The Scandinavia Hotel’s windows provide a stupendous view: to the building's left is the Church of Santa Maria Formosa, whose name is linked to an ancient legend. It is said that this "Campo" was the site of the apparition of a rather prosperous-looking Madonna and, to celebrate this miracle, a church was built in 1492 that was given the name of Santa Maria Formosa (the Buxom).
The Scandinavia Hotel occupies one of the best locations in Venice: Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge are only a few minutes away on foot; from the nearby vaporetto landings you can reach the train station, Piazzale Rome and all the places of artistic interest.
The Hotel Scandinavia has 33 large, airy rooms. All the rooms are carefully decorated with period furniture and sumptuous Murano glass lamps and have every type of comfort such as TV, mini-bar, direct-line telephone and air conditioning.

This hotel is just 10 minutes from the bustle of San Marco but Campo Formosa where it is situated, is a large Campo that was just lovely. The area is large and has a museum, other hotels and palazzos, a canal running on one side, restaurants and some vendors. Initially we were disappointed with the room as it was top floor and quite small but it had a tiny outside terrace and overlooked this lovely square. We could open the doors and listen to the classical music of the buskers and look out over the life of the city. The breakfast is a buffet and very nice. From the hotel, the walk to any of the big attractions is 10 or 15 minutes. When we arrived on a water taxi from the airport, we were dropped off at Rialto and were told it was 5 mins to the hotel. We had a map. It was so confusing that an old Venetian man took us in hand to show us where to go. It's quite daunting with the luggage so make sure you're sorted. Collapse

First of all the staff at this hotel are wonderful, very helpful and accommodating. The room was small and quite dark but clean and had all you needed for a city break but you wouldn't want to spend too much time in it.Bathroom was immaculate and very acceptable. Breakfast room is very small and we preferred to eat outside the hotel on the tables and chairs provided. Breakfast is standard continental fare and was adequate. Hotel is on a nice square and in a good central location for getting around Venice.Info states this hotel has a bar. It does not it has a vending machine in the lobby. Collapse

Stefano at the front desk who checked us in was very professional, helpful and extremely polite. For me that’s the best first impression when I visit a new place. The hotel has a beautiful old cottage charm but with all the modern accessories needed. For a new comer, at the beginning , it was a little difficult to find the place but just like everything else in Venice, once you learn how to orientate yourself, it gets much easier. Just use the church Campo Santa Maria Formosa as reference point and you will be fine. If your room is facing the square, it may get a little noisy in the evening but then again; this is Venice and it’s to be expected. The boat stand to go to Murano and Burano Island is only 10 minutes away. Murano Island is famous for Murano glass and it’s worth visiting to see how it’s made. Burano Island is a cool little Island next to Murano which is very cool as every building here is painted a different color. St. Mark’s Square (which is a world heritage site) is only 10 minutes walk away. Hard Rock Cafe is also located here. Make you sure check out the restaurant recommended by Stefano called 6342 A Le Tole. Collapse

We stayed at the hotel Scandinavia for 3 nights for our 25th Anniversary. The hotel is lovely and bit small the decor is very nice and the room we stayed in was just right for the two of us. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the hotel lift went up to floor 3 but not to the 4th so if you are planning on staying here and you have problems with stairs like me then tell them before you arrive so they don’t put you on the the 4th floor. They serve Continental breakfast if you like that sort of thing(I personally don’t ) fry up for me. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. The fruit and veg guy outside is always there from about 6.30 till about 21.00 his strawberries are the best we have ever had recommend them to all. Collapse

Clean, offers free breakfast which I wasn't too impressed by, and nice bathroom. Good place to rest your head after a long day, but nothing really special about it. The staff is helpful in giving you directions and recommendations.
