We stayed here for a long weekend and were really impressed by both the hotel and the location, on the Grand Canal. A 20 minute coach ride from Marco Polo airport (where the staff were excellent at organising onward travel) took us to the Piazzale Roma which is the main hub for arrivals into Venice. Santa Chiara Hotel is situated next to this area, which means that unlike so many tourists that we saw, you do not have to lug heavy suitcases across bridges, along alleyways and through the crowds to reach your hotel. We were met by the courteous staff who arranged a member of staff to take our cases up to the room. Parts of the hotel date back 500 years and so you get a real taste of authentic Venice but it has also been tastefully modernised. Our room had a view towards the Grand Canal, the bed was very comfortable, coffee & tea making facilities were free and there was also a mini bar with a selection of drinks at reasonable prices. The bathroom was stunning, a huge mirror with variable colours illuminating it, that could be controlled to suit. LED backlit mirrors, complimentary toiletries and a drench shower with hose attachment. There was a free safe for valuables too. Breakfast was served in a beautifully decorated dining room overlooking the Grand Canal. Choice of food was excellent and service top notch. We took the water bus from the nearby station, for only €20 each for unlimited travel for 24 hours. Try and visit the island of Burano where the brightly coloured houses are a joy to see. It only takes about 30 minutes and is well worth it. We walked all the way down the Grand Canal to St Mark's Square a couple of times during our stay. The best way to see visit is get lost along the maze of alleyways and canals. Santa Chiara Hotel comes highly recommended and we would definitely return here when we visit Venice again. Collapse
It was OK

Firstly the good points - The hotel is a great location, just next to the bus station so perfect for getting to and from the airport (there is a shuttle for €15 return). We were in a classic room therefore shipped off to the annex, however it’s not far away and perfectly fine. The room is nice and spacious, and kept very clean. The beds were comfortable and lots of comfy pillows provided (essential for me as I am pregnant!). There is a Vaporetto stop just outside the annex and water taxis, so good for getting to the main attractions of Venice, but it’s only a 25 minute walk to St Marks Square anyway. Less good stuff - I would not call it a 4* hotel, we found amenities basic. Breakfast was much too expensive therefore we picked up some food from the supermarket next door, there is also a reasonably priced coffee kiosk in the bus station which does croissants etc. There are some building works going on outside the annex. It means that during the day the room is very noisy, although of course we were out and about so it didn’t bother us, but it would also spoil any canal view rooms (not a problem for us because our view was a wall!). We also found that the air conditioning does not work. We tried to report this but found the hotel reluctant to help and when they did, they basically said it is what it is. We found the room very hot at night and if that’s truly how the air conditioning is then I dread to think how warm the room would be in the summer. The WiFi also did not work in the annex, so had to use my own data. As a side note, city tax is required to be in cash at the end of the stay. We had to rush to an ATM as we assumed we’d be able to pay by card! Overall it was an OK stay but if I came back to Venice I would look at other hotels. Collapse

I stayed here for 3 nights with my husband. Our room was lovely and had modern electric touches. Had a lovely view of the grand canal. We had mentioned we were staying for our 10 year anniversary so they upgraded us to the canal view and also gave us a complimentary bottle of prosecco. Our travel company were meant to email our hotel with our return pick up time the day prior to our departure. They had forgotten so I spoke to the concierge so was happy to sort it out. I found all staff friendly and courteous. Location is handy too, Venice is a place to walk and its only about 20 minutes to St Marks Square. If i come back to venice, i will stay here again. Collapse

The staff were very helpful by email before we even arrived here. We got the airport bus number 5 and it literally stops behind the hotel so no dragging of luggage over cobbles or getting more transport. Check in was easy and all ready for us. English speaking and super helpful staff make this a perfect choice. Very clean rooms - we were in room 306 overlooking the side canal. Very nice. The beds are SO comfortable. You set your own room temperature which helps. You have a coffee machine as well. Great sized bathroom. So clean and lovely. Breakfast was delicious sat looking over the Grand Canal. Bit slow on refilling pots and food but just ask and they are fine. Very convenient for the vaporettos, water taxis, buses and trains. You are in front of the bus station and across from the train station. It's a lovely and quiet area but in reach of absolutely everything. You even have some snack kiosks just across the road if you feel a midnight snack urge. Get a roll for around 3.50 euros! I can't rate this hotel highly enough and we have already promised ourselves a return visit and will be staying here for sure. Thank you. Collapse
