We stayed at the Kimpton for 1 night with 2 adults and 2 kids for a family event. We chose the hotel for its proximity to the event and relative pricing for the area, and mostly because they had a king room with a bunk bed. Pros: The hotel has a funky, fun, eclectic vibe. The room set up was about as good as I've seen for a family with younger kids (8 and 10). There was a very nice sized room with a king bed and then the bunk bed was in a curtained alcove with its own TV. Beds were very comfortable and the room was the end of the hall and, under normal circumstances (which these were not - see later in review), would have been very quiet. Kids alcove was also nice a dark-- good for sleep -- and there was a basket with a couple of treats for the kids. We were in Room 714 - I would ask for the room again if I stayed there. Overall, the room was a nice size, with a well-stocked mini-fridge and some shabby, but fun robes, for the adults and kids. Cons: Staffing was thin - there were two people at the desk but the manager is also the valet for cars and stuff. Pulling up in front of the hotel is tight and there is nowhere to park easily, so waiting to unload and get the valet was a bit stressful. It took more than 10 minutes since one guy was literally doing everything. The hotel was just a little too shabby - time for a little love. Restaurant was very lame - The location is not convenient for food, especially on weekends when a lot is closed, as it's more of a working area than touristy or residential, so better food would have been nice. With no parking nearby, the valet parking was key, but crazy expensive at over $50 with taxes per night. Also, they charge a mandatory "amenities" fee of about 26 bucks, and i'm not really sure what amenities they are talking about - there aren't really any. We were put on a floor with about the loudest, drunkest, most obnoxious, selfish bunch of bachelorettes imaginable. They were screaming in the hallway and blasting music. Our room phone didn't work so I called the desk more than 3 times asking them to request the other guests to keep it down (to which the manager/bellman/valet was told, "It's my day!") If they knew it was a bachelorette party, maybe don't put kids on that floor (or anyone else). They probably didn't know, and I get that they can't always control other guests (although this group probably should have been kicked out, honestly), but there is a point when you offer the guests who are inconvenienced something more than a "sorry, we told them." I think it's good customer service to apologize and offer something in return - frankly, it was bad enough we should have had a full refund, and I've never felt that way before at any hotel, but at least give a partial credit or a breakfast voucher, something to say I'm sorry that your stay sucked and our rude guests kept you and your kids awake. Oh - phones did not work. And the TV reception was not very good. Internet was free. Overall, I wish we'd just stayed at the Marriott a block away. Collapse
I lost my stuff in the hotel!

Service was good during my stay. But it was bad after I check out. I left my silky top in the closet. When I called back to check, the receptionist was not very patient. He said he would help me check and called back. He never called back. I called after three days, he said they cannot find it in the Lost and Found. But I left it in the closet. It's my favorite top and it is very important to me. When I confirmed with the receptionist again, he is very impatient. I expect the hotel to be trustworthy or at least makes an effort to provide a good service. I feel it's common for hotels to take care of the stuff customers left behind. This is the first time I came across when I actually called back they said they don't have my stuff. What should I do??? Collapse
Three-Stars, if that.

This hotel should not be ranked as "Four Stars". You are paying Four-star prices for a Three-star hotel. First of all, the water pressure in the building is terrible so when you take a shower it is as though you're bathing in a water fountain down at the local YMCA. Additionally, the connectivity and size of the television in the room was not to standard. Someone at the front desk gave our room, while we were in it, to another guest, who tried to open our door multiple times before I answered. The amenities were a joke; the bar closes at 10 P.M., room service stops at 10:30 P.M., and there isn't a pool. Other than that, it was simply just an okay place to stay. Three stars, at best. Reservation problems, billing overcharges, condescending manager

I reserved and paid for a room for 2 nights because I did not know when my party would be arriving. I called several times to explain that I did not know when my party would be arriving (because of weather conditions in the North East) but I wanted to be certain we had a room for 2 nights to allow for that. At 3:15 a.m. I received another call from the hotel and repeated to them that I had reserved the room for 2 nights so that we would have a room when we arrived. Upon arriving at 8:30 am on the following day, I was told that we would have to wait until 1:pm for the room I had reserved, but could be "upgraded" to their Rouge Suite if we wanted a room at that time (even though I had paid for the room reserved for the night before.) I had reserved a room with a bed and bunkbeds, the "Rouge Suite" is what I was charged for (for 2 nights) but it was no upgrade, right across from the elevator, which was busy and loud all night and the room was street side which also gave traffic noise and sirens blaring all night. Upon receiving the bill the following morning, there were charges for the "upgrade", charges for late check in (no, we had not checked in late) and extended check out (no, we did not use an extended check out), charges for a mini bar (which we had not used or opted for.) Trying to get a line by line explanation from the front desk "manager" was futile, she spent most of the time lecturing us... "let me give you some travel tips"..... and repeating what she claimed were company policies. She also told us that "all hotels operate like this", WRONG. (My friend and I are avid travelers and have stayed in various hotels all across the USA, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.) I had stayed at Kimpton hotels in Europe. They would have to pay me to stay at this hotel again. Collapse

I have not stayed at the Rouge in 10 years and the robes are not a luxurious as I remember (more like towels now), but the staff and the hotel are wonderful. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the entire staff was during our stay. Rooms are big and clean, love the beds and the overall uniqueness of the hotel. Collapse
