After arriving and checking out our very comfortable room we enjoyed a swim sauna steam and jacuzzi. I had a manicure and then we got ready to eat in the Bridge Restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic ,so delicious and fancily presented.Yum!!!!! We retired to the open fire and had a bevvy and fell into our pit ready to sleep. After an early rise and hearty breakfast we set off to Crufts for the day . We usually do just a day but will definately use New Hall again . A thoroughly lovely setting ,shame we only had one night. My sister booked my husband and I a night at the New Hall Hotel for my 50th Birthday and it was a lovely surprise. We were warmly welcomed by Michelle on our arrival and our Executive room was ready early so we were able to settle in quickly. A phone call to our room to make sure everything was well was a lovely touch, as were the complementary chocolates and birthday card left for me. ‘Louise’, in the old part of the house has lovely views of the gardens and a wonderfully comfy king size bed with quality white linen and a cozy duvet. We enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours in the spa with its pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and had we been staying for longer I would definitely have booked a treatment or two. Dinner was included in our package and we were treated to canapés and champagne in the lounge before being seated in the dining room. Julian was our waiter and he looked after us impeccably, being friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. My husband ordered scallops to start and although expensive were amazing - the best he’d ever had. He chose steak for his main course which was perfectly cooked and served with a lovely bearnaise sauce. I had lamb pie which Julian explained was one of the chef’s specialities and it was excellent, alongside creamy mashed potatoes, vegetables and a rich gravy. Too full for desert Julian presented me with home made truffles on a plate iced with a chocolate ‘Happy Birthday’. After a peaceful night’s sleep we were spoilt for choice at breakfast, helping ourselves from the continental buffet before indulging in a ‘full English’. Pam and her team of waitresses were busy but nothing was too much trouble and when we’d eaten she treated me to a birthday muffin with a candle - another lovely touch. I can definitely recommend the New Hall Hotel & Spa for excellent service, wonderful food and the comfiest of beds. We would love to return! Collapse

Was kindly given a voucher for afternoon tea for two which I used the other day. Booking on line was staright forward and I did appreciate a 'reminder email' the day before. On arrival the reception was helpful and we found our way to the place for tea. Julian was on duty and nothing was too much trouble. Extra pots of tea, friendly and efficient. However I cannot say that I enjoyed the experience. The sandwiches were very cold and stuck together - straight from the fridge I expect. There was a mistake at first with only one 'set' of cakes coing out - a miscommunication with the kitchen - they thought it was a cream tea for one - quickly put right by Julian. The cake selection was interseting - the best being a mini eccles cake - warm! But somehow they failed to come up to expectations, I have had better - but I do not generally like afternoon tea and it will be a while before I repeat the experience. Collapse

I just couldn't find fault with this Hotel - service throughout was second to none, and the whole place just oozed charm, character & class. The Gym & Spa was also very well kept & maintained - I for one will definitely return here again.

We have stayed here twice before and had an amazing experience. The food was incredible and we were really looked after. However, not this time. Its good to see a busy hotel but when the car park is rammed with corporate bods it was hard to find somewhere to park. We were staying two nights in a normal room, room 30. Looked fine when we entered, made friends with Warwick the bear, and went straight off for a swim. Nice clean areas and clean towels, good swim and then back to our room to get ready for our dinner in the Bridge Restaurant. Seated at our table we looked at the menu. My heart fell. In the past this hotel has catered for me being vegan and hubby being dairy intolerant with no problems at all. The food was actually one of the main reasons for booking to come back. The menu had one vegan dish, one salad, and the soup. Thats not really a choice, so soup to start and the polenta for main...salad is not a meal especially in January! Its also not very exciting nor does it show any creativity. Hubby had the soup also and steak for main. Good job we ordered plenty of sides as the polenta was extremely dry, tasteless, and came with half a braised shallot and dots of onion jam. Sides were twice cooked chips, mange tout and peas, and carrots. No jus or sauce of any description was offered with mine, so it was an incredibly dry, boring meal. The veg was nice, but just plain steamed. Hubby enjoyed his steak but the sauce offered had dairy in so he had to decline and his meal was quite dry also. Dessert was pineapple carpaccio - thin slices of pineapple with a blob of mango sorbet. That was literally it, no pieces of fresh mint, nothing else. It seems that now the hotel is part of the Hand Picked chain, a lot of the individuality has gone from the hotel. The food before well thought out, and we felt extremely well looked after. The menu now is glorified pub grub, but paying a premium. It wouldnt surprise me if the candidates from the corporate stuff were paying less than we did. The bedroom ceiling was covered in cobwebs, not just one or two. The quilt had a large hole in it at the top. The worst thing was the radiator. The first night was freezing outside so we kept it turned up. It made such a racket all night that the second night we had to turn it down. No point going to reception, the hotel was clearly fully booked so we couldnt have changed room. The following night we were glad to be going out for dinner, where the portions were larger, and the food was tasty and edible! There seems no point in making sure food allergies or choices are pointed out when booking, not once did the staff have any clue. Breakfast the first morning was pretty bland. Telling the nice lady i was vegan she went to write a list from chef of what i could have... she came back with two plates of food a few minutes later (?!) ... hubbys was fine, but mine was a large mushroom, half a tomato, and three felafel balls on watery wilted spinach. I have to say that was weird for a breakfast, and frankly nasty. With the food being the main draw to this hotel, this time it has severely disappointed. Considering the price we have eaten better and in a cleaner room for far less than the price we paid. Its a shame when a hotel gets taken over and standards drop. The feeling you get now is that this hotel is aiming at the corporate market. Thats great if you want it full, but dont expect private guests to feel as looked after in the same environment. It means busier corridors with louder people, and there was loud music on until fairly late which we hadnt experienced before. Definitely not the quiet break that made you feel a million dollars. We wont be coming back again, and I will be staying away from anything owned by Handpicked. You may have gained more guests, but the individuality you lost is irreplaceable. Collapse

This hotel is in a beautiful setting with a moat round it. There was attention to detail before we arrived - phone call to check information week before - right through our stay. There was a warm professional welcome at reception. To call once we were in the room to check everything ok was also a nice touch. I requested a quiet room and it was we never heard a thing. It was a comfy large bed in executive room, and plenty of space in the room. The evening meal was good I had the Christmas menu. Breakfast cooked to order. We would definitely return. Collapse
