Visited Novotel Newcastle for 2 nights to attend training nearby. First impressions were good, well signposted off the main road, ample parking and exterior looked well kept. The lobby was clean and modern with little extras (free tea, coffee etc, computer, arrivals tv for Newcastle) - plenty of cosy seating and a bar (we arrived later). Staff on the front desk were very helpful - didn’t have two keys for our room but this was not a huge issue for us. The hallways felt a bit dark and dingy but lifts were available. Leisure facilities (pool) were a bit aged but non the less no major complaints. The bedroom was a nice size and again clean. It consisted of a double bed, sofa/sofa bed, tv, desk, wardrobe, fridge and a separate toilet to bathroom with a shower. We were at the back of the building and could look out on to the garden area which was very pretty with nice. We were disappointed to have to pay the ‘parking eye’ charges of £6 a night to park. I appreciate this is probably due to close proximity to the airport but I’m aware other hotels in this area provide permits and codes to exit barriers to avoid charging their customers which would obviously be a preference. Breakfast seemed a tad expensive too if for whatever reason you could not book before midnight you were charged extra. The choice however was good - pastry’s, cereals, breads, fruit, hot choices including pancakes/waffles and vegetarian options. Thank you for our stay! Collapse
Poor Sleep Quality & Inepty Duty Management

I found the beds very hard and the pillows more like bricks, resulting in poor sleep quality which was compounded further by the room air conditioning either not working or being totally ineffective. During our 3 night stay there was a coach load of families with a rugby team where many of their younger children were roaming aound in groups both in & out of rooms. Regretably duty management would not intervene to keep any disturbance down. On the final Sunday morning these kids took over the swimming pool / sauna totally unsupervised and not signed in. Again the receptionist called for the Duty Manager to review the situation - & yet again no one turned up to address the matter. This certainly questions the confidence that should an emergency arise the duty management are capable of dealing with it! I would not be at all happy that they are. On the positive side the houskeeping was responsive in providing some softer pillows / bed sheets and breakfasts were better than we expected. Collapse

The foyer is very welcoming and looks very modern but is not consistent with the rooms. We were in a room that did not look as if it had been cleaned as there was a weird patch in the middle of the room that looked like sand. It was cleaned up when we reported it to the desk. We were in a room with a wet room which leaked and the floor was soaked. They did have a pool but it wasn’t very big and once a couple of people were in it, it became over crowded. We have stayed in a Novotel before in glasgow and really liked it so we were sad to not have had an equal enjoyable experience at this location. The staff were friendly and helpful when we needed it. We were visiting family in Newcastle this week and we booked in for 2 nights. Not only was the price very reasonable , the hotel itself was nice too. Modernised in most areas , it is well maintained and the particular plus point is the excellent pool facility which our 4 year old son especially enjoyed! Our family room consisted of a lovely comfortable double bed and a sofa bed. Bath and shower facilities were absolutely great and appeared to be very new. Overall, a very friendly hotel in a great location and very well worth the money. Collapse
