The following is an observation to share with hotel upper level personnel. I come to hotel often for their lunch buffet when in town. At last the hotel has a welcoming concierge in the lobby. I inquired if the previous one had left the hotel job but was told the unfortunately he was on leave. I am sure I am not the only one who appreciates the present guy. Maybe management will see the difference and learn. Collapse

Had a very pleasant trip. I asked to change my room after the first night as the bed was not quite right and they changed me to a nicer room without a problem. The staff in the restaurant and bar were excellent and made me feel comfortable travelling alone this week. They offered late checkout which helped with my schedule and Pat’s Clubhouse Sandwich in the menu is delicious!! Thank you! Collapse

I'm a gold SPG member. Booked 2 nights, Jan 26th-28th. I booked my stay via a 3rd party website. The 3rd party website offered a FREE breakfast. I decided i would pay more for a club room (which also had Breakfast included). Basically, both standard and club rooms included breakfast. I have used Club rooms at a Sheraton before. I have always been given to choice whether to eat breakfast in the Club room, or in the main dining room where 'standard' rooms eat. Not at the Ottawa Sheraton. This particular hotel has a rule where if you book a club room, you cannot eat in the main breakfast room. WHY? If a standard room gets to eat in the main breakfast room, surely people who have paid more get the choice? Nope, not here. I queried this with both the 3rd party whom i booked through -(booking.com) who contacted the hotel as they too hadn't heard this rule before. On day one, we ate in the downstairs breakfast room. I explained to the server who seated us that we were Bed & Breakfast. He said to me, if you don't have a voucher from check in for breakfast, all you need to do is sign for it, and they will credit it off your room bill. It was only seeing the charges ($45) for it on my room folio that i realized i had been charged. At this point i began to contact both the hotel and booking.com. They refused to move on it, basing their decision (As told to booking.com by a hotel manager) "If the client has booked and paid extra for a club room, why would they even 'want' to eat with everyone else"? Well we like choice, thats why. We paid more for our room, yet got less. Just as an FYI, the second day when we did eat breakfast in the 'club lounge' it was truly appalling. And i mean beyond edible. Thank god this was our last morning and we were checking out that day. I generally use Hilton, Radisson and Sheraton (and other SPG hotels) Which i am Gold with all, and never had such restrictions whatsoever. Please note, due to this experience, i will ensure neither I, nor my clients, business associates or loved ones use Sheraton or SPG hotels ever again. I certainly wont be. All because they were too stingy to allow us to choose where we ate. Never ever again. The only reason this got 2 stars was the location. The room was just 'okay' and certainly nothing to get excited about. Collapse

This was a weekend city break, the Sheraton was booked as Bed and Breakfast weekend rate. We were asked if we would like to upgrade to the Club Floor which has access to the Club Lounge. We agreed to pay the $40 extra. The Saturday morning (us and 4 other people) were sitting in the restaurant for the breakfast. I have to say - for $22 it has to be the worst waste of money ever - the sausages were hard and overcooked, the bacon was chewy the coffee burnt! you get the idea - well during this I said to my husband (at least its included in the room rate) Anyway - we ended up having to sign a bill for the full amount and we were told if it was included the reception would take it off. I said I would like to just have a look at what is in the Club Lounge for breakfast out of curiosity as I said it may be easier to eat in the lounge on the next day! The the lounge choice was tiny! cheese egg in a tiny croissant and oats wreathe only hot options - the rest was great / toast continental (no egg, bacon, sausage) We said, we will need to eat in the resultant again as there is just no choice in the club lounge. Later that afternoon my husband noticed that the breakfast charge was still on the room bill, so he rand up to find out why. The reception told us that our room rate with breakfast was only from the Club lounge and if we decided to eat in the restaurant we would have to pay the $22 each! This was never explained about the up grade to Club room - so everyone be carful as you are getting a very poor deal indeed if you are asked to upgrade to a club room. Now here is the other thing! We stay in hotels all the time, this upgrade is no upgrade at all - the Club floor is no better - the rooms are very very dated very poor quality about everything in this room from towels through to water - you do get 2 free bottles though! This hotel did not want to even try to help out the situation of being charged for Breakfast when it was included in the room rate! no help what so ever - in fact they just don't care about their guests! My advice is don't book this hotel, Ottawa is a wonderful city, don't let this hotel spoil the experience - choice one of the many other options! Collapse

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in December after needing a break from the busyness of our lives.
