Rooms were ornate and quaint, but very room. Bathrooms were very small with little to no space for toiletries. Breakfast was continental style and food was adequate. Breakfast area was very noisy. Lobby and entry were very ornate and attractive.

We booked a triple room, which turned out to be a double with an armchair (as opposed to sofa)bed. It would have been ok for 2 people, but too small for three adults. The extra bed, which I struggle to call a bed was not comfortable as is often the case. Having said this, the room looked recently refurbished, the bathroom new and clean. The hotel is in a lovely central, but quiet location, a few minutes walk from Rialto bridge. There is a convenient access by canal, so watertaxis can be enjoyed to/from the airport, piazzale Roma or the railway station. Breakfast has had bad reviews, so we were not surprised. Still, in my opinion, a 4-star hotel should not be serving juice from concentrate, omelets made from dry-eggs and yoghurt from a dispenser. Collapse

To sum up our four night stay, I would say it was fine, (once we had moved rooms after a bad first night). Our first night was in room 412, situated on the ground floor and opening onto the breakfast area. We were woken in the early hours by loudly speaking delivery servicemen outside in the street moving trolleys back and forth from the canal at the back of the hotel, then the kitchen staff arrived and clattered plates, crockery, glassware, cooked croissants etc, set out tables, and generally chatted in high Italian voices like it was lunchtime, (when in fact it was 5.30am). It was an unusual room with two small high cell like windows covered in curtain fabric, and higher than my head height so there was no outlook. The room felt oppressive and suffocating especially as it was wall to wall wood panelling, like a fitted kitchen with heavy Italian style dressing. There was only one socket and no bedside tables. It felt like a converted office or storage room. And a general sense of no privacy as the main door opened onto the breakfast prep area and a second door led directly into a stairwell/corridor area at the rear of the breakfast room. A small note to the hotel - in the UK, women travellers are not placed in ground floor rooms for security reasons and wouldn't be put in a room with a second door..To their credit, I asked to be moved the next morning and to be fair to the desk staff, this was immediately effected and we were relocated to the first floor to a quieter and better room. The rooms were spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. It's in a pleasant and quiet square away from the main chaos but, equally, only minutes from the action. One of Venice's finest cafes and pastry shops is opposite the hotel and the restaurant next door to it looked excellent. Location cannot be faulted. The wifi was hit and miss and required tedious fiddling to get logged on. For a four star hotel it would have been nice to have some basic refreshment facilities in the room eg a kettle and a bottle of complimentary water. It looked like a four star hotel but didn't behave like it. There was much lacking. I can't quite put my finger on why I felt rather underwhelmed. Was it that reception staff never looked up when we came in and went out and always appeared solemn, was it the lack of a general bar area or garden area in which to relax and have a drink after a hard day's sight seeing. The breakfast was good, plenty to choose from depending on whether you like sweet or savoury, great pastries, coffee machine, juices, cakes, fresh fruit, tinned fruit, cereals, all the standard offerings. The absolute top thing about this hotel is the lady in charge of the breakfast area, the happiest cheeriest person in Venice. Her love and warm welcome went a long way every day. Collapse

We were originally booked into the 3* annex of this property (Can' Marinella) but on our arrival were told we were being upgraded to a room in the hotel itself. The room we were assigned was Room 500 which was spacious and clean. The bathroom was clearly a disabled bathroom which had a rather poor excuse for a wet room as the shower leaked all over the floor making it very dangerous. The room is also situated very closely to the kitchen and my wife was woken very early after our first night there. The following morning we asked to be moved due to the noise and issues with the bathroom and to the credit of the reception staff were told that we should pack our things so that the concierge could move our things to another room whilst we explored the city. Our next room was small but cosy and suited our needs well. The breakfast was perfectly fine but would have been nice to have a few more warm items on offer. All in all a pleasant stay, with helpful staff and in a handy location for all the major sights Venice has to offer. Collapse
