we travelled there as part of a luxury escape deal and were not disappointed. the room was smallish, but well appointed and the customers service was terrific- I even had a cake delivered to my room on my birthday!. The food in the restaurant was very good and the bar snacks also a high quality. We used the gym every day and had a wonderful time exploring the area. the 'navigator' at the front desk was very helpful as she directed us to a different location each day. I did find it disconcerting when there was a dog barking in the room next door and I would suggest the 'cooking lesson be retitled ' a kitchen experience' - we didn't really get to cook anything. that aside, if I had the chance to travel there again I would in a minute! my tips would be to make sure you have a car- the best places are reached via car, take some lovely wine from the supermarket to your room to drink on the balcony- just as nice and much cheaper and travel in the off season, it was so quiet and all the attractions were bereft of crowds. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Antonella with a great smile and a friendly attitude.. Maria at the reception was very nice, amiable professional and always ready to help. Maria we are very grateful. I was there with my wife and my 5year old boy we stayed there for seven days in room 115 and everyone made our stay very enjoyable. Everything at breakfast was fresh and delicious. Great choices of cheese. Great selection of wines for dinner. The views from the hotel are breathtaking. My son and myself we had many great moments at the swimming pool. The spa was great too/sauna/ steam room, divine. You will need a car to get there or around. Thank you to everyone who made our stay special. Peter Joana and Albert. Collapse

This was our first family trip to Italy ever. We had no idea what to expect, having only bid on this “package” at a client’s fundraising auction. It did not disappoint. Let me start out by saying that the staff is fantastic, everyone friendly, welcoming , and very helpful. Wait staff, front desk staff, bell staff, spa staff - no exceptions. This is a Marriott resort, so the Navigator (concierge) desk was all too happy to assist us with any travel plans we needed - joyfully. That’s rare. When we had problems navigating the TrenItalia website to get our train tickets to Rome for a day trip - no problem. They spent 20 minutes going thru it with me. When we made excursion plans for a guided tour of the Coliseum (Must do!) I needed to print out the ticket vouchers. I emailed them to the front desk, and by the time I got to the front desk to alert them, they had already printed them out and delivered to my room! Outstanding. The setting is beyond beautiful. The resort sits up on a hill overlooking a quaint Tuscany valley. I can see olive trees, vineyards, and snow capped peaks all from my balcony on the 2nd floor. We slept with the window open all night, and woke to the cheerful sounds of birds, and the occasional cow in the distance. There is a trail to the nearby village of Barga that is an adventure, but so worthwhile if you are physically up to the challenge. Steep, narrow, and so complicated that you MUST follow the pictorial directions precisely or you will get very lost like our teenage sons did, the hike takes about 1.5 hours and is gorgeous. You’re basically walking along terraced vineyards and thru peoples side yards to get to town. Mostly downhill all the way there, mostly uphill all the way home. My wife and I hiked it both ways - and sent the kids back to il Ciocco in a cab. Would’ve taken the trail twice if the weather had cooperated. We ate at L’Osteria di Turicchi e Negri (Separate review) and had our fill of food and wine - Tuscan home style - at a very reasonable price. Ricardo the owner was great as well! The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was modern and sleek - we liked it a lot. Spa area and service was lovely. Daniella was welcoming and accommodating to our requests for 5 massage appointments. The “relaxing area” at the spa is quiet and has half a dozen chaise lounges set facing a bank of windows overlooking the valley. My wife and I sat and relaxed, and read books and had tea as often as we could. Doesn’t get much more relaxing than that. The pool area is Turkish Spa style - meaning there are jetted massage ports in the pool, a steam room, a sauna, a “mood Shower” (cool lights and different colors and scent as you move thru it). Our entire family enjoyed this amenity as well! An amazing and filling breakfast greeted us every morning with hot tea, coffee, Espresso, hot foods, cold cuts, breads galore, fresh fruit, and parfait makings. Very important when you’re trying to fill up 3 teenagers! The only reason I could possibly rate this resort a 4 instead of a 5 probably isn’t fair... The food was good - don’t get me wrong. I just keep comparing it to the many local mom and pop restaurants and pizzerias we ate in where the food was out of this world. If you are looking for a quiet get a way in Tuscany, with fantastic service, then this is definitely a place for you! Collapse

The hotel is off the beaten path, you must have a car to visit and get around. If you don't have a car it will be extremely differcult. The local train station in 15 mins by car there are no taxis as it is a small town. Food was amazing including the fresh fruit cocktails, which, a little expensive compared to some of the local restaurants. The outdoor pool offered a welcome relief to the summer heat. However children could not swim in the pool during fixed times. The indoor pool was as warm as a bath and had a small sunbathing area which was always quite. The spa was expensive but worth a visit for some quite R&R. The staff where incredible attentive and helpful. When you check in as for a list of local resturants and activities. They will help book and advise based on your needs. Collapse
