Not a lot of good I can say about the hotel. Not disabled friendly at all, travelled with a group who have disabilities and restricted mobility, we should have been on a floor with no stairs as they aren't manageable for the last we supported. We were put on the 6th floor accessible by a lift, but had stairs to get to the lift!! What was supposed to be a walk in shower, wouldn't open far enough to be able to get into it, and there was a big step to get into the shower!! Not exactly 'walk in'!! Room decor was tired and dirty, stained curtains and dirty carpets and there was mould in the shower and above the window. Asked at reception if we could change one of the rooms because it wasn't acceptable for the lady we were supporting. The manager was very accommodating and provided us with a newly refurbished room, next door to where she was originally, So I'm not quite sure why we weren't given that room to start!! Food was bland and like warm in the evenings. There's only so much carvery you can eat. The breakfast was lovely and very tasty. One member of property returned to her room one morning to find that there were work men there changing the windows and she couldn't gain access to her room! We were due to check out the next day! So surely they could have waited until we had checked out! Or at least asked her before as they had moved all of her belongings! On our departure day, just before check out time, we all went house the toilet before getting on the coach for our journey home, to be told the toilets were out of order and we had to wait 10 minutes, So we then held up the coach while we went to get the room key back and wait for the lift to go back up to the room to use the toilet!! All in all, not impressed with the hotel, it's tired and shabby, but it's obvious work is being done in the hotel. I really wasn't impressed with how un-disabled friendly it was. The area is lovely. There's a land train that stops outside that takes you around Torquay. There is a nice pub/restaurant just up the road called the Bull & Bush which we went to eat in and the international centre is brilliant for a swim which is within walking distance. Staff at the Riviera are more than accommodating and very friendly. Helped with every question and query we had and helped where they could. The entertainment was quite repetitive as they all done the same, even though the board outside says they are all different acts! and I personally found one of the acts quite rude towards some of the guests in the room. Certainly won't be back, Not until the hotel has been updated throughout at least! Collapse

I was surprised the place wasn't full at only £7.99, you can also have hot or cold dessert for £2.99, and the staff are so friendly and helpful right from Rhiana and Sonia on the front desk to Tom and Zoltan in the restaurant and not to forget Glen the chef. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Collapse

Stayed for one night in a family room (2+3) with D, B&B. Hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were very good overall. Check In was quick and straightforward too. Our room was three singles and a double bed which suited us fine. The room was a good size and it was clean, but it did look a bit tired as did some other parts of the hotel, though it seems the place is being updated but not sure how quickly. Minor issues: in a room of five people, there were only two mugs for tea/coffee. Also, the plastic un-tearable sachets of body wash are a bit old school now. Our Friday evening meal was a carvery/buffet/self service affair. The food was ok, no mushy veg or cold meat but we found some of it lacking in taste. Just make sure that you form one orderly queue and then peel off right or left once you get your choice of meat - the chef does like order and disregard of the system will result in a lecture. I would suggest the layout is the issue here, rather than our British ability to line up. On a personal note, I dont mind paying over £3.00 a pint for Carling, but actually its not a pint - its 500ml straight out of a can which they bring to the table. #hugeprofitmargin. Breakfast is a self serve, all you can eat affair and the range is entirely satisfactory. Cannot really fault that aspect at all. The most contentious issue in all of this is the requirement to pay for parking. Its £7 for 24hrs. I would love to know why some hotels do this. If I pay for accomodation which has a private car park on site, should I have to pay this extra charge ? Why not include it in the prices already. Overall, I paid less than the going rate for our one night stay and, honestly, I am not disappointed. I travel a lot with work and stay in various hotels across the UK and Ireland so I see all sorts. I may have raised a few points, but to be honest they are just me being picky. We enjoyed the stay and will certainly be back. Collapse
