It depends what kind of holiday you go on... having no children and usually go on couples holidays to s/c places (so eat out in local restaurants), I've never done all inclusive. So yes food repetitive but we were all fed. Girlie weekend (all almost 40) so we just needed a place to lay our heads. Walking into Torremolinos wasn't an issue and we taxied back for €9 ...€3 each. Hotel was very clean, pool area very pleasant and not a myriad of screaming guests. Some of the staff were a bit miserable (I usually go to Greece and find their hospitality far superior) but I'm not surprised staff were miserable when the majority of the guests (older couples of varying nationalities) never cracked a smile. It wasn't so much the staff that made me feel miserable; the other clientele looked like they were on death row rather than holiday. So, for a cheeky 3 night break, no complaints from me. Use a bit of Spanish and the staff are ok. Self entitlement never receives a warm welcome. I'd return for a girlie or couples weekend but I couldn't see myself there for a 2 week break. However, my friend with 3 children said she'd be happy to bring her family there. Collapse
Does exactly what it says on the tin!

I visited the Royal Costa with enormous trepidation and in some ways I’m pleased I’d read the bad reviews as I had no great expectation. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! As many people have said the hotel is immaculately clean. I only stayed 3 nights but saw all communal areas being cleaned, pool being cleaned, gardens tidied up and of course the bedrooms were done every day. The bedrooms are tired it’s true but a decent size and perfectly serviceable. The air con wasn’t great - as it was early May it didn’t matter too much but I’m not sure it would be adequate in August. Location wise the hotel is not in Torremolinos - its 2 stops on the train and costs €1.80 each way. 2 stops from Malaga airport too at the same price and very easy to find your way round the train system. Easy to get to Benalmadena and Fuengerola too. Pool area was very nice - lots of loungers, lovely pool bar. I wasn’t aware of there being any pool towels available - I didn’t see any - but didn’t actually ask! The pool is very deep - 1.5m at the shallow end, 3m at the deep end but there was a little children’s pool too. I thought the food was fine - its not a huge hotel and the buffet style restaurant reflects that. We thought the choice was fine - on a par with other Costa del Sol hotels I’ve stayed at - none of them are brilliant in my opinion but this was perfectly acceptable - the 9 and 10 year olds managed to find things they liked which was amazing and little tubs of ice cream and pastries (including yum-yums!) were available all day. Breakfast was 730-1030, lunch 1230-330 and dinner 730-930. The bar was 11am-11pm. Alcohol wise on the AI - all local brands and again perfectly fine. You could help yourself to a bottle of wine with lunch and dinner which was great. I found the staff to be good too - they didn’t all speak brilliant English but better than my Spanish and personally I think that was more of the issue than friendliness. We spoke to one of the staff and asked about her hours and she was doing 12 hour days 6 days a week - she was very nice but if she had been grumpy I wouldn’t have blamed her! I agree with others that the hotel seems to cater to an older Spanish clientele - entertainment wasn’t brilliant but we quite enjoyed a bit of people watching and we made our own entertainment as we usually do! There was a party of school kids staying while we were there but again, it was fine - certainly didn’t bother us. I didn’t think the wi-fi was a bad price - €5 per day for two devices so the two kids got their wi-fi and we got some peace! There isn’t any wi-fi unless you pay for it - some sites suggested there was wi-fi in communal areas but that didn’t seem to be the case. All in all I would say this is a decent 3 star hotel and shouldn’t be compared to 4 or 5 star accommodation - for what I paid (£100 per night AI for 2 adults and 2 children) I think it was an absolute bargain and for the price I would definitely go back! My partner & I have just been for a 4 night stay at this hotel so I thought I’d take some time to write a review for all of you who are planning on staying here; Hotel - the hotel itself is immaculate. The rooms & restaurant are cleaned daily to a very high standard. Restaurant - there is quite a variety of different food on offer every day, however a lot of the food is quite cold in temperature even though kept under a hot plate. Staff - not the friendliest of staff I must say. Some do speak a great deal of English but don’t seem very happy throughout the day and no attempt to make you feel welcome. The most friendly staff member had to be the lad in charge of entertainment. Entertainment - absolutely ideal if you are over 60. The hotel is mainly for people of this age I would say as entertainment on offer is for this age group. Nothing at all for younger, so being 25 years old we had a rubbish evening. Location - very poor location. No where near torremolinos, took us 1 hour 20 minutes to walk into the town and we’re both young & fairly fit. There’s nothing around the hotel to do outside so most of the guests we spoke to were bored throughout their stay. There is a hospital just round the corner from the hotel so also gets quite busy / loud outside, especially at night time. Overall our stay was ok - the hotel being ideal, but the location & age bracket for the hotel being very poor. If your young & looking for something to do then please don’t visit this hotel, go to another place. However if your over 60 & like to waltz over an evening then this is the perfect place for you. This hotel is not up to the standards of Jet 2 and they know it ,the rep Daniel is like the scarlet pimpernel. Hard to find!! We were unceremoniously dumped in a torrential downpour 300 meters from the hotel and pointed in the right direction and told to walk we got drenchef. On arrival we had 3 power cuts. The bathroom is a health and safety hazard it contains an electric plug socket and a hairdryer. The dinning area is a health and hygiene disaster, bad practice, luke warm food ,rice , under cooked chicken , the guy cooking apparently does not speak any english, so if you have a food allergy ,or are vegetarian this is definitely not for you. We were fully inclusive the snack bar provided cold burgers on bread uncovered left on the pool bar in the sun for hours .This place would be closed down had it been inspected for star ratings in the UK. We booked this hotel for a quiet break, not knowing it doubles as a youth club ,teenage groups are constantly being accommodate . For three nights over a hundred teenagers taking part in a hand ball comp stayed some from USA and Spain they were in the pool after 11 at night Collapse

Most of the reception staff were poor and not interested. One refused to take my postcards for posting.Food below average and ate very little all week despite being on half board.Room was very small although clean.Bathroom needed updating and not even a toilet roll holder. No kettle.no fridge.Safe and wi fi very expensive extras. Entertainment boring after all the highlight was a game of bingo. Would never go back again. Collapse
