To pastiche Shakespeare, what poetry my Muse brings forth! My stay in NYC, this time, brought me to this little gem in the heart of Times Square! Time Square is crowded and noisy but walking into the Kimpton Muse is like the first soothing touch of Autumn. The lobby's natural colors and design give off a calming vibe the minute you walk through the front door. The staff were courteous and helpful. A nice touch was the friendly smile and the greeting "Welcome back" each time I returned from the sensory overload lurking outside in The City. For a "budget" stay, this boutique hotel offers a luxury experience. My room was very clean and comfortable with the rain shower purely sumptuous and I loved it! The bed was a roomy luxurious king, like sleeping on a cloud. The stocked mini bar was pricey but as a Kimpton Karma member I received a $15 rewards card which allowed a tired traveler a pick-me-up snack before hitting the mean streets again. Karma is free so sign up and Kimpton hotels have risen to the top of my list, so well worth the few minutes it takes online! I asked for a quiet, mid-level room with a view and they nailed it. This is Times Square so a view is sometimes a compromise, a brick wall or a rooftop. My airy view actually featured bits of some of the surrounding designer buildings normally seen individually from the ground if you crane your neck just right. The 8th floor room was exceptionally quiet, like a little oasis in the sea of chaos that is NYC. My first priority in any lodgings is cleanliness, comfort and sympathetic staff. Not much to ask in exchange for my hard-earned dollars. Kimpton Muse has it in spades, high marks all around. If I absolutely had to find some cons I would be hard-pressed to do so, but...I couldn't get my room's phone to work when I needed some extra towels. A quick rundown to the front desk sorted both issues. I cannot stress enough how much weary travelers need that little extra something and will pay a few dollars more for it. The Muse fits the bill quite nicely! "Some soothe the laborer’s weary toil For humble gains, And make his cottage-scenes beguile His cares and pains." ~ Robert Burns Collapse

We were very impressed with this hotel...we knew the location was great and that's why we booked but what was truly fantastic was the service. The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were incredibly gracious, welcoming and helpful. They printed subway directions for us and gave great suggestions for restaurants. The management was willing to honour a breakfast discount that our travel companions received but we had not. Rooms were cleaned well and in a timely manner. We are already looking into booking our next vacation stay with the Kimpton Chain. Collapse

Once again our Kimpton stay was as excellent as we've come to expect from the chain. My husband and I were in NY for a getaway weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We were surprised to find a complementary bottle of Prosecco and sweet treats in our room in our arrival with a hand-written note congratulating us on our anniversary. Our room was clean and comfortable. Very good sized for a room so close to Times Square. The staff was helpful and quick to offer refreshments during their complementary happy hour and again in the morning at their free coffee bar. As a rule we love our stays at Kimpton hotels and Muse was no exception. Thank you! Collapse

The Kimpton Muse is a lovely boutique hotel located steps from Times Square. The customer service was exceptional during our stay with incredibly friendly staff who always went out of their way to greet us and ask if everything was going well during our stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. We had a room with 2 queen beds the first night and added a king room the second night. Both rooms are very similar in decor, although the 2 queen room has considerably more space and would be appropriate for 2 or more guests. The hotel has a complimentary wine hour in the evening which is a nice little touch and convenient as you're either coming in from a day of touring or before you are heading out for dinner in the city. One thing to be aware of is that the air conditioning is quite loud in the rooms . We had 2 rooms and in both rooms the air conditioning was loud when operating. For the most part it wasn't a problem except in our king room it was exceptionally noisy. We chose not to report it as we did not want maintenance to come in the middle of the night so waited to report the next morning. I am sure it would have been addressed had we called in the middle of the night as their service really is outstanding. Despite this the hotel is lovely and I would not hesitate to stay there again. A little noisy but as expected from Manhattan. Upon arrival a very nice lady at reception offered us to change in the bathrooms then she would take our luggage until it was time for check in. She was very nice, however other staff there were not pleasant at all. One woman even looked like she had a very bad attitude. She kept rolling her eyes when people were talking to her. The hotel itself wasn't too bad, they offer free coffee in the morning and has a wine happy hour around 5pm. The room we were given was supposed to be a quiet room, as we had requested, however it had blood stains on the sheets. My husband called reception and the nice lady offered us another room immediately. I think if it were anyone else, they would have just left us there. The bathroom was clean and toiletries were updated on a daily basis. Unfortunately the room was on the fourth floor and was very noisy. The air conditioning and heating wasn't working properly and the windows seems to never be fully closed. The room was always too cold. My husband requested a blanket. Our card wouldn't work one day and we had to wait for the manager to come up and check. He repeatedly asked me did you do anything with the card wen though we assured him that we hadn't done anything. It's almost like he didn't believe that it was our room. He kept asking which room are you staying in? After 5 attempts he asked where we had been that day, which we replied a trip to Statue of Liberty. He then told us that the key doesn't work if we go through the security scanners there. Our key was replaced. The next day however, we experienced the same thing, this time we were told it is the scanners in the shops, and to not keep our cards close to our mobiles. Perhaps a warning of this before hand would have helpful. I don't think this hotel is 4 or 5 stars. I think an upgraded 3 is an adequate description. The location is second to none, right in the heart of Times Square, which can be a good and bad thing at the same time. Great for touring and travelling around, seeing shows etc but bad for noise. Sadly had better expectations of this hotel. It was our anniversary trip and we didn't even receive an acknowledgement. Collapse
