After having our wedding reception here a few years ago, I decided to book for a surprise family meal for my wife, total and utter waste of money, no staff I even had to go into the kitchen to ask for coffees to be brought out, no service on the bar easier to go behind and serve yourself. All in all a poor meal with poor service avoid like the plague !!! Collapse

Trying to contact this hotel via telephone took almost an hour, the telephone wasn't answered and I wish that I had given up before I eventually got through. I booked 1 room for 4 nights and 3 rooms for 1 night each. When I received the e-mail confirmation, they had repeated the 4 night booking and not booked one of the 1 night rooms. The 4 night room should have been a double but was confirmed as a twin. When I got in touch to try and sort it out, again it took 30 minutes before the phone was answered.I was assured that it was all sorted and so we arrived on the Sunday only to find that the room that should have been a Double room was a twin. Went to reception to complain, nobody on reception, after 20 minutes someone appeared but was not able to do anything because the housekeeping staff were not on duty. Went for a drink in the bar, no barman to be found, had to go to reception and they went and found a barman, so after 15 minutes, we eventually got a drink. At 23.20 on the first night, we were woken by a lot of noise outside our room, I got up and went to see what it was only to find two of the staff moving large pieces of furniture against our bedroom wall, apparently they were preparing a room for a conference the following morning. Breakfast on the first day, there was no bread for toast, had to go to reception to tell the receptionist who was also the breakfast waiter and judging by the length of time taken to produce breakfast, I think he might have been the chef as well. We were assured that our bed would be sorted and made into a double however when we returned later in the day, the basses were pushed together but not joined and the duvet was so small that it didn't reach the sides of the bed. When we complained again, we were offered another room upstairs, when we went to view it, it had the same duvet problem with the added luxury of a door which joined the room to a function room and we were told that the door could not be locked because there was a function on at the time. Needless to say we declined. The next room that we were offered was another twin, this room was freezing as the heating did not work although there was a small fan heater in the corner. We also declined this room and ended up back in our original room. we were assured that the duvet would be replaced the next day. The next day, breakfast was a farce, the waitress had not cleared any of the tables and we had to clear a table ourselves. 45 minutes before breakfast ended they had run out of Orange juice and fruit salad. I had to go to the bar to get a couple of glasses for our apple juice. Throughout the breakfast, the waitress came into the room and walked past all the tables without removing any of the dirty crockery. The Duvet was changed with one the same size but slightly thicker. I didn't bother to complain, but cancelled my 4th night as I had given up on this ridiculous catalogue of problems. One of our other rooms had no heating, we had to wait 10 minutes to find bar staff yet again. Our final breakfast experience was again bad with dirty tables with plates and cups not cleared away. On top of all these problems, we had badly stained bedding dirty sealant around the bath and dust and dirt all around the room. Clearly the management of this so called 4 star hotel have no idea how to run such an establishment, the staff are poorly trained and lacking in numbers, We had to wait another 20 minutes to check out as the receptionist was not where he should have been. I have photographs of the filth and the bedding fiasco which I will gladly produce should you want to see them. All in all a disgusting example more worthy of 4 clowns faces than 4 stars, This is just a sample of the issues, there were more but I am begining to give up the will to live. As we were visiting the area for my mothers funeral, we could have done without the problems encountered. We were at no stage given a proper apology or offered any compensation for the debacle that we encountered. Don't waste your money on this dump. Collapse

Just had a beautifully presented and absolutely delicious afternoon tea. Would definitely recommend this service. The building seems to have had a makeover too and is very tastefully decorated since my last visit.

Visited the hotel for Christmas Dinner on the 25th Of December. We were seated in the back end of the hotel, with some other people but not many. This was nice as we were able to have a talk with other guests! The food was lovely, mine and my partner's food was up to the standard that was expected of a four-star hotel and there was plenty of it. The bar staff seemed like they were unaware of how to make certain basic drinks, and seemed very young to be of working age on the bar. However, our waitress Charlotte was able to sort out everything out for us, and the other five tables at the same time, whilst having a laugh and a joke which is credited as she seemed young and it was Christmas Day. She notified us of other deals happening at the hotel at the start of the year and we have decided we will definitely be returning in the near future! Collapse
