We stayed at the Ramada Apollo for two nights. The shuttle service was great from the airport. We arrived at check in and the receptionist was not friendly or helpful. She was very abrupt and acted like she could not be bothered. We booked a deluxe room with a city view. When she handed us the key (threw it at us) I asked twice whether it was a city view deluxe to which she shouted yes!! We got to our room to our surprise it was not a deluxe or city view. At this point my partner went down to explain and to ask whether we could pay for an upgrade. She then told him ‘tough, it is the only room available in the whole of the hotel. We went on the tram to the city centre which took around 15 minutes. We bought the tickets on the tram as nobody explained to us we can buy them inside the hotel. On our return we noticed the manager at reception, we asked him whether we was in a standard or deluxe room to which he said ‘the only difference in standard and deluxe rooms is what number floor the room is on’. He confirmed we was in a standard room and quickly upgraded us to a corner room with a city view. Great hotel once the room situation was sorted but customer service unfortunately let the hotel down. Really close to where I needed to be. Check in and check out fast. The first room I get had a cigarette smell, so the put me in a corner room ( upgrade I guess ) The room that I did finally get was a corner room, supposed to be more expensive . There is a sofa into the room , for two person and I cannot explain how can they leave the sofa tissue so dirty ! Look at the picture ! Disgusting stain , then moving on to the toilette, I notice a stain of what looks like blood ? I have not been able to upload another picture but note that the housekeeping also left some dirty towels and some of their stuff in the room. Keep in mind we are in Amsterdam , in a business hotel and into a superior corner room !?! This is crazy . Collapse

We stayed for 3 nights at the Ramada Apollo Amsterdam Centre. The free shuttle bus from outside the airport was very handy although we only just caught the last one at night. The reception staff were very polite and welcoming. The modern room was looking a bit tired with wallpaper peeling in places and there were a few chunks out of the walls. The lighting is more moody than functional and a bit dark sometimes for finding clothes in the somewhat inadequate wardrobe. The beds were comfortable however they were two singles pushed together with very mobile memory foam toppers. This is somewhat a distance away from the “double deluxe” room paid for. Tea and coffee facilities were satisfactory however this was not topped up as expected, indeed, the room wasn’t serviced the whole stay apart from when I actually asked for some more shower gel from a maid in the corridor. The incentive to not having your room serviced was a 5 Euro voucher to use in the overly expensive bar, which we saw no sign of! The shower worked well. The safe wasn’t usable even though we did ask reception for help with it but the worst thing about the room was the fact there is no opening window and the air conditioning didn’t work and after asking for it to be looked at while we were out there was no improvement and so the room was uncomfortable being a temperature of 24- 26 degrees C. Sleep was not restful. Reception didn’t let me know why it was broken OR when it would be fixed. The bar on the 17th floor was friendly if a bit expensive. 18 euros for a beer and a vodka!!!! The smoking room was small and had no ventilation so was incredibly smokey. Restaurant stopped serving food after 9 pm, not ideal! On the whole not a great hotel but I have stayed in worse, friendly staff in a quiet location 20-25 minutes on the tram from centre of Amsterdam (25 euros for a taxi if you miss the last tram at 12 midnight). Would I stay there again? NO Collapse

TRAM service from hotel to downtown $8 for 24 hr pass...easy..convenient..no probs. Room service was hit or miss..need towels, or whatever...you have to call twice..not very efficient. Rooms are modern...not a lot of closet space..but clean and satisfactory. 17th floor bar/restaurant was cool. For price, value was excellent. Collapse
