This was a one night stay to attend a concert at the nearby Sage. Just across the River Tyne from Newcastle it is a modern hotel, in a very convenient location, so with those plus points I was disappointed with a number of aspects for a brand-name hotel. A good portion of the car park, for which there is a £5 daily charge, is a bumpy (pot-holed really) gravel area. Once inside our pre-booked check-in consisted of a lot of questions, including our email address, which when I got home I found was used to thank me for enrolling in the hotel loyalty scheme – not something I recalled doing. Lifts to our room always seemed to be quickly available and were speedy. The bedroom itself was spacious, clean and modern. For so much space the bed was a standard double, with a mattress that dipped in the middle: comfy but compact. In the morning we discovered there was just one bath towel for us (as well as one hand towel), so drying after a shower was interesting. Biggest disappointment was at breakfast. When we went down at 9am several food items were either awaiting restocking, or were the last few. I appreciate there were 2 coaches on the car park, which may account for an earlier rush, but there were still guests to attend breakfast, so for us it was inconvenient (for a published £10+ price) to have to keep visiting the buffet area to try and make-up a decent breakfast. Unfortunately when tasted some of the items also failed to deliver. The hash browns tasted of oil, a couple of slices of bacon needed a concerted effort to cut and chew, the fruit juices defied their labels and there was a strange granola/yoghurt in a glass that neither of us could even describe. Overall I feel we have had better value-for-money at other hotels around Gateshead than this one. Collapse

The hotel has been done up very well its spacious bright & modern, The room we were allocated was on the first floor so had the option of using both the lift and stairs down to reception. The room itself was a nice enough room the main downside is the wooden floor its very noisy from the room above you we were awoken early due to the person wearing shoes and rolling the suitcase around the room, another downside is the doors slamming from other rooms which is a downside to most hotels this one included! We decided in the end to add on breakfast even though it was pricey it had a good selection of breakfast food which would suit everybody's needs it filled us up for our flight home. As we had primarily booked this hotel for attending a concert in the sage it was a good choice it's very handy to the concert hall however walking back late at night in the dark is eery we didn't hang about thankfully we knew our way back to the hotel as i wouldn't like to get lost along the way. On checking out the reception staff were really helpful with maps and directions to help us get back into newcastle city centre. All in all the ramada encore Gateshead is a nice hotel with super friendly staff but be prepared for noise coming from the wooden floors, i wouldn't choose this hotel if i wasn't attending an event at the sage.
