Camber Sands Holiday Park - Park Resorts Where do I start! We had booked a weekend away as a surprise for my daughter’s 11th Birthday. As we was taking our dog (a very well-behaved Cockapoo) we always end getting a fairly basic caravan, which is fine and we understand that. However as it was my daughter’s birthday, I decided to ‘upgrade’ the caravan and was told this wasn’t a problem as they have some pet-friendly luxury upgrades available! Well if the caravan that we was given when we 1st arrived I really dread to think what the basic ones are like! It was dirty, with broken furniture, rusty radiators in the bathroom and looked really shabby! I went back to reception and complained and showed ‘Dan’ some of the pictures I had taken on my phone, he agreed it was really poor and agreed to move us – however the new caravan wouldn’t be ready for a couple of hours, which wasn’t a problem as thought we was going to be getting something considerably better. I was so wrong, arrived back at just after 4pm, and joined the queue of other unsuspecting holiday-makers looking forward to getting the keys to their caravan. Was given the keys, and eve Dad said that the park looks really bad at the moment due to all the rain and mud everywhere – hardly encouraging words as we left reception! The replacement caravan was hardly any better – very basic with tatty curtains falling off the pelmet, mouldy mattress in one of the bedroom. After already wasting half of our afternoon, I decided I couldn’t be bothered to go back and complain again, so unpacked our cases etc. About an hour later, pulled up right outside our caravan and was looking at the sticker with the number on – to our embarrassment and annoyance the caravan had been double-booked and they had also been given the keys to the caravan we was now staying in! On a positive the swimming pool is very good and my daughter enjoyed that – it’s just a shame they are not opening a bit later than 5pm! The park itself looks quite run-down and as you arrive into reception it was badly flooded due to the previous weeks rain. At other caravan parks we have been too, there has always been a concrete hardstanding next to the caravan to park your car – not at Camber Sands, which resulted in the area becoming very muddy and difficult to drive around as people were just parking on the road, outside their caravan rather than down the side! I think I’ll stick with going to Haven sites in future, as they seem to invest a bit more in their up-keep of their parks and also provide decent, clean caravans! Collapse

Just returned from a long weekend spent at the Camber Sands Holiday Park on a Sun Holiday. Having broken up our journey by staying in Bognor Regis overnight last Thursday (town looked tired with a lot of eastern Europeans) we arrived at 3.10 pm last Friday. Having been aware that the check-in time was 50 minutes later we were given a map etc but advised our caravan was still not ready and would have to call back at 4.00 pm. Having stayed at their other sister parks throughout the country we were not surprised we could not obtain our keys as the parks generally uphold a pedantic attitude when it comes to check-in times and stick to the rules! We visited a local pub called 'The Owl Inn' to pass the time away until returning to the site at 4.00 pm. Really nice pub some 20 minutes walk away with nice, friendly locals. Upon our return to the site, we were greeted by absolute chaos as obviously everyone was arriving at the same time with cars parked everywhere their owners could put them, which resulted in some near misses and frayed tempers, coupled with the fact there was a substantial flood by the main reception which meant you had to cross the road through very muddy water. Why on earth Parkdean has not learned by now to stagger the check-in process throughout their sites across the country is beyond me. The madness at check-in times could then be avoided? Having successfully checked-in after a 10 minute wait, my wife was given a free bottle of plonk as a thank you gift for our long standing custom - apparently this was given to everyone and not just us, so we could only assume everyone arriving at the site was a regular! Nevertheless, it was a nice gesture all the same and unusual as the other parks we have visited across the country have never acted likewise. On reaching our caravan on Willow Way we inspected the caravan immediately to ensure everything was in full working order - this was something we learned to do after a disasterous time at their sister camp in Borth, North Wales last year. Have to say our caravan was lovely, warm, clean and suited all our needs and was well worth the money we had paid beforehand. The one, major bad feature outside was the muddy conditions which resembled the Somme Battlefield!!!! The road outside was absolutely covered with mud, with huge sods of earth having been gouged out of areas between the caravans and on the verges. This made parking very difficult and resulted in several people having to don wellies to unload their cars. Our shoes were caked with mud after unloading our car. Surely the owners of the site could have provided more paved areas for parking or at least put chippings down? We also found that people just parked anywhere they could find a space and having returned to the site on Saturday evening after spending the day out, we found someone else had parked outside our caravan, with their own accomodation being some 30 yards away! Thus we had to park our car some 20 yards further up the road from ours! Not good enough and the parking problem is something which badly needs addressing by the site management. Obviously, they cannot be blamed if some idiots park their cars in the grassed areas between the caravans after wet weather, nevertheless more paved areas could be placed between the caravans to avoid these problems. Niggles apart, on the whole, we enjoyed our stay at this site Cannot comment on the facilities as we didn't obtain entertainment passes or buy any food and drink on site. Apart from Borth, North Wales last year which we would avoid at all costs, we have always found Parkdean sites be good and wouldn't hesitate to return at some future period. As far as the local area, Camber has a massive beach and probably the biggest we have ever visited. As we were lucky with the weather it was really nice to stroll along the beach and watch the sunsets as we walked down to a couple of pubs. The town itself is nothing out of the ordinary though. We visited Rye and Hastings for days out with the former being lovely, with olde worlde buildings and a great pub called 'The Memaid Inn' which we enjoyed. Collapse

