I picked this hotel for its location after getting off a cruise. It could not have been better. We stayed in the new section and the rooms where beautiful. The breakfast was great and the staff very nice. They even have a small bar on site which is nice when your tired of trying to navigate venice. Then the bus was waiting out the back door to take us to the airport. Loved it Collapse

I stayed in this hotel for one night while on a business trip to Venice. The hotel is located close to the train station and cruise terminal, so ideal for those on a brisk visit to Venice, less so if you want to be in the heart of the city as the main sights are really quite a walk away through Venice's labyrinthine streets. The reception is decorated in a kitsch faux classical Venetian style, which unsettled me a little, coupled with the utterly unwelcoming front desk staff and I feared the worst. However, interestingly the upper floors and rooms are modernly appointed very pleasantly (it seems like a recent refurbishment). The main issue I see is the proximity to the road access / car park / bus station in Venice meaning that the rooms in the rear of the hotel aren't the most quiet and those at the front, with Grand Canal views, aren't quiet either due to the tourists chattering outside (bear in mind the new bridge connecting to the station arches up to the level of the 3rd floor rooms so the noise doesn't dissipate with height). The lack of amenities, e.g. irons and such was a problem and the front desk were entirely unhelpful in dealing with it. Breakfast in the morning was really low quality, the usual buffet but standards went out the window and I found much inedible besides the inoffensive croissants and cereals. Check-out was a disaster, a lot of chaos between if there was pre-payment or not, machines not working, staff unclear on process etc. and during that they were just generally dismissive and rude. They tried to force me to pay the city tax in cash to avoid card charges, when I pointed out that hotels such as the Danieli, Metropol, etc. wouldn't offer such service I was reminded that they're more expensive and I shouldn't expect the same. That says a lot to me. Should I return to Venice for business or pleasure I wouldn't stay here, it's not exactly reasonably priced and there are so many other great hotels to have your custom. We took a cruise out of Venice to the Mediterranean. Found Santa Chiara after browsing through trip advisor. This was our third time staying. Our stay was fabulous. I booked directly with hotel with Alessandro,(forgive me if spelling is incorrect. It was a family trip with 4 adults and two children. We had 2 rooms with a view in main hotel. The gentleman at the front desk Lorenzo was very friendly and helpful. He made wonderful suggestions about places to get a bite to eat, churches nearby for Sunday mass, and trips to Murano. We did also meet Alessandro the day we checked in he made check in easy. We arrived early before check in time. So they took our luggage and we were free to walk around Venice and grab a bite to eat. The rooms were spotless. The location is perfect right across from the people mover to the cruise ship. The buses are in front of hotel. We took public bus to and from airport to get to hotel 8Euros each way. Public water taxi were also close by. We purchased a 3 day pass and traveled all around. We would walk out to our destinations and take public water bus back to Plaza Roma. We suggest rooms on higher floors to avoid some of the early morning noise when the city is waking up. The complimentary morning breakfast is perfect to get you started in the morning. The staff at the breakfast is friendly and is always making sure you have a cappuccino to sip. This is the third time we have stayed and will definatley be staying there again. Collapse

We stayed here for one night following a cruise that disembarked in Venice. It is not in the city's center, but it is relatively close to the cruise terminal and only a few minutes' walk from the train station (convenient if you plan to visit nearby towns from Venice for the day) and one block from the bus terminal (to get to Marco Polo Airport in Venice). We arrived there in the morning, so we did not expect our room to be ready. The porter stored our luggage for the day which allowed us to do other things. Our room was actually not in the main hotel building itself, but in a building about one block away, on the other side of the canal the hotel faces. (Per our reservation the room type we booked was "classic".) We liked this location very much for a few reasons. First, the gate you enter through to get to the building is unmarked, not screaming "tourists!". If you did not know this, it might look like a private residence or long-term apartment rental. Very discreet. Once you pass the gate from the street, you need a key to get in the building the room is located in. I like that extra security feature, as no hotel staff are on duty in this building. A second thing we liked about this location for a room at Santa Chiara is that it is just next to a COOP supermarket. As the room has a refrigerator, we were wanting to buy some yogurt and other food items to have for breakfast. It was great that we could just walk outside our building and take an immediate left to enter the COOP. And since the building was away from the street, our room was very quiet. The room itself was quite spacious and accommodated the four of us well. There was one queen sized bed for the adults, and two twins for the kids. The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom! This might have been a handicap access room. It was on the building's ground level. Also, the shower had no door or walls around it; just a small lip separating it from the rest of the bathroom to catch water. But the shower was very spacious, so there was no concern about water getting everywhere. Amenities were plentiful, with soap and shampoo nicely placed in a basket. Highly recommend this property for your visit to Venice. Can't beat the location! Collapse
