The prestigious Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square (formerly The Roxburghe Hotel) is one of the most iconic hotels in Edinburgh and is located in the heart of the Georgian new town. The hotel is within walking distance of Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street and Holyrood Palace. Situated between George Street - the stylish home of the city’s top bars, restaurants and boutique shops - and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries, The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square is ideally placed for your Edinburgh short break.
Many of the Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square hotel’s luxurious bedrooms have views of Edinburgh Castle or Charlotte Square. All rooms have been individually redesigned to complement the unique Georgian architecture of The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square. Inspired by the ‘golden age of travel’, with touch points that include a collection of travel-related paintings and posters, wooden trunks, and antique mirrors. The new-look bedrooms combine wooden floors and leather upholstery with brand new beds and bedlinen, Smart TVs and quirky artwork.
The hotel's new restaurant, BABA, brought to you by the team behind Glasgow's award-winning Ox and Finch restaurant. This mezze, charcoal grill and cocktail bar is inspired by the flavours of the Levant. Early favourites on the menu include chuck-eye steak from the charcoal grill and chicken shawarma served with pitta and plenty of sauces, herbs and pickles.
At the heart of the hotel, The Garden is a spot where guests can sit back and relax, whatever the time of day or night.
This is where you’ll find breakfast being served till 10am (10.30am on weekends and bank holidays); afterwards, we switch to a light, all-day menu of salads, sandwiches and so forth, with a drinks menu that’s inspired by botanical infusions, spritzes and toddies.

So, my family and I checked in this hotel yesterday around 1:30 pm. We were given the keys to one room while the other room was being cleaned. We decided to go our for lunch while they prep our room. Took some pictures around the hotel since I was so impressed with the interior design and venue. So far great experience I came back with my mom around 6 pm to get the keys to our twin bed room. I spoke to one of the staff and informed him that we checked in already, but we were waiting for our room to get ready. Gave him the last name to our room and the other room shown in the booking. After a minute or so, he handed me the keys to a room on the 4th floor while we were promised to be accommodated on the same floor as our family. He informed that isn’t possible, though I explained that the other staff promised me. Well, I was exhausted already and not feeling well to discuss anything further. Thus, I took the key and headed upstairs. Got to the room, so happy! Finally, I can get some rest. Well, walking halfway through the room, I realized that there is someone else already in the room and this person is sleeping. What an embarrassment. I am so concerned, for this incident carries out two horrible concerns. First, the invasion of someone else’s privacy. Second, the threat to both our safety, as customers. I walked out of the room and closed the door behind me slowly while my thoughts are rushing. I was so embarrassed and petrified. What if someone else entered this room? What if it was my room? So, I went to the reception and explained what happened to one of the staff. She called the manager, whom didn’t seem concerned at all. I explained the whole story again to hear that the staff is people and he makes mistake. What a shame, I am not sure if that’s how they apologize here, but this was not a genuine apology. It was more like his reply what do you want me to do for you? I will just give you the keys and we are people. Never in my life I felt so ashamed as I was at that moment. Well, I am people to, and people get worried especially when their safety is being threatened. He gave me the right keys and well lets not talk about how professional he was with me as a customer and one of the people. It is not my first time at a kimptons hotel. I have stayed at another kimpton hotel as Los Angelos, and it was a delight. This time, it was a horrible experience that went from so impressed to embarrassed. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone I know, especially if they are concerned about their safety and privacy. What a shame. I really wish that the manager understands that “we” are people as well; the same way his staff makes mistakes, we get concerned and worried when it comes to our safety and privacy or anyone else. We have the right to get a genuine apology and to be heard. Our day as a family was ruined by this incident. I mean people make cities, don’t they? Those people need to feel safe and welcomed in order to become part of this city. Collapse

Its a hotel which is well equipped to handle all facilities and to add the lovely heated swimming pool. Collapse

As an IHG Platinum member, I booked two nights at the Kimpton Charlotte Square hotel using points for an anniversary celebration. I had high hopes for this hotel and chose it over the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, where we have enjoyed staying in the past. Big mistake. We were given a dark, tiny room on the 3rd floor with only a small sloping skylight and a bathroom that smelled like mildew (room 318). The room was uncomfortably hot as the air conditioning barely worked and we couldn't feel a breeze through the small window opening. It was a very depressing room and impacted our enjoyment of our trip. The checkin and checkout experience was perfunctory. We were never asked about our stay or told about the drink "social hour" that is usually a feature of Kimpton hotels. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Despite the wonderful location of the hotel, we will never stay here again. Collapse

This hotel is slap bang in the middle of the city, however, because Hotels are not Allowed to put up large signs, the names of the hotels are small brass plaques on the door, so arriving by car, it is not easy to find. However, once established, porterage and car valet service, was quick to respond. This sounds daft but this is a new hotel in an old building. Staff were extremely cheerful, helpful and willing to please. Breakfast was a bit chaotic but very busy and they did have a good system. Bedrooms were very modern as were the bathrooms. Only complaint the lighting in the bedroom was a bit dark for the wife to put make up on. It is not cheap staying here but It is Edinburgh. Collapse

A wonderful location, along with the beautiful room made this a special stay in Edinburgh. Loved the public spaces in the hotel and the room had lots of thoughtful touches. The staff were attentive and helpful. Lovely stay.