We have stayed at other park resorts and similar parks to this in the past and know very well it’s not going to be 5 star and that you always need to make the most of these places but left feeling a little mixed and unsure if I would return again. First the positives and there are lots. The location is superb with the beach directly opposite and what an amazing beach it is! Our check in was also quick with friendly reception staff and a bottle of wine - nice touch. The Caravan was also excellent and spotlessly clean - very well equipped and everything in working order - had to turn heating down as to hot! The swimming pool was also good and clean. More suitable for younger children - ours are 13 and 10 and had enough after 30 mins but ok Bingo was also good fun. On the negative side was the cleanliness of the general site, the outside bar area was filthy with days old fag buts under the tables and tables full of uncollected glasses and plates. It could be such a nice area if given a little more TLC. It had rained but huge puddles and flooded area / roads didn’t add to the general image of the site - they can’t be blamed for weather but could fix the road at reception to avoid that flooding. The bars were ok but service slow and seemed to have too few staff working. A big negative for us was the lack of consideration shown by a family opposite who played loud music late into the early hours. Had to call security one night and resorted to ear plugs, which did the trick. I have read similar complaints in other reviews and feel the management of the park and security should do more to ensure noise curfews are followed. This park does seem to have a large number of customers who don’t really respect others. The show bar was ok - kids entertainment was good for little ones and the entertainment staff put in huge effort. Didn’t stay for later shows as area overwhelmed by young children. It’s only my opinion but some of these very young children are kept up very late to accommodate their parents desire to drink. Didn’t like adults being able to bring alcohol from show bar around the arcade areas. Arcade was usual affair but our kids enjoyed it and won lots of tickets. Didn’t eat at the park so cannot comment on this. Didn’t do any of the activities but those using them seemed to be having fun. Enjoyed our 4 days but really due to location and price of park makes it a great base to explore the area rather than the park itself. Trecco Bay a much superior park and spotless. I would recommend this park but not sure I would return. Collapse

Stayed Mon - Fri in a caravan. We read the reviews on here prior to going so were prepared for the mud and packed wellies. The site is very muddy but the weather isn't the parks fault! It's a shame that not every caravan has designated parking so bit of a trek loading and unloading the car. Caravan was basic and small but met our needs. Just right for two adults and two young children. It was advertised as sleeping six, which I think would be a squeeze. The swimming pools are lovely and clean with four smallish pools, and one flume as adults we found tame but my 6 year old thought was the best ever! It does get very busy with a queuing system so recommend being there for opening. When we left after 2 hours the queuing time to get in was 40 mins. Service in the bars can be slow. There is always a queue at the bar after bingo, so why two members of staff went to get ice at this time on one night is mind boggling. However, all staff were friendly. The entertainers were brilliant. We've done lots of these types of holidays and there is usually one who only wants to do the adult entertainment later and doesn't engage with the children. Not this year, the kids entertainment was amazing, all the gang were enthusiastic and tried to get everyone involved. The games were all pitched at the average age of the audience with lots of team games so there wasn't lots of sitting around watching 1 or 2 kids play a game on stage which we have seen at other parks. Slight paradox is to get a table near to the dance floor so you can keep an eye on young children, you have to get there before the bingo starts at 6pm. But young kids who can't sit quietly have to leave during bingo. You need two adults so 1 can take the young ones out whilst the other keeps the table. The beach is wonderful. Cross the road opposite the park and you are at the stoney beach. Walk 10 mins along and it's the beautiful sandy bit. We had lunch at the cafe there (there are two, we used the one with the German sausage stand) and that kept us going, nice food, reasonably priced. Perfect holiday for family with young children, would return. Collapse

Where to start caravan awful , dirty , mouldy food inbetween sofas , no heating or hot water. Had to share beds as the l8ving room mattress was covered in bugs and again mould food. There's no way this caravan has been cleaned for new people . Looks like it has been done in months esp mouldy food down sofas ECT. No heating children are now full of coughs and colds We arrived on Monday the 8th April reported this and nothing was done .With constant ringing . We went there thursday again to see what's going on they came out later that day . We are going home the next day ( Friday ) carpet runner all sticking up fixed Thursday . Leak in the bedroom wet carpet . This wasn't sorted! We booked 3 caravans in total and a lodge . The other 2 caravans no hot water or heating in one again rang and rang left vm on there "we will call u bk " nothing done till Thursday. Other caravan , curtains hanging off dirty dishes and cutlery . No apologies at any point or no rush. It took all 25 of us to go there on the Thursday for them to come out . Awful . We're going home today thank God but now have sick children. Having to take ur children to the pool to use there showers to wash is awful sometimes even waiting 45 mins to get in the pool just to do this. Food hour and half wait . Breakfast is faster. But portions are poor. Entertainment for children good , swimming pool clean , life guards everywhere . Wish could say we had a great holiday but we didn't. Huddling sharing beds because one had bugs and food on . And children getting ill with no heating or hot water is not on !! Collapse
