The location was great and very close to the train station. However, the rooms were very tiny and was difficult to utilize because there were limited outlets and storage space. The hotels common areas were beautiful but and the staff was friendly. The amenities were limited but it ensured we spent a majority of our time roaming Nice which was an amazing city. We were on our honeymoon so we were hoping for something a little more on the romantic side, but if you just need a place that comfortable to sleep at night this is perfect. Collapse

The location was good, within easy reach of the trams, busses and the train station. Quirky, this Hotel is, with interesting decor and fittings. But I will give a fair review based on our and two other couples experience at the Excelsior over a five night stay together. On the positive side, the staff were friendly, very helpful with lots of info from directions to guidance to some very nice restaurants. The rooms in all three cases were small with very little storage space. The wardrobes, we felt were inadequate for two people, perhaps ok for a couple of nights but not really adequate for five nights. But then unfortunately the quirkiness took over since there were no draws in the room because the bedside tables were adapted using the themed storage trunks (seen throughout the Hotel) with false draw fronts with an open desk ( with no draws) below the TV at the end of the bed, so nowhere to put all the small items. which stayed in the cases or piled up on the side tables The bed in our opinion was too big for the room. A super king size bed was far too big in the space we had, so much so we couldn't open the wardrobe door properly. The shower room was small but adequate with a very powerful shower. Our room was kept clean and tidy every day with fresh towels if required. However, our friends thought that a little more time could have been spent on cleaning their room. The breakfasts in our opinion were poor, at fifteen euros each per day we felt that there could have been some variety from day to day. This review may sound fastidious but having stayed in numerous Hotels over the years we felt that for a four star Hotel it was somewhat lacking and the interior designers did not apply enough logic to what a guest really expects in a Hotel room. So more storage space for future guests please. Collapse

This was our first visit to Nice I booked a two bedroom apartment at the Palais Saleya apartment and suites It is situated in the heart of the old town Just off the square Saleya Checking to not the hotel was smooth and the concierge was very helpful with tourist information on sites eateries and tours The apartment itself was fabulous for a family of 4 with two children It comprised of two double bedrooms Two bathrooms with separate wc A open plan living room with kitchenette which has modern amenities including a washer dryer a microwave a hob but no conventional oven fridge and dishwasher The only drawback to the room Was that one of the bedrooms and bathrooms (amazing large bath but no wc) was in the mezzanine which had a very low ceiling and if you are over 5feet yall you will constantly bump your head For my family this was not a problem as the small children slept in the mezzanine but anyone with teenagers may find this to be a problem Our room was facing the square and if you are a light sleeper you May find this a little noisy as the square is cleaned and the market stalls are set up early in the morning The hotel is also in the heart of the old city and next to bars and restaurants shops etc but for us we had no problems In fact we loved the location service and overall quality of our stay that we are considering returning this summer for another week In the morning there is a market in the square that sells old books and posters Across the square heading towards the promenade Anglais there is a daily fruit /food market full of local fare (absolutely fabulous ) and you can sit in a cafe watching the world go by sipping a cafe and enjoying croissant I would also recommend the “petit dejeuner” for brunch for its warm atmosphere and friendly service From our hotel everything is easily accessible You may chose a guided tour of Nice and plenty of information is available at the concierge If you wish to use public transport you can catch the bus 100 to Monaco from the harbour Or take the team/walk to Nice Ville train station to travel to Monaco or even to Italy for a day trip There are plenty of shops from Zara to Gallary Lafayette and many souvenir shops too as well as boutiques and shoe shops for everyone In all my family and I enjoyed our stay in the Palais Saleya and all that Nice has to offer The location quality and service of the hotel made this a wonderful experience I would highly recommend this place Enjoy !!! Really enjoyed my stay in this boutique hotel last October - I was getting very Grand Budapest Hotel vibes but with less pink! I liked the luggage themed decor, it was too cute! In terms of facilities, everything was as it should be - plug sockets in convenient locations and good water pressure in the shower. The hotel was conveniently located near the train station and so transport by both train and bus to and from the airport was easy to navigate. The hotel was a short walk to both the shopping area and the Promenade and beach. Collapse
