Good points: reception & cafe staff, very polite and helpful. Outside of hotel plus reception and cafe very nicely presented. Bad points: rest of hotel was very tired, carpets are really dirty, the shower is a small triangle resembling a bat cave (no lights/extractor), and breakfast was dire and way below par that should be expected. Overall, I would not use this hotel again. Collapse

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in early May. I chose this hotel for a few reasons, centrally located, historic charm, price point, and I liked the overall vibe. I was very happy with our stay. The staff was very helpful, friendly, spoke pretty decent English and were quick to bring us extra pillows and a larger duvet when requested. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows are made of down material which is a little soft for my liking but, they were fine. The room was small, but that's normal for European standards. The bathroom was small, the shower was very small and the shower head felt like a waterfall crashing down on you! But, hey, it worked. And there was a large closet! Other things to consider about Iceland in general... we decided early on that we were going to rent a car and do our own tours... We are not group tour bus fans. Keep in mind this hotel does not have a designated parking area. You must park in a lot or find street parking. Luckily, we are used to city parking so that was not a problem. There is a lot next to the hotel, but it is small and fills up quickly. There was usually plenty of street parking but again, we rented a VW Polo and it was small and easy to park. You must pay to park from 10am-6pm,about $4 usd per hour, Sunday is free. You are able to stay overnight in the lots and streets. I am writing about this in this review because I could not find any of this information before our trip so I am hoping I am helping someone! We drove to the sights in Southern Iceland, Western Iceland, and the Golden Circle. By the time we got back to the hotel from our all day adventures it was almost 11pm but this time of year it was still pretty light out. I would recommend this hotel to those looking for a city-centered location, good price point, nice staff, close to tour bus pick-ups and cabs. Collapse

Rooms and food nice; great location BUT the staff was totally unhelpful in helping us get to the airport. First they said I should book a shuttle; I did, or thought I did. The next day - no shuttle had been booked. The staff was so unhelpful, no help in trying to figure it out, no offers to call a cab. They told us to go to the shuttle stop and the shuttle would pick us up for the airport. Bitterly cold; we waited and waited and then finally went to a tourist information kiosk and were told the shuttle did not stop there - unless it was booked! So we had to pull our luggage to the bus depot and then were able to get to the airport. The staff acted like they did not care and I guess they don't! Collapse

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas. Great location in the centre of Reykjavik. Due to city council restrictions buses can’t stop/pickup outside hotels anymore and instead you must use bus stops. Centrum is located just a minutes walk away from “bus stop 1” which is ideal as you’ll be using this stop a lot for all your tours and excursions. Our room was nice and spacious with plenty of storage space and a very comfortable bed. Our room rate came with the buffet breakfast which was very good. A nice selection of hot and cold dishes to start the day before going out on day trips. We also had our Christmas evening meal at the hotel as the majority of restaurants were closed on Christmas Day. Again this was a buffet service and was very nice. Unfortunately, we had a number of issues during our stay. Firstly, we came back one evening from a day trip to find our room had not been done by housekeeping. When we raised this with the receptionist she did not seem to care. Her response was that housekeeping had gone home and there was not much she can do. We could raise a complaint and get the housekeeper sacked (her exact words) if we wanted to. This really riled me and I requested to speak to the manager. Unsurprisingly they were not in and instead we were given their email to contact them (which ended up bouncing as the email on the business card they gave us had a typo!). In the mean time we requested another room which we were duly given. The fact that we were not offered this and had to request this sums up the level of service on offer. The following day, we were given a letter from the manager (does he/she actually exist?) who, as a gesture of goodwill, offered us 50% off our bill from the Christmas meal we had which we accepted. To end things off, when we checked out our final bill (we had prepaid our room) was much higher than we expected. After requesting an itemised bill we found that they had charged us for another occupants meal! Luckily it was on the same night as when we had our meal so it was quite clearly an error and the receptionist removed it without question. However, it was extremely poor that there are no controls in place to avoid this happening. It was a disappointing way to end our stay in an otherwise great hotel. Collapse

We stayed 2 nights, arriving at 9AM with major jet lag. Unlike most hotels they offered us a room right away so we could catch some sleep. It was a first floor handicap room but quiet and comfortable. The beds are super firm but they gave us an extra set of wonderful pillows which helped. Breakfast was quite good and convenient to not have to venture out in the cold. The front desk staff were outstanding, could not have been more attentive and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only negative is you have to pay to park but there is a lot across the street, and you wont need your car in town anyway! Collapse
