They do not offer upgrades to Elite members. They charge a $25.00 plus tax resort fee. You have the option to talk to the concierge to buy tickets to certain places and they will credit the $25.00. However, it is $25.00 per day and you will need to buy tickets each day. When I spoke to the man at the Concierge, he was very rude and unhelpful. The room that I was given was on the 15 floor. The windows let in all the noise. We could hear everything, especially at night, the wind, traffic moving, horns blowing, sirens, a dog barking across the street. It was like the window was opened. After two nights with almost no sleep, I asked for another room. The lady at the desk, said that she could move me to a room on the 7th floor by the elevators, and I would not hear the noise from the outside. She was right no noise from the outside, but there was a little noise from the elevator. Apparently the street noise is an issue in a lot of the rooms. The second room did have a little black mold between the shower and the toilet. The lounge is great. They have breakfast and dinner. If you are gold or platinum it is free. However, if you are not then you must pay for it. It is on the second floor next to the street. However, there is no street noise. I guess the windows are thicker in the lounge than in the rooms. It is old, but a beautiful hotel. The best thing about the entire hotel is the lounge. It is one of the best lounges I have ever visited. Collapse

I typically stay at this hotel 10-12 nights per month. It is very well located and close to the office, therefore has been my first choice. Of late however, a number of things have started bothering me about this place. The elevators for one are very slow and in the mornings (8am-9am) or evenings (5pm-6pm) it isn't uncommon to wait 8-10 mins to get one. The 2nd reason that I am downgrading a previous review (think I gave it 4 or 4.5 stars in that one) is that I've noticed that the rooms and particularly the washrooms, aren't clean to a level I'd expect for a hotel where on average I pay $350/night. A number of times now I've found it fairly dusty, the toilet not really cleaned from the outside and open packs of the q-tips that they put in the washrooms. That tells me that they're changing the sheets and vacuuming the place and then running through the rest of the cleaning. For all hotel stays I have always left tips for the service staff as they work hard in cleaning the rooms and don't get paid much (plus not too many people think of leaving tips for them)...but I have stopped leaving tips now at this Marriott. The people at the front desk though are really nice and that along with the location is the only reason I'm not giving the hotel 1 or 2 stars. Unfortunately, the owners am sure know that they can always fill enough rooms (it is NY after all) so they don't want to invest in upgrading the facilities including the elevators, which are functional, but not efficient. Sadly I'm going to have to look at alternatives and give my $5000/month business to another hotel. Collapse

At our friend's suggestion, we avoided the Time Square area and instead picked this hotel in midtown. The location is unbeatable - close to all the major attractions including the Grand Central Terminal yet not so crowded. The room we had was very spacious and we had nothing to complain about. The M Lounge provides hot breakfast daily which was really nice! It also serves desserts in late afternoon, and I believe some dinner. It rained during our stay, and I was hoping that the hotel would have umbrellas on loan, but they did not. Another thing that I'd like to mention is that, as a runner, I have set a goal for myself that I would run in every city I visit. So I always pack my running shoes with me on trips. It happens that the new general manager of the hotel, David, and the manager are also runners, and they are launching a Wednesday morning run with guests program. Really neat! I ran with David during the inaugural run for a 3 and half mile loop that included a segment along the East River. I would highly recommend this Marriott for visiting NYC. Collapse

The position of this Hotel is excellent for a touristic visit to New York, an old building but very tastefully maintained. Lovely photographs in the public areas and corridors. Reception Staff were most professional we had a double double room (2 double beds) and we asked for a quiet room. We were given a room on the ninth floor no view other than an internal well but meant we did not hear the traffic overnight. They overed an excellent service for a free check-in for your return flights, and the WIFI did not have a limit on the number of machines ...something that annoys me in other hotels when they limit you to 2 machines. Will be returning (I hope) Collapse
