Returned this week from the Vistamar, which isn't a bad hotel, but in my opinion doesn't merit a 4 star status. The best feature is the swimming pool, which is lovely, and the surrounding terrace and pool bar were pleasant - although some sun umberellas are desperately in need of replacing (photo attached)! We didn't use the elite pool as the regular pool was so nice. We didn't think that food at either breakfast or dinner were very appealing, the fresh bread was nice and there seemed to be a good selection of salads, but we felt that the choice of main dishes was limited - other than paella one evening, there were very few traditional dishes on offer. We were disappointed by the breakfast selection, other than the fresh bread. The outside terrace where breakfast is served is a lovely space, but is spoilt by allowing people to smoke there - this is after all an eating area. The tables are quite close together, so I found it very unpleasant when on several ocassions, someone on the next table would light up whilst I was still eating. Porto Colom is a picturesque town and the hotel is in a good location - it's a short walk to a small number of bars and shops and on to the beach at Cala Marsal. The walk along the seafront to the harbour area, restaurants and old town is very nice. Overall, I wouldn't say that the Vistamar is a bad hotel, but I wouldn't rush to return. Collapse

Fabulous adult only hotel visited with my sister this summer for a week. We were blessed with great weather and really enjoyed it. We stayed half board so breakfast and evening meal; the breakfast wasn't served on the terrace and was fantastic - lots of items to choose from continental to full English and fresh fruit. This set is up for the day until afternoon snack at 3. You had to dress for dinner which I thought was nice and the choice was extremely good. The staff were really lovely and the hotel was split i.e. There was two different pool areas; the one by the breakfast terrace and dining room Was the Elite Pool and you could pay daily to enter for 10 Euros or go to the pool bar for free which has tennis courts next door and also a gym underneath (which I only discovered the day before we left!) The grounds were well kept and the pools were lovely. One niggle was that if you wanted a fridge in your room you had to pay 15 euros deposit and 10 euros to hire, the deposit was reimbursed. There were no tea coffee or iron in your room, though you could "borrow" an iron from reception for 1hour. Two beers and two cheers and sundries tomatoe paninis would cost about 22 euros at the pool Bar whereas in a little street bar it would cost about 10 euros. The hotel had entertainment on a couple of nights; flamenco dancers and a phil Collins tribute band - these were on for a couple of hours al you had the remainder of the night to do your own thing. Hotel and grounds were spotless, towels and beds were changed everyday that we were there and all in all it was a great 4* hotel service. One point we were allocated a 2nd floor room and we upgraded to 4th floor when we arrived which was supposed to be more spacious and with a sea view. The room was lovely and we overlooked the pool to the left and the port beyond so really pretty. I'd definitely go to this hotel again and would recommend for either a romantic holiday or withh your sister or friend. It is not the type of hotel a group of girls/boys would go and is quiet and more of a couples hotel but lots of lovely wake around and the port / harbour is 20 mins away. The local area is Spanish residential and a. Umbernof the bars were empty but a couple Of nice bars around especially Orange Colom which was quite special. (Last two pics) Collapse

This hotel is the definition of false advertisement in our opinion! We stayed here for 10 nights and by the end could not wait to catch the flight home. The staff When we arrived the gentleman on reception was extremely lovely and very very welcoming and we were happy to have arrived. However this was not the case for all of the staff, the bar manager John was the rudest of all and how he believes he is the best worker at this hotel is beyond me!!! On our second night, we were having a game of pool with some friends at the hotel bar, having just ordered a round of drinks, John switched the lights off and told us to drink up and leave as he wanted to go home now! If this abrupt rude approach to asking us to leave wasn't bad enough, he did this at 12pm when on the notice board it stated that the bar closed at 1:00am! We were on holiday and didn't expect this treatment! It's not like it was a all inclusive and the drinks were free, we were paying for these drinks!! Our room was very dated and not comfortable. When I say the beds are like sleeping on a bed of rocks I'm not exaggerating, I came home in agony, the pillows are funny shaped and the view wasn't great. The pool was ok, but i felt very uncomfortable due to the amount of touchy feeliness constantly going on by couple in the pool. You can't use any facilities advertised, i.e. The spa and beauty treatments! The mini golf and tennis facilities are in a shocking, in a un maintained condition. The hidden cost of the safe, 'elite pool' and fridge is a rip off and joke! Honestly if you are planning a trip to the lovely Porto colom don't stay here, we read bad reviews before hand and thought everyone has an opinion but listen!! I have been to many hotels and this really disappointed me. A four star I don't think so, more like a 2!! Do not waste your well earned money on this place, as your paying so much more than it's worth! Collapse

Returned to this lovely hotel after 4 years to discover it is just as perfect as last time. Many of the staff are still there and so helpful, especially John in the bars, and Maria Jesus and Francesca on reception. The outdoor breakfast terrace overlooking the sea is great and the breakfast buffet fantastic with masses of choice and wonderful fresh fruit platters. The dinner buffet has at least 6 choices of hot dishes plus an enormous salad bar and dessert bar. Paco the maitre d and his staff are very good. We needed this break to help recover after a family bereavement and it was perfect to sit around the pool which was warm and enjoy the peace. There is little to do in this resort but it's perfect for total relaxation with the little town about a 20 minute walk away and the beach 20 minutes the other way. It is adults only so the pool never gets too busy and Lilo's and rings not allowed so you can swim or just sit in the water without getting splashed. Collapse
