Unbeatable service at the Renaissance Tuscany, I’m beyond words as this was the perfect way to relax before continuing with our trip. This resort is located in castelvecchio which is a small town deep in the mountains of Tuscany. Castelvecchio Pascoli is a small and stunning town which is very far from the commotion of big towns like Florence. We arrived at the Castelvecchio station from Florence and immediately we fell in love. The mountains side is super peaceful and a great place to relax and recuperate especially after two weeks of non stop travel. The Resort: upon arrival we knew this would be our favourite one so far. The hotel is impeccable and well kept. The rooms are big and have a huge balcony where you can get out on the terrace and marvel at the stunning views as you look down at towns below and the mountains. The hotel is at the very top of the mountains so it offers unbelievable views of the surrounding towns and mountain sides. The staff: is absolutely lovely, every single one of them made this trip enjoyable. The service: the rooms are always cleaned to perfection. The beds are huge and offer great comfort. You honestly feel like a princess at this resort. The bathrooms as advertised are made from marble and the shower is huge and so is the bathroom space. Of all our stays so far this has been the most spacious! We had breakfast daily and OMG the views at breakfast are stunning, overlooking the mountains and houses below. The food was beautiful and offered a great variety. Even had gluten-free for those who have these dietary needs. All in all the hotel has thought of every need to make anyone’s stay spectacular. There is a great bar and awesome services such as an indoor and outdoor pool. A gym which I never visited and sauna and steam room. This resort is huge and every area has been well thought out. I highly recommend staying to this resort you will not be disappointed. In fact I plan to revisit many times in the future. Perfect honeymoon destination! Collapse
Isolated property, but beautiful views, poor restaurant service

We stayed here for 7 nights - that's a bit much I think - 3 or 4 nights would have been plenty. We mistakenly thought by the name of the hotel that this would be a good hub for exploring the Tuscan countryside. Barga is cute little nearby town, but if you're a tourist most of what you'll want to visit is quite a bit (min. one hour) south of the property. You HAVE to have a car if you stay here. The nearest store or restaurant of any kind is a 15 minute drive down the mountain. The rooms here are very nice. Pay the extra to get a room with a balcony because the scenery is gorgeous. The property is a bit dated as others have said, but I think that adds to the charm of the overall experience. The food in the restaurant is very good, but the service is absolutely terrible. If you want to run an establishment for international tourists, you have to offer international service - not Italian service. We ate here three evenings - partly because the food is good, but partly because you return home in the late afternoon and you don't feel like making the effort to get back down into the town. So you make a reservation for 7:30, go down the entrance and wait in line because the host is out on the patio moving tables around. There's not a second host around to greet guests and seat them. After 10 minutes we're seated, but the host says "there's only one menu left - is that OK?" You wait a long time for any sort of greeting at your table, and then an otherwise really nice older guy comes by with a tablet to take your order. He's the only one that's authorized to take orders, so you better get it right the first time, and anticipate your need for any water or wine refills in advance. Asking one of the seasonal part time workers that's clearing tables for a second glass of wine will result in a blank stare. And ask for your check way in advance of actually needing it, because that takes 20 minutes too. Roberto at the front desk was really great at the front desk, and Alice the concierge was a huge help to us in using the house phone to make a collect call back to Chase Bank when our credit card was denied. Other workers again have very much of an Italian attitude (Maria?) Sometimes they are really helpful, but other times they don't want to be bothered and don't handle problems the same way that hotels with good employee training would. So would we come back? Maybe for a shorter stay. If the service could be better implemented - especially at the restaurant - this could easily have been a 5 star experience Collapse

We were recommended this hotel by family and friends who live in the local area as a perfect destination for our Mini Moon after getting married in the area. Upon arrival the reception staff were very welcoming and upgraded us to a suite room with a kind congratulations card and treats awaiting within our room. The room was very spacious, immaculately clean with a stunning view over the mountain ranges. We ate at the restaurant in the evening which was very nice and the buffet breakfast in the morning was superb and was always well stocked. The other nights of our stay we headed Into Barga that the reception team kindly arranged for us upon request. Having spent all of our time when visiting Italy over our years of travelling we have always stayed within local villages and this being the first time staying within an actual ‘resort’ so we were slightly shocked at the prices of things, a glass of wine for example over €8 and a pizza over €10 however the quality could not be questioned and is perhaps typical of a commercial resort, this is the only reason why I graded this review a 4 and not a 5. Overall it was a perfect stay for our particular occasion and would recommend it to those wanting a slice of tranquility when visiting the area. Collapse

So the area around this hotel is very pretty. The lobby smells of cigarette smoke. The property seems old, but our room was comfortable. On the first day there, we went to get a bite by the pool at 6:15 pm. The woman taking our order seemed put out and told us she wasn't open much longer, even though the sign said open until 7:00 pm. The service overall was not great; not many people spoke enough English to advise us on recommendations. They did recommend a local winery (15 minutes from the property) which was the highlight of our trip. I became very nervous while packing up because I saw a small, unrecognizable bug in my daughter's bed. Praying it is not a bed bug and that we did not bring anything with us to our next location! This is my second time staying here for a conference. Last time I was here was 8 years ago and the quality has gone down. The site is very secluded which is great if you want people to stay at the conference. It is about an hour walk to the closest city. They offer many tours to see some of the local sites but most of them are not worth the price. The worst part now is the restaurant. The food quality is horrible and there is not as much selection in the past. The worst part is that I and multiple other people at our conference got food poisoning from the food. I spent my last days here in the room to not be too far from the toilet. Make sure to avoid this place if you can! Collapse
