Disappointing stay in Paris - Avoid Room 404 and Floor 1

Pros: 1) Location! Great location for sightseeing in Paris. There are several metro stations nearby, and the hotel is located on a quiet street away from too much hustle and bustle. However, there are a dozen other hotels with the same great location. 2) Breakfast was very good, and restaurant staff were attentive and sweet. Cons: 1) We were put in a room (#404) that did not have working air conditioning. It was 80+ outside and our teeny tiny room was sweltering and stuffy. This led to two nights of no sleep and general misery. We asked the hotel to fix the AC and what we found upon return was a broken floor fan and still zero AC. See photo! 2) The shower in room #404 was also broken. There was little more than a trickle coming from the shower head. I cannot begin to tell you how frustrating this is when you've traveled so far, spent good money and this is what you get: an 80 degree room and a literal trickle from the shower. Again - we asked the hotel to address this after our first night, along with the broken AC, and it was not fixed. In fact, the hotel had zero communication with us regarding their attempt to "fix" the shower and AC. We were desperate for a decent nights sleep and a shower. My husband went to the manager and he changed our rooms without any trouble. My question is: if it was no big deal to move us to a room with working facilities, why didn't you do it on day one when we asked about the broken ac and shower?!? 3) We were moved to room #110 with working AC and shower (Thank God!), however, it was to a room on the first floor above the restaurant which blasts loud music well into the night. We struggled to sleep through the deep bass pulsating through our pillows until 12:30 - 1am. 4) Super thin walls: Doors slamming, toilets flushing, conversations from rooms above and beside, and sadly a neighbor with a very loud stomach virus... 5) At the end of a long day, we asked the front desk for a couple waters (which they gladly offered throughout our stay) and we were told no. We were told to get water from our mini bar and it would be complimentary. Well, we go to our room and find that our mini bar was minimally stocked. There was one bottle of Evian and before opening it, I knew it couldn't be gratis, so we called room service and no surprise they told us no, the bottle of water was not free, it was 9 euro. Glad we double checked. Why couldn't the girl just give us the two small bottles of water to begin with? Terrible. The Renaissance Paris Vendome had so many misses. The frustration and stress of the ac/shower situation put such a damper on our holiday. Moving rooms was no fun, and the loss of rest caused a lot of undue upset. I would never stay here again, and I would never recommend to family or friends. Collapse
Great location and service; but rooms are so small as to be cramped

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this hotel during our recent trip to Paris. The hotel, which has recently been renovated, is now relatively modern and the location of the hotel - which is within an easy walk to the Louvre, Orsay, Orangerie, Place Vendome, and other locations - is great. The staff at the hotel also went out of their way to take care of us. However, with all that said, the hotel is quite pricey and the rooms are extremely small (even for big city standards). Even though we only brought a couple of carry on suitcases and a backpack, we struggled just to get our suitcases out of the way and move around the room in a bit of comfort. Collapse
Terrific staff and great location.

We booked this hotel for our family of 4@ the Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel. I was excited about the hotel given it's proximity to all the attractions Paris has to offer. Overall, this is not a hotel that goes above and beyond. We did alert the hotel ahead of time that we were coming with the kids and that anything they could do to make their stay special would be greatly appreciated. We weren't expecting much -- but have always had a good response from other Marriott hotels when we let them know kids were coming. Upon arrival, after 3 PM the room was not read. We waited around for about an hour. Not a big deal but we had checked in online and the staff definitely knew we were coming. I am Gold Elite with Marriott so I was expecting the room to be ready. One thing that I really didn't like, despite being a Gold member upon check-in I was told that an upgrade was available BUT the hotel wanted an additional 320 EUR per night for the upgrade. In my experience with all other Marriott's if an upgrade is available, you are given the upgrade. Here the hotel seemed to be trying to sell it to me. We did decline the upgrade and stuck with our Junior Suite. However, it would have been really nice if the hotel had given us the upgrade as we were traveling with children and the extra space would have been really nice. I'd also say that in general, the information that the concierge provided us was either inaccurate or incomplete. Questions about things like the Museum Pass or the operating hours at Versailles were sometimes wrong which while not a big deal, was just a small thing that could have made the stay with kids a lot better. The daily service to the room was also lackluster. They did clean up and freshen towels, but in terms of replacing things like sap or coffee some days this just didn't happen. A small thing that could have just been a lot better. The breakfast was great. Granted it was also free because of our status with Marriott, I would have gladly paid for it. Fantastic all around with great service. And of course the location is amazing. Your really can't do much better. All in all the hotel was fine -- but given the other Marriott options I would not return or recommend. Not a place that went out of their way at all for us. I did not appreciate the attempt to charge us for an upgrade we should have received because it was available -- I'll be contacting Marriott directly about that. But a great breakfast and a great location. Collapse

Renaissance Vendome is a great boutique hotel providing relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is located on a quiet street just steps away from the main streets of Vendome and Rue St Honore district. As it is on the side street, there are no views from the hotel. However, I did not seem to miss those during my stay. The staff was great and helpful. Also the rooms were nice, clean and modern. The shower space was quite small, which was a bit disappointing. The Balagan Restaurant, which also served the breakfast, was truly amazing surprise. The menu was a mixture of Mediterranean and Middle East flavors and the place was super busy during dinner hours. Moreover, I have to say that they did serve one of the best hotel breakfasts in the world as it was quite unique. Collapse
