a cream tea, which we swapped for a bottle of wine with the meal, making it even better value. The meal was excellent and the staff were all really friendly and professional. Can't fault it. Collapse

My husband and I booked a ‘secret escape’ to Solberge Hall for his birthday in February. We also wanted to check out the local area as a potential place to live in the near future. The hall itself is set back up an impressive drive down a country lane. It was very exciting driving up to the hall expecting very high standards. On arrival the reception area was non existent because the floors were being waxed and cleaned. After finding a member of staff we checked in and was shown to our room. The room was a grand size but very disappointing. The decor was outdated and needed lots of TLC and the bathroom looked as though it could do with a deep clean - so much so neither of us used the shower for the night we were there. The room was also extremely hot right through the night, I was 7 month pregnant at the time and the heat was awful. We tried to turn it down but couldn’t turn off the radiator. When we did phone down to reception there was no answer so we just resorted to leaving the window open all night. As part of our package we also got an evening meal. I must say the food served on the evening and for breakfast was lovely - no qualms whatsoever. Overall, the staff were friendly but the place just lacked atmosphere and any real facilities. It needs a massive upgrade in terms of decor and a more luxurious feel to the place. Collapse
