A wonderful setting; perfect views and the sunsets beautiful! Our room was lovely and cannot be faulted. Staff worked very hard and were friendly and made us feel welcome. My son loved the pools, especially the pirate ship pool! We loved the fact you didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve your loungers. Always available! Food Plenty of it in the buffet restaurant. However, always busy with people pushing. Kids choice was very limited... pizza, nuggets, fish fingers, spaghetti and chips! So use the adult selection. Desserts were limited. Cheeses was not varied enough. You have vouchers for 2 other restaurants... what a waste of space you have! Never full as people were in the buffet. Surely you should be using these differently? We personally could not stand the buffet after a few days due to the amount you are putting in there. The moonlight restaurant.... menu didn't change. Boring. Brazilian ... lovely but could you have themed nights here instead of it being purely Brazilian and therefore just meat! Towards our holiday coming to an end you introduced the hot plate... noodles. At last! For a 5* surely you should have more of these. Breakfast... have one for omelettes for example. Spa You get a free voucher but then have to pay 5 euros per person for a swimming cap... con! Entertainment The lobby where the entertainment was I far too small. Where do you sit to watch some of the acts? The music quiz... the same questions used... surely they should be alternated. We personally thought more money could be spent on the entertainment. Drinks The Gin Bar amazing... well done! After a walk we went to the lobby bar for a drink. The 7 up I asked for was soda water. After returning this twice the member of bar staff tasted it and agreed it wasn't 7 up. However this was poured from a 7 up bottle. The member of staff informed my husband that they refill the bottles from a machine on site and this was obviously filled up incorrectly. A 5* refilling bottles!!!??!? Salgados has the potential to be a 5* however restaurants need to be sorted! Collapse

Day 3 here at the Salgados Palace and going a little crazy over how bad the AC throughout the property is and in the bedrooms. Called reception this evening and the sent a grumpy service tech to our room that explained that the stats reading 31c where actually 5c out. He banged a few spanners in the access panels in the roof and said while leaving the room would be cold in 30 mins. Came back and little different here unfortunately if you like good AC and wifi then this is definitely not the hotel for you. 4 more days of misery before heading home. Collapse

We have just come back from a weeks holiday, and all in all we had a lovely time. Reception were extremely helpful and spoke very good English at check in. We booked a sea and pool view suite (room 522) which was very nicely done. All furniture was clean and in very good condition as was the decor. This room had 2 showers. Although lovely, it would have been nice to have 1 shower and 1 bath as trying to fit my 1 year old (who's petrified of showers) in the sink wasn't easy! Such a lovely view from the balconies over the pools and sea. Housekeeping was hit and miss. Some days were cleaner than others. I'm not sure I heard a vacuum once. Outside our door was dirt on the carpet that had been there all week. Midweek I came back to the room to find the door had not been shut properly by housekeeping and a towel card still left in the switch. This was very bad as anyone could have taken our belongings. Fortunately all was fine. The main buffet restaurant was lovely. All the staff very attentive. Loved to play with our children. The tables were cleared quickly and the food was replenished well. Our 1 year old has a severe milk allergy and will go into anaphylactic shock if he ingested any food containing milk. I was disappointed to see that no food labels had any allergy information whatsoever. I had to bother the maitred' every meal time to go through with me what was safe, and if I'm honest I was still worried. Surely it would not take long to put out this information. I've been to plenty of other hotels that do. 1 in 20 people have a food allergy and it's becoming more common. The food I had was nearly always very tasty. Not piping hot, but that's the general problem with buffets! It was a shame that their were no live stations. I was surprised about this for a 5*. The pools were very nice. My 4 year old enjoyed the pirate ship very much. All seemed nice and clean. Not very much here for the children to do out of water. Such a shame the children's play area in the village cannot be used. The hotel needs more than a climbing wall and mini golf. We went to the beach on Saturday. What a nightmare. The 30+ seated 'train' that usually takes guests to the beach was not running, not that their was a sign anywhere to say this, we had to ask. A rundown mini bus was a replacement. 8 seats! For the whole complex. Really?? In my opinion it was not safe. We were dropped off at the beach by the driver who did not wait for more passengers to get on like he was supposed too. The walk to the beach with 2 little ones was very long in the heat. We had no idea we had a 10min walk from the drop off point to get to the sea. No information provided. The beach was lovely but crowded being the weekend. We didn't stay long as I was so worried we'd not get on the minibus back to the hotel for ages if a likely queue started. There was no shade at the waiting point. My children could not wait in that heat for 30mins, so I had to sit on the floor using a car for shade! When the bus did arrive 14 people were waiting. We were fortunately first but people tried pushing in front. Without children! Unbelievable. I complained as soon as we arrived back at the hotel but all I got was a half bothered sorry nothing we can do. Didn't care one bit. Very very bad. This needs to be dealt with. It's dangerous. The drinks at the bars were very nice. Lots of choice. The milkshakes at the lobby bar near reception were amazing. Under staffed at times outside by the pool but they tried their best. I think this hotel is still finding it's feet and improvements still need to be made to get it up to a 5* standard. Hopefully management will take on board suggestions from reviews. Signage is poor at this hotel, as is information in the rooms. It's all a bit of a secret! Collapse

We have just come back from a fantastic holiday here at Salgados palace. Right from the word go we were really welcomed by 2 very helpful girls on reception, who explained where everything was and also told us where to get the train to the beach if we wanted but also on the little map they give you in your welcome pack, she drew the route on there for us to walk to the beach if we wished. Food was fab, there was a great choice in food plus some regulars like plain pasta and sauces for those who don't like to try the local dishes, we took our 2 children 8 and 4 and there was no issues with food for them! The staff in the buffet restaurant were lovely too. You had the choice to eat in the 19th hole restaurant for lunch and evening meal, we did eat in there on one occasion and it was a help yourself to salads and veg and then they bring all different meats to you, which was nice but as I'm not a massive meat eater we didn't go again. But you should give it ago! The moonlight restaurant has the most amazing view and we had a lovely meal up there, I did feel there wasn't a lot of choice for the kids but we managed it. There are 4 pools one with a pirate ship in which we went to once, as it was so cold! Not the hotels fault but it was a tad to cold for us! We tended to stay around the the other kids pool which was the shallowest of the three and was warmer, think the dark tiles helped keep the heat in ! We never once struggled for a sun bed in the morning even around 10am! Room was lovely my only criticism is the pillows are so uncomfortable but I didn't ask if there was any other style of pillow so we made do! When we arrived the sofa bed was made up to a double and knowing that my children couldn't sleep in the same bed I went to reception to ask if we could have another bed and they sorted the situation straight away! The lobby bar is where the evening entertainment is held, for the size of the hotel there isn't enough chairs for people sit this needs looking at even though we didn't struggle to get a seat! We definitely enjoyed our stay and had a relaxing time. Would we return... most definitely!! Ps zoo marine is defo worth a visit!! Collapse
