I went to Bordeaux three days before my river boat trip to adjust to the time zone. The hotel was clean and I thought well priced. Not a luxury hotel, but very comfortable. There was a mini-frig which was great as most evenings I went to the Monoprix and bought some dinner items. Too tired to go out to dinner! The tram goes right by and there are transfers to trams going other directions only a few blocks down. It is only a few blocks walk to St. Catherine's for shopping (huge sales end of July to first of August) and even the waterfront is not far. I ended up never taking the tram. The weather was perfect for walking. I did not opt for the breakfast. It seemed expensive. I booked thru Hotels.com Collapse

First off we were told to park about half a mile away as the hotel is in a pedestrian precinct. I discovered there were closer car parks later and I was not happy as I had a lot of bags. We were in a room where the windows are from floor to knee level. I didn't really notice until later on in the night when my wife who has respiratory problems started panicking as we couldn't open them properly. This led to a general feeling of claustrophobia and as the room had triple glazing we realized that it was either a lot of noise or a feeling of being locked in. I have serious concerns about what would happen if a fire broke out. The drunkards, winos and party goers shouted and screamed outside till about 02.30- 04.00. The first refrigerated delivery trucks for McDonalds, Chez Paul and Galleries Lafayette arrived around 05.30. I know this is not the hotel's fault but BEWARE of this before booking. One lift wasn't working so there were queues to get up and down. We got a discount card for the car park which they told us to park in so it's obviously to their benefit and not to the customer's as you have to walk for ages in unpleasant conditions. The word Quality is definitely not the adjective I would use for this type of hotel. Book somewhere else as early as possible or else you are left with an option like this. Collapse

This hotel is situated in a small road off Rue St Catherine which is the main shopping street,a short distance from the Grand Hotel and Opera House and within easy reach of the Lac du Mirror. It has the best map of Bordeaux we found anywhere. The tourist office were not helpful when we contacted them from the UK - everything is on line . We bought an expensive map in the UK which is too big and detailed but the Quality Hotel has a pileof excellent maps on the front desk. The receptionists were charming and helpful with our leaving and collecting luggage We spent a night there on our arrival in Bordeaux and ourl ast night on our return. The first night we had a dark and gloomy room on the ground floor but a better one on our return. We went out for breakfast. There are so many places around with fresh orange and excellent grand cremes.. it worked well for us. Collapse

This hotel could not be more central to the main pedestrianised area in Bordeaux. Very easy to find and the staff on arrival were friendly and spoke excellent English (which was helpful as our French is terrible). Check-in was fast and we were quickly directed to our room (112) on the first floor. It's to the rear of the hotel so had no view from the window but it isn't a problem if you only want the room as a bed for the night. Floor space was more than we expected and the furnishings were as seen in the photos on the Internet. Everything in good condition and spotlessly clean. A good guide for cleanliness is to check the silicone sealant in the bathroom / toilets and it was all fresh. The shower room and toilet are separate which can be handy and complimentary toiletries are provided and a soap / shampoo dispenser is attached to the wall in the shower area. The beds we chose were singles and had been positioned together but with separate covers. Very comfortable and we enjoyed a good sleep. A coffee maker and 3 pods were in the room and re-stocked daily. There was also a fridge and a choice of tea bags etc. Breakfast was good and located in a small dining room on the first floor. Usual continental fare on offer along with bacon, sausage and scrambled egg from a small hotplate. Loads of fresh juice / fruit and hot coffees. The location of the hotel however is the best thing with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants all basically 50 metres from the entrance. Getting there from the airport was very easy and cheap by the local service bus number 1 which travels between airport and the railway station in Bordeaux. It can be very busy however but only costs Euro1.5 each way. A taxi will set you back about Euro45. The bus has screens to show the name of each stop and the stop closest to the hotel is called Gambetta. From there it is about a 10 minute walk. We loved staying here and think you would too. I was a bit sceptic about a Quality Hotel brand as it's not often associated with nice rooms and good service, but this hotel was exceptional! The service was absolutely top notch from the moment we stepped in the door. We arrived early and the staff went out of their way to clean our rooms first so we didn't have to wait too long. They were very knowledgeable about the area and guided us to the best wine store to buy our picnic and souvenir wines. 5+ star service! The hotel itself is located on a busy walk only street, but if you are driving there you can access the pedestrian area by pushing the button on the stations with a rectracable barrier. Note that there are separate ways to drive in and out of the district. The best way to figure out how to get out is to pay attention to the direction the yellow light is blinking. If it's blinking towards you it's a way out. If you can't see the blinking light on the pole it's probably blinking in the other direction and therefore an entrance only. The exits have a weight sensor so when you drive close enough the barrier will automatically lower itself. Nearest parking was a good five+ blocks away, but ask the reception and they'll guide you to the one they have a discount deal with. We stayed in a room on the fifth floor, room 514. The room had a rooftop view and a nice night view of a lit dome nearby. It was quiet even with the window open, other than an occasional loud person on the streets at night. There are several nice bars and restaurants right next door, including what seems to be the "main square" just a block away. Also an amazing spot for shopaholics since all the main stores are literally around the corner! Collapse
