Upon arrival as I was walking in to the hotel entrance I was disappointed straight away, the lighting made it look like I was walking in to a laser tag arena! Being visually impaired this lighting was awful. We took the elevator to the reception lobby where the lighting was still just as bad. It was dark with purple neon tube lighting on the walls. Check in was bad. We queued for a few minutes and when it was finally our turn, I'm not sure what the lady had a problem with on the computer but the queue to the left of us had 6 arrivals checked in by the time the lady finally asked for my details! When I told her my name she informed us the room I had booked was not available, I could have another room but not the Times Square view room I had booked. I could be moved there the next day though. I was really annoyed, I was only in New York for a few days, I'm disabled so I didn't want to get out my things one night just to pack it the next day just to get it out again just to pack it again! I wasn't happy, I had this trip booked for a year, my mum had paid for it for my 40th birthday gift. So I told the receptionist this and insisted I wanted the room that had been paid extra for, it wasn't like I could just return next week to get the room I had booked. I was tired and very annoyed. I just wanted to get to my room, I was at check in for some time. The receptionist gave me and my son a free complimentary drink at the bar for my birthday. When I finally got to my room, it was nice, the Times Square view was really nice. Tv was big & room was clean. Bathroom was very small though. But after reading the trip advisor reviews when I was choosing the hotel I was under the impression this hotel & the rooms were going to be amazing, I'm not sure what kind of rooms tripadvisor reviewers have stayed in before but this room was the standard room I'm used to. 2 beds, tv on the wall, a desk with a phone, a safe, a fridge. We've been to New York before and the hotel we stayed at last time cost less but we had 2 bathrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, a walk in closet and a room with 2 beds and I've been to Las Vegas where the rooms ARE amazing so to me this room was just standard. Luckily I took my own kettle and hairdryer. There is this box cabinet shelf above the safe at head height, twice I banged my head on it, it was an unnecessary piece of furniture. We went downstairs to grab a McDonald's, had a quick look in Duane Reade which are both under the hotel, we went back to the room as we were both tired and wanted to get an early night as we'd both been up since 4am UK time, it was now just before 8pm New York time. When we got back to our room someone had been in our room and left a note, macaroons and a bathrobe, none of which were addressed to me but someone else. So I just assumed they'd got the wrong room so I was in the bathroom putting on my pj's and I hear someone trying to get in my room! Luckily I had locked it so I shouted to my son who looked out and couldn't see anyone, 5 minutes later, someone tried again. I opened the door to a couple who had been checked in to our room! I explained we were allocated this room and that they should go back to reception. I was on edge most of the night then thinking I was going to be turfed out my room! I complained to the manager the next morning and I was offered a free breakfast which I declined. On the Wednesday the water supply to the whole hotel was interrupted by workmen outside the building bursting a pipe which wasn't the hotels fault but just added to the already crappy feeling I had from the check in experience. All in all I had an ok trip because that first night check in/people trying to get in my room business had put me in a bad mood for the rest of the week. It didn't help i couldn't get a good nights sleep, the pillows are lumpy and very uncomfortable.i just couldn't be bothered after that to go down to reception. We just went out very early every morning so we'd be too tired to notice when we went to bed! The best things about the room was the view, location and shower. Can't fault the location though, it was so close to everything. Travelled with my teenage son. Collapse

We stayed at the Novotel for four nights in February. My rating would be a five had we been explained to that our card would be debited as a guarantee for each room and refunded on checking, this took a chunk of our planned spending money down. Anyway, on the positives, the hotel is in a fantastic central location with views of Times Square. Hotel was clean, beds really comfy and staff really friendly and helpful. We were there when there was a problem with the water supply and had no water from the evening till early morning did not phase us and we felt the hotel did everything they could to apologise and sort ASAP. They also gave out bottles of water. So overall I would stay here again without a doubt. Collapse

We stayed three nights at the hotel. From the booking to the check out and actually leaving the hotel all employees were very friendly and helpful combined with a smile. Great! We had a modern room with two beds with view to the times square. Wow! The room was clean and quiet. Room size was for three, 2adults and 1teenage, well big enough. It had also place to unfold our two big suitcases. Location is next to Times Square, Rockefeller center, Radio City Hall, Wicked Musical etc. I would like to mention Angel, doormen, if you have any questions: where to go, organizing limo service to the airport etc. And of course I recommend this hotel.
