Housekeeping was both great and a miss. Clothes were folded. Water bottles were provided at turn down. But the room I was given, 1527, had a broken makeup mirror coming off the wall with exposed wires and a mildewy hand shower. Mentioning these items at check out and was only greeted with "we'll check these out and we're sorry." Hotel personnel was extremely friendly, especially the housekeeping staff and Tim in the bar as well as the front door staff. Elevators from entry lobby to hotel lobby seemed extremely slow and the touch system in the room, while great, resulted in a screen that stayed on all night near the door keeping the bedroom illuminated at night. Probably a strong #2 hotel. Close to the Chicago/State red line and Michigan Avenue shopping. Excellent housekeeping staff but they need to report room issues instead of just replacing the mirror back on the electrical box hanging half off. Also a bulb was out over the huge picture in my room. If I was not sold a deficient room (which should have been addressed during room inspection) this would be a solid 5 star hotel. Collapse

From the soaring spaces of the lobby to the smallest appointment in the guest rooms, everything is magnificent. It is a pleasure just to be there. Comfort and convenience: Perfect, noiseless climate control. Wonderful mattress. Quiet. Beautiful lighting, allowing a full range of dimming, and conveniently controlled by electronic touchpads located throughout the suite (including bedside). In-room printer/copier/fax. No need to hang out a do-not-disturb sign, as the electronic controls also allow guests to signal privacy or to request service. (Speaking of which) we were utterly wowed by the service. Bell hops/doormen, drivers, concierges (no less than two on duty at any time), housekeeping, waiters--every single member of the staff made us feel like VIPs. Need a lift to dinner? At your service! Hoping for a table at an impossible to book restaurant? No problem! We were greeted by name at every turn, and never once encountered anyone the least bit stuffy or frazzled. Nice touches included the fresh fruit platter in our rooms when we arrived; the personalized welcome message on the TVs; and the free shoe polishing service. Dining. In a city full or world-class restaurants, we planned to skip the in-house dining options, but that would have been a mistake. Breakfast and high tea in the Lobby restaurant were a total sensory delight: exceptionally well prepared food, beautiful surroundings/views, and (during afternoon tea and Sunday brunch) a violin-cello duo playing from the balcony overhead. We also tried the Bar one evening--nice atmosphere, great service, great food. Next time, we'll try the Shanghai Terrace, which is a jewel of a restaurant with a reputation for the finest Chinese cuisine in Chicago. Collapse

Another staycation for us. Last time was 2016 and we stayed at the Peninsula back then as well. This trip we were in a Grand Deluxe King room (1613) facing Michigan and Superior just southwest of the Water Tower. We have always liked the Peninsula room layouts where the bathroom and dressing area are down a hallway from the front entrance and the bedroom is in the back. This makes for a very quiet room. The cleanliness of the room and throughout the hotel was meticulous. One piece of advice. Rooms facing Michigan Avenue will get siren noise from ambulances going to the hospital nearby. The room and its furnishings made for a warm and comfortable setting. Lighting and other functions were all touchpad controlled and very easy to manage. The bed had some sort of angled cushion as part of the mattress which we could not figure out what the function was but for us, it put our heads on an angle which was a little uncomfortable. Given the Peninsula attention to detail, we're sure there was some function. We just didn't know. Room service was outstanding. We ordered dinner and two breakfasts. All three times food was very tasty and more than adequate in portion size. Went to the small bar in the lobby area. It was very comfortable and cozy. Of course, you expect a hotel of this caliber to have an outstanding staff and hotel did not disappoint. From the folks opening the car door at arrival to the the ones delivering room service, there was a warm yet efficient demeanor. Having stayed here in 2016, we can say the Peninsula has retained the outstanding quality and service we experienced before. Will we stay here for our next staycation? Absolutely. If you desire a hotel with contemporary elegance and first class service, the Peninsula will surely please. Collapse

We stayed here for one night during the Chinese New Year. Overall I was very impressed by the attentiveness of the staff and attention to details through my short stay. This was our first Peninsula experience and I’d say I now look forward to checking out the other hotels in their portfolio. This is one of the top hotels within its category and I certainly recommend staying here! Here comes the detailed reviews. The Pros: The housekeeping at this hotel is remarkable. From pre-filled ice bucket and nespresso machine to nicely folded clothes. This is by far the highest standard I’ve personally experience in North America and Europe. The hotel room is well decorated and design with user experience in mind. I really love the tablet from which you can control every aspect of the room from temperature to lighting. All the controls are conveniently located with an extensive charging port right in the night stand. There’s even a pull-out drink holder in the couch! Great in-room amenities: dental kits, media center, great selection of tea and coffee with an rainbow of sweetener selection. The cons: There’s no mobile app for the hotel. With all the high tech going on inside the hotel rooms, I’m a bit surprised about this. Not a big deal, but would be nice to be able to manage my bookings and set my preferences on my phone prior to my stay. The breakfast order was messed up. Only half the order was delivered and we had to wait 20 min for the other half to be prepared and delivered. This is a major hiccup for a hotel at this level. Mistakes happens and it’s understandable. The hotel did offer a kind gesture at checkout, which I appreciate. Our stay would have been perfect without this small incident. The steam room is kinda small and there is no sauna. So for those who are looking for such amenities this may not be your place. Some other recommendations to the hotel to make the experience even better: There’s no communication prior to my stay. Usually hotels reach out a couple days in advance to inquire about any requests or offer some tips regarding the upcoming stay. However I did not receive any from the Peninsula. It could be because I booked via Amex FHR, but again I have all my contact info attached to my reservation, so technically it should’ve be too hard to send a pre-arrival email. It’s a nice touch I would expect from a hotel at this level. Usually a small chocolate or treat is provided as part of turndown service. I might be spoiled but I always expect that’s the case. However it was not at peninsula. If you already filled the ice bucket, why don’t leave a couple bottles of water as well? By to guests are thirty when they get to the room after a long journey. Maybe some bath salts by the tub? That would be really lovely after a long day in the city. All of the above mentioned aren’t meant to be criticism. They are just my suggestions on how to make a even greater customer experience:) This one last piece, no hotel so far has gotten it right yet. It’s a tricky one. So when two guys check into a room, it really doesn’t make sense to turndown with “lady” slippers. That probably require great attention to details and communication between the front desk and housekeeping. But wouldn’t it be perfection if someone gets it right? Overall, great job Peninsula Chi! I will be back! Collapse
