We had a great stay at the Polurrian. It was just a shame that Superbreak had not notified the Hotel of our stay, and they were not expecting us. This despite the fact that I had booked the room through Superbreak some weeks earlier. Luckily the hotel still had a room and it did have a seaview-but only a side one, rather than the front we had hoped for. However the staff there made up for the inefficiency of our booking not being sent on. Lucky they had space wasn't it! Hotel-warm, comfortable, enjoyable leisure facilities, lovely food, super gardens and ideal location. Collapse

As all the other reviews state, the location, scenery/views are amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially reception staff. This is an ideal holiday hotel if you have small children and/or dogs. We chose it because of the location and views. As a couple it is not the ideal hotel for a quiet holiday as the fantastic facilities for children take priority over everything else. We booked through Hotels.com using a work discount scheme. I assume this is why we were allocated one of the worst rooms in the hotel (room 107). This double ensuite room is situated next to a fire exit door and staircase down to the communal areas – the door bangs constantly as other guests make their way downstairs. The room is small (although bathroom spacious) and looks out over the car park and a brick wall. The bathroom walls have flaking paint and mould on the ceiling above the shower. The plumbing is also very noisy. As soon as we arrived we asked if we could move rooms, we didn’t mind paying extra for a better room, however the hotel was full. Sarah on reception was very helpful and said that we could upgrade rooms at the weekend. We were staying for 5 nights in total so had 3 in the grotty room and 2 in the upgraded room. One of the other reception staff said that room 107 is only let when the hotel is full as it’s not a nice room. What a difference a room change makes! After 3 nights of very little sleep due to banging doors, kids running up and down the corridor screeching, dogs barking and very noisy plumbing, we upgraded to an end of corridor room on the ground floor (809) with magnificent views over the garden and cliffs. The room was spacious and although the bathroom had some water stains on the walls at least it wasn’t mouldy. This end of the hotel was much quieter, although the plumbing noise from other guests using their bathrooms was still quite loud. The rooms don’t have air conditioning and only a couple of the windows open. To open the window fully in this room we had to push the bed over a bit, only to reveal various forgotten items behind the bed including baby pants and dummy. There are no black out blinds so light comes streaming in from about 5am (take an eye mask). There is very little mobile phone signal and only in some areas of the hotel. The landline phone in our room didn’t work (could not dial out). There is free Wi-Fi. All of the public areas are beautifully decorated and with comfy sofas and sea views. We only sat in these areas after 9pm when most of the kids were in bed. During the days they are family play/eating areas. The service in the restaurant is very slow (30 minute wait after ordering) and there is only one vegetarian option. Great menu if you like fish. We used the hotel as a base for exploring this beautiful area of Cornwall – the local beaches are much less crowded than the more popular tourist ones such as Kynance Cove. We spent as little time as possible in the hotel (just sleeping and breakfast) as the kids and dogs were too much for us. The upgraded room is usually £277 a night inc breakfast which would be a great deal if you have children under 16 who can stay for free in the same room on Z-beds. A really lovely location with excellent staff but too family/dog orientated for us. Collapse
Really chilled family hotel with incredible coast views

I stayed here on my own with my kids as my husband was away, and the hotel staff made it so easy. We liked the relaxed sofas, family snug with board games, very friendly young staff, indoor and outdoor pools and comfy beds

We loved the fantastic view and the friendly atmosphere. It is better suited for a family trip than for a romantic escape but we enjoyed it anyway as the location was absolutely ideal for long and beautiful walks along the coast.

We had a wonderful stay at the Polurrian Bay Hotel. It is a unique property and very well suited for families. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, large gardens (with scavenger hunts that our kids loved!), and great food. We have dietary restrictions and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is magnificent and the room we had worked very well for our family of 4 (kids ages 7 and 9). I would definitely recommend this hotel for families! Collapse

We stayed at this hotel in June. This is the 3rd hotel in this small chain that we have stayed at in the past year. The hotel is perched on the cliff and has fantastic views from many of its bedrooms and its Vista lounge. The food is exceptionally good. The staff are very attentive. We took our dog with us, which was no problem. The gardens are really well maintained and beautiful. Kids are very well catered for. Though i didn't use either swimming pool they seemed to be popular and the spa was small but well run. The only reason i have not given this hotel a 5* rating is that the room we had was at the top end price wise and we felt it was quite small and not well furnished (particularly only a small wardrobe and no chest of draws). The bathroom was quite basic. However i would say the large bed was very comfortable. Their other downfall has to be reception. They didn't speak to us for the whole of our stay apart from check in and check out. These hotels pride themselves on their friendly atmosphere and I'm afraid reception really let them down. On arrival we were pointed towards our room in quite a rude way. In all this is a good hotel but they need to pay more attention to detail. Collapse
