Plenty to do in Amsterdam

The trip was anything but boring as there is plenty to see and do. Although the hotel was further out of the city, the tram was easy to catch and it came regularly. The hotel was comfortable, clean and warm. It was also quiet. See more

We stayed in the Novotel Amsterdam city hotel for two nights; the hotel itself was very nice. Our room was clean, modern and spacious. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. On the downside the hotel was a fair way from the centre, however, it was a single tram ride (about 25 minutes) right into Dam Square. Take the number 4 tram towards Station Ria and get off at the last stop (Drentpark). The hotel is a less than 5 minute walk away. To get to the centre, take the number 4 towards Centraal Station. The hotel bar and restaurant was also very expensive, 22.50€ for breakfast, so we ate out for every meal. You also have to deposit 70 euros to cover any charges from the bar or restaurant. The remainder is returned to you when you check out, but this made us short of money on our second to last day. Overall we really enjoyed Amsterdam and we would return to this hotel. Collapse

The large Novotel Amsterdam City is in a business district on the southern periphery of Amsterdam. But it is close to the RAI Metro station and No 4 tram terminus, so access from the city centre comes free with a 24/48/72 hour City Card. The hotel is a short walk from the RAI Europa Hall exhibition centre. Admission was free to the Food Festival at the end of November. Then the hall is filled with smells and sounds of 70 trucks and trailers offering both familiar and unusual meals from around the world, plus beer tents with a choice of strong Dutch beer. We slept very well that night! St Nicholas's Eve was coming and we found Santa Claus and Zwarte Piet entertaining children in a department store. After dark, we took a canal cruise to see the displays of the 4th Amsterdam Light Festival. With high hopes, we continued on to the Christmas Fair on Rembrandtplein, but that was a cheap commercial event and a great disappointment. We visited both impressive exhibitions at the Hermitage Amsterdam, interrupted by lunch at the Neva restaurant. There was a long queue standing in the rain outside the Van Gogh Museum, so we slipped into the neighbouring Stedelijk Museum instead. Our last morning was still damp, so we opted for the shelter of the Tropics Museum, rather than the Botanic Gardens - both are to the south of the city centre and within a Metro/tram ride of the hotel. So we easily filled our days, and there is still plenty to tempt us back again. Collapse

I've been in Amsterdam for a conference and Novotel is very close to RAI. Overall it is a nice hotel but it confused me to some point. The room was not very nice and quite old. Same comment for the bathroom. the main issue is that you cannot understand if the room was clean or not but 99% looks clean. Also most of the TV channels were not working. On the other side, the lobby, the reception area, the area for the breakfast and the gym are very new and nice, and so are the people at the reception. The breakfast was very nice and with a big variety. Important tip: ask for an omelet. it is really fantastic! Overall, it looks like the hotel renovated recently the public areas but not the rooms. If you are attending show at RAI Center, good hotel. Facilities and room good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant food, breakfast and dinner above average. Dinner staff was a bit uncoordinated and person in charge was either absent or in need of same training as staff. Breakfast choices vast and staff were on their game. 15 minute walk to RAI. Line 4 tram 5 minute walk and takes you to City Center. Good hotel in a good loxation. Collapse

I really liked the hotel even though it was rather far away from the centre. You can easily and quickly get to the Schipnol airport from the RAI station which is a major plus. Also, there are nice districts within a walking distance, totally recommend visiting De Pjip where you can go with a tram or by feet. The staff was really friendly and rooms were spacious, clean and we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are modern and there is also a few stores were you can buy snacks - even though the prices were on the higher side. There is a minifridge in the rooms but there was nothing inside which I found is better since then you can store your own drinks etc. in there :). Collapse

Amazing service and clean location. The staff was helpful, courteous and pleasant. They upgraded our room due to our early check-in, despite the new year-long weekend. The hotel was located just outside the core of the city, making it easy to access the metro. Uber service was also available in the Netherlands. It was affordable and within budget. Plus points: Overnight room service, gym and bus shuttles are offered at this hotel. They even offered free dutch raisin buns for their guests! The room was big enough for 3 people, but the bathroom was small. The window was old school had a weird latch but still worked. TV service was available to but with limited choices, unless you understood Dutch. I love this hotel for their efforts to preserve the environment! I was really impressed on their policy to save energy and reusing towel service. The cleanliness of this location is remarkable. I enjoyed my stay here, every single minute. My go-to place, the next time I come down here. The hotel has a restaurant within. The restaurant is a bit expensive, but the food was worth it. The service also made it worth it too. But, on a side note, you really don't have a choice, there aren't much near the hotel, the hotel is situated in a commercial area just outside the city, near the highway. It is also about 20 minutes away from the airport. Collapse
