This place was beautiful, but the staff were all less than accommodating. No one let me know about the $50 a night room fee that I would be getting back a week after my stay. And no one could sufficiently explain why when I asked upon booking the hotel months ago, why I was not forewarned, when I asked specifically about any nightly room fees. The rooms are also extremely small, and there were stains on the carpet, on the walls and the tiles had grime in them. Over all a cute place but due to less than friendly staff and small semi clean rooms, I could not give his place 5 stars. There also were far too many homeless people begging and being rude right outside the hotel for me to fully enjoy my days outside of the hotel. Needs improvements for sure Collapse

is why you would want to stay here." While sitting there, in one of the most stunning hotel lobby's in Chicago, you can almost see and hear the past revelers that have come and gone throughout the hotel's illustrious 143 year history. A lobby rich with heritage and architecture, it is one of the best places to grab a cocktail, have a seat and watch today's revelers pass through. Take your cocktail to one of the second floor balconies to truly soak in all that the lobby has to offer. As far as the room... some might find the room less than modern and even compact. But, my wife and I had upgraded to an Executive King room and found the accommodations just fine. This hotel is conveniently located in the Loop District, where you can walk to many attractions (Museums and Millennium Park), but you will have to take a car, or walk to River North for some finer restaurants and shops. Hope this was helpful Have Fun in Chicago... we did! Collapse

We stayed here for 4 nights in early February. This is an excellent hotel in great location. The staff from reception to bellboys are very friendly and great from getting directions from. We stayed on floor 23 which is the executive floor, AMAZING! Complimentary breakfast and late lunch. Excellent food and service. Big enough room with very comfortable bed and bathroom with bath and shower, complimentary toiletries. Overall a delightful stay Collapse
Would never stay here again!

Yes, it is a "historic" building. It is a huge hotel. It does have some really nice elements to it. Me and my girlfriend stayed here because she had a week long schooling at there convention halls at the hotel. The good- good location. Right across from art institute. Right next to all subways and trains. Easy to use public transportation from hotel. Gym was modern and nicely kept. The bad- walls are thin, can hear your neighbors. Found cockroaches down on ground floor. One of my girlfriends classmates had black mold on there rooms walls. Elevators are absolutely horrible (especially if there are lots of people moving in the hotel- was common to wait 15 mins to catch the elevator.) no wifi connection in numerous areas of the hotel ( including the conference areas where my girlfriends classes where, so they all had no choice but to use all there own data, which is terrible for a hotel to be hosting a week of schooling when you can't even provide adequate wifi.) we had a 30 min wait just to check in. Food provided for her class was very mediocre at best. Heard many complaints about the food at the restaurants within the hotel, so we stayed away based on all the other problems with the hotel. I've stayed at hostels that were better then this hotel, stay away! Collapse

I have stayed at this hotel at least a dozen times (both for work and because my children enjoy how "fancy" it is) and am a Hilton Diamond Elite member. I typically enjoy both this hotel and the service at most Hilton properties. I was at the Palmer House Feb 9-16 as part of a two week work trip. My first two days were good - fantastic room, nice service. Then the staff told me I had to check out of my room and move to a different room. They did not bring me the key, they didn't help, they just said check out and go to desk to check in again. Service at the desk was icy at best and borderline incompetent. From here the trip went downhill fast. Crappy room (xx201 - ice maker and elevator noise, very small), no towels for two days, didn't restock my coffee. Harassed by a drunk patron at The Lockwood - luckily the wait staff warned me he was coming over, but I'd prefer if they would prevent those situations in the first place - he should not have been served and the Lockwood was the only place in the hotel at that time of day to eat - poor form, Palmer House. I'm all around disappointed. I didn't get any followups from management on my concerns. Luckily my employer has added a few more hotels in the area as options. I did enjoy the spa services over my weekend there. I had a facial, massage and haircut. I would go back for the haircut and the massage and facial were nice on-site amenities. Collapse
